Also our little country of Germany has free healthcare for everyone. It's just simple morals: If people get sick and cannot afford treatment, I don't want them to die miserably in a gutter. We also basically have free school- and university-access. If your you are capable of getting a degree but your parents cannot pay for it, why should your carreer be ruined? Why should someone less qualified get the degree, only because he has rich parents? This is bad for the individuals AND bad for the companies. These are just things that everyone needs to have access to, so funding them with tax-money improves the country as a whole.
