Analog horror is not the only genre of horror that has become overused and oversaturated. Times change, and before you know it, analog horror may become popular once again.
I wish we had podcast stuff mentioned. While they are less like most. But they are incredibly interesting with their lore and monsters. I highly recommend Magnus archives, and old gods of Appalachia. And Welcome to nightvale but that’s more surreal and odd.
I think having horror for kids is fine. Kids love to be scared because of the thrill of it and such. Horror for kids have always been a thing and kids have always watch horror so in a way nothing has change that much. But going from VHS and DvDs to videos on the internet. As long as its done well and as long as its fun then there is no big issue I guess? Also its important to make things for yourself at times its not like your making it for a company or anything like that.
This was a great video but i did just want to point out that ddlc was not intentionally directed at kids and doesnt fit the "fnaf formula". its also not "possessed and out to kill you" the ai becomes self aware and starts killing the other girls so she can be with you alone. again, loved the video, this just really bothered me lol
Hi! I have a couple critiques and a couple compliments on this essay, if you don’t mind! I very much love writing essays and, as school has told me, good at it! (I don’t mean to seem rude with this, you totally don’t have to listen to me at all, but if you wanted feedback, here!) :> I think a lot of things were very over-explained in this essay. Like you said, only on page 7 does the essay reach its topic. This is not necessarily a bad thing in all scenarios, but it doesn’t really work here for a couple of reasons. I skipped a lot of the video, because it had talked a lot about things I have already heard of. I know this is a retrospective, and that half it’s job is to explain things, but when in the prep stage and/or editing stage, it is important to consider your demographic. If it was for people who have never taken any interest in horror before, perfect! But with how many advanced terms used later in this essay, that doesn’t seem to be the case. I think you could have saved a lot of time and got to the point way quicker with just as adequate understanding from the viewer with less explanation of internet horror. I don’t think it was necessary to go that far back to before the internet. There were also a couple unnecessary, seemingly a bit self-indulgent facts there, like how Polybius was very thoroughly explained compared to the Bunny Man, and how the fake game was the inspiration for Cabinet Man. Self-indulgent facts like that aren’t bad at all, though. In fact, in gave me a sense of kinship with the author, enticing me to keep watching/listening, because I like Lemon Demon as well! But what I’ve seen other creators do to mask the fact that it’s self-indulgent is loop it in with the topic somehow. Even doing something as small as changing the start of a sentence to make the fun fact seem like an example can retain the viewer’s attention and leave them more informed. Make it meaningful! :) Transitions can help with connecting things in a smooth, timely manner, which I think there definitely could have been more of. Like when, about halfway through the video, the concept of found footage was explained and credited TV Tropes (credits usually go at the end btw, but this was very funny! :>), it drops very hard into explaining the tropes of analog horror. A second ago there was a brief mention of/joke including analog horror, then we fully explained what found footage is as a supposed inspiration to analog horror (despite there being no explained connection as to **how** found footage inspires analog horror, **and** after the transition is made between history and inspirations into talking about analog horror itself), and now we are explaining the tropes of analog horror after giving a credit. At this point I was very confused. I had to replay that but a couple times to understand what was being talked about. I was thinking, “Wait, is this explaining analog horror because I don’t think that’s what it is. *replay* Oh, found footage is being explained now… wait why? I thought we were done with explanations of inspirations… I mean half the video was dedicated to it already and I skipped most of it.” I did very much like **how** you explained things, though. It was very informative and easy to understand. It fit well within a template and I really enjoyed hearing about what you were saying in this video. You are very good at keeping audience attention, with video editing and humor particularly. The jokes were very funny and the visuals made this video entertaining to watch! I didn’t mean to sound rude here or anything, and I don’t mean to say I’m better than you or that you need feedback or anything like that! I know you didn’t ask, so I’m sorry about that if I offended anyone. I just really enjoy and care about essays and horror media. I did really like this retrospective! It was fun to watch! Thank you! :> -Snake

9:40 I didn’t realize that was a thing until now so I decided to check it out since I thought I had a somewhat uncommon name… Apparently I’m a grumpy looking purple hedgehog wearing all black/grey with tiny glasses. Honestly better than expected.
While I in fact haven’t completely watched this video I think it’s pretty cool how local 58 and gemini home entertainment impacted analog horror as we know it
One *small* thing I would like to point out about the list of various games around 15:25, and that's the inclusion of Baldi's Basics. Which feels really weird to me because the game is obviously a massive parody of the genre. People still kind of took it seriously, but I don't think Baldi's was actually made to be enticing or even really scary on purpose.
I’d also like to add in the fact that DDLC was never heavily marketed to young kids in the same way that stuff like Poppy Playtime or Hello Neighbor was. Sure, DDLC plays on people’s expectations and even nostalgia of visual romance novels, but the target audience of people that would be into visual novels in the first place would typically be older Also I don’t think that DDLC’s use of hiding lore in hidden nooks and crannies feels forced or unnecessary like some other indie horror games, since poking around in the files is something that exists in and is actively acknowledged by DDLC’s narrative I understand why DDLC was put there since it was a popular horror game that came out at the same time as the others, it’s just funny to see it in the same list as something like Hello Neighbor of all things
I love the horror genre since i was i kid, i watched and readed a lot of Creepypasta back then like Ben Drowned, a lot of Pokémon Creepypasta, Nes Godzilla (being one of my favorites) and some other ones, but as i grow up some creepypasta didn't scared me anymore and was hard to found some new and good creepypasta. While i searched for some Creepypasta i found about the Analogue Horror, i started watching Mandela Catalogue, Smile tapes, CH/SS, Channel 51 and Gemini Home Entertainment, i feel in love with the genre for being something new for me and as i wait for new episode of Mandela Catalogue i started to search Horror in other Mídias, i started to play Silent Hill games and reading some Horror Mangás like Tomie, Uzumaki and Dracula Midnight Children. I really kied this vídeo and i hope you keep making more content like this, good luck :D
My first thought when I started watching WTDW was "Oh no another FNAF copy" the first thing I saw was the song, as I just had watched a Hazbin video of yours and went to your channel and it started playing the song, I chose to watch the series bc the song was a bop, I binged the entire series in one day.
9:47 ok, completely off topic, but that Sonic OC is ADORABLE! Anywho, thank-you for making this video. It was nice to hear the history of online horror.
i love analog horror but i am wayy too much of a coward to actually watch anything so this was a really cool discussion of it! some of the images from the trope discussion burned into the back of my eyelids though so im gonna have a fun time trying to fall asleep tonight
this is a good month late and i'm only about ten minutes in but hearing story of the blanks namedropped made me so happy. i still go back to replay that game to this day. it was one of the rare MLP creepypastas that weren't just "OO BLOOD GORE MURDER" and had compelling. this is already such a well-written video essay. love it.
13:55 currently taking my first course on the fnaf lore (/s) and holy fuck this shit is so complicated. one day it's "yeah okay so this is how it happened" and then 2 days later the next game comes out and someone goes "okay so that didn't actually happen it was a hallucination" the fnaf story is so poorly told and it was left up in the air that it all comes down to interpretation and i don't know how complicated the blueycapsules fnaf timeline is but i prefer that one.
I hate that the picture of ej still physically makes me uncomfortable despite nothing else scaring me. the second I saw it in your video, I had to turn away for a few seconds. like literally nothing scares me, but that image just really bothers. btw ej is also one of my favourites
I mean yeah you can make a game about Lore and Story but you need to make sure that your Lore is simple and consistent so the fictional world can make since.
15:13 but doki doki isn't about dating sim being possesed and wanting to kill. Its about a Yandere self conscius Ai that delet her friends to make you love her and i agree that doki doki play's on the cliche of a kinda old thing that you like becoming scary and sinestar but I think its kinda unfair to put in just being a possession dating sim
I haven't even watched the video yet. I just jumped down here to talk about how much I love analogue horror. Which is a lot. And that's not even beginning to scratch the surface, not to mention the fandoms are positively hilarious. Like, I can't with the memes-

By gosh this is actually terrifying for me at times it is pretty scary at times also, can someone please I’m begging to God someone please go over lore of this it is so complex for me that I can’t even figure it out
Honestly one the best anolog horror series I have seen is vita carnis. I won’t spoil much but it’s about meat creatures invading earth some of them are passive and are able to be tamed like meat snakes but some are very hostile like mimics and hosts
I love creepypastas well specifically the creepypastas that people head Cannon live in the slendermansion/ creepypasta mansion. They are the pastas i think of when hearing the word "creepypasta" i comment who are the specific creepypastas im talking about but i think you know what pastad im talking about.
What you may forget about the analog horror are subtle storytelling, pretty tight scripts, and being rough around the edges. At least they're my takeaway from watching some series. They often use less word and focus on immersion and lack of information (on the first glance) to convey their ambiguity. By the way, Dreamworld is a decent one I've seen. A mix of goofy saturday morning cartoon vibe and analog horror tropes is one of an unexpected, yet pleasant combination, although I gotta skip some bits as it felt too long for me.
@@Rainbott Oh I forgot. Fun Fact: Dreamworld is the actual name of an amusement park in Thailand too, and they once had promotions like trading cola caps for ticket discounts a few decades back. No cool animatronics walking around as mascots (un)fortunately.

It was nice to hear the history of online horror.
i love analog horror but i am wayy too much of a coward to actually watch anything so this was a really cool discussion of it! some of the images from the trope discussion burned into the back of my eyelids though so im gonna have a fun time trying to fall asleep tonight
this is a good month late and i'm only about ten minutes in but hearing story of the blanks namedropped made me so happy. i still go back to replay that game to this day. it was one of the rare MLP creepypastas that weren't just "OO BLOOD GORE MURDER" and had compelling.
this is already such a well-written video essay. love it.
I love pastra's Halloween guide
I love your series! It’s really amazing and I’m going to be honest I’m sorta young and I love gore! So those scary visuals you threw in were awsome!
13:55 currently taking my first course on the fnaf lore (/s) and holy fuck this shit is so complicated. one day it's "yeah okay so this is how it happened" and then 2 days later the next game comes out and someone goes "okay so that didn't actually happen it was a hallucination"
the fnaf story is so poorly told and it was left up in the air that it all comes down to interpretation and i don't know how complicated the blueycapsules fnaf timeline is but i prefer that one.
Imma search for some of your favorites, cuz i've never heard of 'em but they sound interesting, thanks for sharing
Harmony and horror is underrated it needs more love :(
Yeah I know but I don't watch it anymore cause I get nightmares about it
Sorry I didn't watch this earlier, but this is really cool.
15:13 but doki doki isn't about dating sim being possesed and wanting to kill. Its about a Yandere self conscius Ai that delet her friends to make you love her
and i agree that doki doki play's on the cliche of a kinda old thing that you like becoming scary and sinestar but I think its kinda unfair to put in just being a possession dating sim
I haven't even watched the video yet. I just jumped down here to talk about how much I love analogue horror. Which is a lot. And that's not even beginning to scratch the surface, not to mention the fandoms are positively hilarious. Like, I can't with the memes-
WHAT WHY DOES NOBODY EVER TALK ABOUT MONUMENT MYTHOS ITS ONE OF THE BEST 100% ITS SO TOP TIER IT BLOWS ALL OF THESE OUTTA THE WATER
one of the best creepy pasta things ive seen that i still watch today. that being the NES godzilla creepy pasta videos. if you have not seen them i reccomend them HIGHLY
I'd just like to say that I can't bealive they had TMK and Mario 64 Classified on the iceberg, but not Needlem0use, what the hell?
i found your channel through this videom but Dreamworld sounds really fun. I can appreciate the visuals so much since I'm an artist as well, I'll be sure to check it out! Subbed
telling the difference between reignbot and rainbott is gonna get really confusing
I do not know why but sonic.exe was always my favorite along side with slender
I actually found the chain mail fact pretty interesting but got distracted by slay slender man
By gosh this is actually terrifying for me at times it is pretty scary at times also, can someone please I’m begging to God someone please go over lore of this it is so complex for me that I can’t even figure it out
I just wanted to complain that this is actually kind of scary at times especially if you don’t really know what you’re getting into
Thought it was super cool that ECKVA was mentioned in here cause I think it’s super cool and I don’t think enough people know about it
I love this video I love horror and I love storys this is the video for me
This was v v fun!!!! Aaa so interesting to hear about this stuff, especially from somebody who is making their own analog series.
I’ve thought of making an analog horror series set in the early 2000’s filmed on the lowest quality cameras known to man (chromebooks)
DO IT!! I would love to see other people diving into the realm of analog Horror!
I love your animation style
this vid is exactly what i wanted
(tho ya forgot andy's apple farm in the iceberg and the vid, unless im blind)
Honestly one the best anolog horror series I have seen is vita carnis. I won’t spoil much but it’s about meat creatures invading earth some of them are passive and are able to be tamed like meat snakes but some are very hostile like mimics and hosts
38:10 tbf analog horror is already being filled with kids
dude i have not seen a dark moom or blood moon or whatever in a thumbnail for so long
This is so insightful- I was actually looking for a video like this. I really like analog horror, but I am quite busy. Thanks-
Dreams of an Insomniac is a banger
Thank you for this
the NES Godzilla creepypasta rocks
Personally my favoritecreepypastas are “my sleep paralysis demon is a really chill guy” and “the 18 lives of open the cat” along with a few others
Im so glad i decided to save this for the morning,, my paranoia brain😭
Dreamworld may not be scary but damn..is it good!
I love creepypastas well specifically the creepypastas that people head Cannon live in the slendermansion/ creepypasta mansion. They are the pastas i think of when hearing the word "creepypasta" i comment who are the specific creepypastas im talking about but i think you know what pastad im talking about.
This isn't here nor there, but your room is super cool!🌈👍💗
What you may forget about the analog horror are subtle storytelling, pretty tight scripts, and being rough around the edges. At least they're my takeaway from watching some series. They often use less word and focus on immersion and lack of information (on the first glance) to convey their ambiguity.
By the way, Dreamworld is a decent one I've seen. A mix of goofy saturday morning cartoon vibe and analog horror tropes is one of an unexpected, yet pleasant combination, although I gotta skip some bits as it felt too long for me.
Thank you for the feedback, as well as your own insight! I LOVE hearing about what other people think of the Horror genre :>
@@Rainbott Oh I forgot. Fun Fact: Dreamworld is the actual name of an amusement park in Thailand too, and they once had promotions like trading cola caps for ticket discounts a few decades back. No cool animatronics walking around as mascots (un)fortunately.
Hypnagogic Archives is so good tho
Poor Star in the thumbnail lol-
ddlc is NOT kid focused. its the exception to these lists
OMG! we both have black hair with purple bangs!❤❤❤
That’s it I’m subscribing you talked about to many things I liked this is like my third or fourth video of yours RUclips recommended me
no mention of alex kansas you will be evicted from reality
i thought mazandruby004 was a nightmare i had till this reminded me of it's existence
the blue channel is actually an analog horror short series by gooseworx.
The radio re creation of the war of the world (h.g wells)
Made by orson wells was also very influent in analog horror
Woah, I had never heard of that before! Thanks for pointing it out! :>
on an unrelated note I am one of those people who will help research and scavenger hunt any story or hidden sub-categories to the stories I check out
damn i was so excited to hear you talk about the tangi virus analogue horror serries and then you said you had to stop covering the iceberg 😭 i def recommend it and its sequel the oracle project
22:25 he looks like a happy feller
(Me seeing the thumbnail) Oh no star poor baby😂
oooh rainbotts making an analog horror
