I think the "My Curse" from Mad Musings was the most uncomfortable for me to listen to. People tend to skip them because they're Reitanna's vents through Minkie's character and it shows. When she (Minkie) started crying and asking why her mom didn't love her it became a bit too real, a bit too personal almost as if it wasn't Minkie speaking anymore.

I'm also happy you went into depth the problematic things Reitanna has done and is still doing. My theory regarding the murder vs SA topic is a mix of 1: People are significantly less likely to experience the former than the latter, whether that be to themselves or to a loved one, or even just an acquaintance. And 2: SA is purely from selfish desires, whereas murder can be committed out of the desire for a positive outcome for others. Not trying to justify murder or anything, taking the life of another is one of the worst things a person can do, but in a lot of cases there’s a certain level of heroism associated with it. Throughout history you will ALWAYS find cases, stories, and myths, of people taking down corrupt and individuals for the sake of a brighter future (and ofc, just as many where it was purely selfish and/or sadistic motives), SA only brings harm and trauma and is there for the gratification of the person(s) committing it, there’s no glory

Murder is almost always taken less seriously than SA (especially SA of a woman or minor) because SA is a crime of pure hedonism. It can also be explained by how it affects the victim. With murder, the victim dies. Yes there's their loved ones that are traumatic from the event though the victim lives end there, we don't see how their affected by it. But with topics like SA and pedophilia, the victim doesn't die. They still live and in turn, have to deal with the trauma they experienced throughout their life onwards. That can be why people often use murder rather than sa

Depending on how severe the trauma affects someone, it's a fate worse than death and that's another reason people are more okay with showing murder

People are mean, people are nice, people are confused, scared, angry, disgusted, loved, excited, etc. art is meant to show emotions in the work and that isn’t a bad thing. Art can be really fucked up. It can even hurt those who read it, but it’s all in how you present the story, set it up, disclaim/inform audiences, and finally execution. You can indeed write anything you want, no one is stoping you. But if you’re just going to glorify abuse, excuse blatant assault/grooming, insult victims. Then you’re not making “vent content” you’re making “porn of Abuse.” If you know you’re not skilled enough/don’t know to execute it tactfully then don’t make content about it-! Be silly, make goofy content! Not everything has to be dark. But don’t get mad at people for calling you out on it and then cry online because you didn’t like it.
Broadly agreed. I do think there are times when it's inappropriate and rude to criticize or critique a person who is clearly just having fun and isn't looking for feedback, and I definitely think it's presumptuous and rude to criticize a person *simply* for enjoying something you find boring or stupid. So, yes, people are certainly "asking for" responses when they put themselves out into the world, but not all responses are appropriate or constructive. I *do* think that if you do something that is obviously meant to court offense or controversy, you don't get to whine when people predictably react to the bait!

Nettle is sadly right about horrible fanfic getting popular and eventually getting deleted I'm in the eddsworld fandom and we had a 'My immortal' fanfic called 'Dear starboy' No oc inserts or anything all thought the cannon characters in the story feel like ocs. The story is a shitty romance with the most popular ship in the Fandom with a lot of triggering topics that have no warnings like homphobia, abusiveive fathers, and one of the main leads kill themselves via drowning because the other main love interest yelled at him and rejected him. They only knew echother for two weeks. It don't know when it was deleted but it was deleted after the popularity died off but sadly was reuploaded and now haunts the eddsworld Fandom to this day.
oh my god this is one of my favorite bad fanfictions, the way the characters are so out of character they are barely recognizable, the aggressively 2015 fashion style and songs, and pretty much everything else.
Oh fuck, I forgot that this fic even existed. I was in the Eddsworld fandom at like, the peak of Dear Starboy’s popularity. I vividly remember DMing a friend to ask her about what it was, and she described at as, “The greatest piece of writing on the internet,” or something to that effect. It’s honestly a huge shame too because, in a void, the title Dear Starboy is unironically really good. Like, damn, now I’m annoyed that I can’t use it without the Eddsworld association-

Personally I don’t need all that gore either, and I just think it would be really really cool to read the full story because your summaries ALONE have already brought so much more to the story! You’ve made it something thats actually enjoyable to read (I’ve already read the summaries at least 5 times lol) with diverse characters and dynamics, and interesting plot lines and backstories. I understand if you wouldn’t want to post it because of all the drama, but I just want you to know you’ve made a really REALLY intriguing premise that I love a LOT. I love how you talked about transformative art and reinterpretations. Sometimes you see a really cool concept but with poor execution/an odd writing decision and want it to improve. Especially if I'm very invested in the characters/fandom its hard for me not to want to make my own version. Like not stealing from them but taking inspiration and creating your own. This actually encouraged me to continue on my own writing projects that I've been putting off for a while.

Sorry if it’ll be abit long: The main thing that’s weird about ebony is that (I think) she refers to herself as a goth but she doesn’t listen to goth music cuz unlike what most ppl think goth is a music based subculture and all you need to do to get into it is listen to the music She’s more of an emo tbh. A very very very stereotypical emo The outfits are very 2000s but still very bad when I try to visualise them. i want more than anything to be able to sit down and talk to someone who also grew up with Reitanna's stories. I grew up watching EVERY single video of hers, and following her deviantart, but i dont actually know anyone else who did! its nice to see someone at least somewhat touching on the subject without getting super heated about it lol
i discovered reitanna seishin and her content when i was around 14 years old! i was already *obsessed* with cupcakes, to the point of creating my own original story [as in, not fandom related at all] inspired by the concept of a character torturing people in his basement and cooking them into various foods! that's actually my main story still, it's getting a book, but i won't ramble about that. the first muffins story i discovered was the pie sisters reunited; i was *super* confused about it, but i knew one thing, and that was that i already *loved* minkie pie! i then proceeded to listen to the other fics, and to make a long story short, i am *still* obsessed with minkie pie and muffins to this day, as a 23 year old!! i can say for sure 100% that minkie pie is my favorite pony character, even out of the canon characters! i love every single thing about her, from her *gorgeous* design, to her *edgy* personality! i *loooove* edgy characters, they are like, the air i breath or something... specifically, serial killer characters, and specifically *specifically* serial killer characters that torture people in their basement and then cook them into food. It's possible for a murder attempt to fail with the victim surviving and being horribly traumatized, but survivors of murder attempts are kind of uncommon, which helps give people a feeling of disconnect from the concept. There are also other reasons why SA and murder are treated differently, but the rest can generally be summed up as "SA genuinely manages to be more fucked up on basically every level, though both are terrible"

FanFiction is one of those things that tends to require a lot of practice. Not only have my fanfics gotten better over the years (not necessarily good, but better), but even my more formal/academic writings have benefited.

Ah yes,bad fanfiction. I remember doing it,writing fics on facebook and then on wattpad. They were bad,truly bad,but I had to get started somewhere and people were as convinced as I was of them being good so I kept writing. And I want to believe I've gotten better,so yes,those cringe fics shall always have a soft spot on my heart
the big difference between SA and murder in fiction is the horrific fact that SA is terribly common and murder is not so much. It's very likely that either you or someone who know has been SA'd, making it a much more painful and sensitive topic, whereas most people do not know someone who has been murdered.
I remember some of the old projects I tried writing back in 2017 on Fimfiction, about half of them were self insert stories that were so bad multiple people asked if I was trolling. One was an interesting idea I fumbled so bad I had someone offer to edit it for me for free because of how unreadable it was. All that is to say that I definitely got better at writing over the years, even now making my own original webcomic and finally found something I'm passionate about and want to pursue career wise. And as funny as it is to say probably none of that would be happening if not for the bad horse fiction I made 6 years ago.

i watched some of Urbanspook's videos. to those who have not watched them, it's a analog horror about a case about a serial killer who's calling card is grotesque paintings of his victims which is why referred to the killer as The Painter. turns out, that their are two killers which now reminds me of the Toolbox Killer case where police thought it was one but there were two. no idea what the controversy behind him is, i might check it out.
The main controversy is that he implied a child was sexual molested by the killer(s) (In the first episode they show the painting "Fucktoy Tim" or something like that and then Tim was revealed to be a 12 year old) just for shock value, plus selling shirts with printings of that painting

Dude i had a very similar experience where i listened to the entirety of muffins during middle school in a math test 😭😭😭 no i did not finish my test Also, about the disconnect between murder and sa. I think thats there in media because occasionally murder can be shown to have proper justifications (whether thats vigilante justice or something of that nature) where as sa and csa have absolutely no justification.
The only 'critcism' i think is valid for someone to get annoyed/frustrated at, is if that criticsm isnt actually helpful and/or is actively detrimental that is constantly being spammed at someone. On a fic i wrote, a speciifc commentor would not shut up about the fact i made the conscious decison to have that character be depicted less charitably than they were portrayed in canon. It got to the point that i started reporting those comments as spam. On other fics i write, there is a chronic issue of people ignoring the AU or canon divergent warnings i give out to criticize the fact something is different in the fic from canon. When a criticsm is aimed specifically at an element that was put there intentionally, that critique can be ignored and wholly discarded.
Bad Fanfics are so fun to read just to see how wild they get if they aren’t problematic. Also I relate to not enjoying Romance cause it’s predictable. Also, on the topic of horror we prefer, I love slow burn horror and found footage horror. Horror that makes you wait is much more effective than just Jumpscares cause it makes you question things and it’s just interesting.

People are mean, people are nice, people are confused, scared, angry, disgusted, loved, excited, etc. art is meant to show emotions in the work and that isn’t a bad thing.
Art can be really fucked up. It can even hurt those who read it, but it’s all in how you present the story, set it up, disclaim/inform audiences, and finally execution. You can indeed write anything you want, no one is stoping you.
But if you’re just going to glorify abuse, excuse blatant assault/grooming, insult victims. Then you’re not making “vent content” you’re making “porn of Abuse.” If you know you’re not skilled enough/don’t know to execute it tactfully then don’t make content about it-! Be silly, make goofy content! Not everything has to be dark. But don’t get mad at people for calling you out on it and then cry online because you didn’t like it.

I do think there are times when it's inappropriate and rude to criticize or critique a person who is clearly just having fun and isn't looking for feedback, and I definitely think it's presumptuous and rude to criticize a person *simply* for enjoying something you find boring or stupid. So, yes, people are certainly "asking for" responses when they put themselves out into the world, but not all responses are appropriate or constructive.
I *do* think that if you do something that is obviously meant to court offense or controversy, you don't get to whine when people predictably react to the bait!

I'm in the eddsworld fandom and we had a 'My immortal' fanfic called 'Dear starboy'
No oc inserts or anything all thought the cannon characters in the story feel like ocs.
The story is a shitty romance with the most popular ship in the Fandom with a lot of triggering topics that have no warnings like homphobia, abusiveive fathers, and one of the main leads kill themselves via drowning because the other main love interest yelled at him and rejected him.
They only knew echother for two weeks.
It don't know when it was deleted but it was deleted after the popularity died off but sadly was reuploaded and now haunts the eddsworld Fandom to this day.
oh my god this is one of my favorite bad fanfictions, the way the characters are so out of character they are barely recognizable, the aggressively 2015 fashion style and songs, and pretty much everything else.

Oh fuck, I forgot that this fic even existed. I was in the Eddsworld fandom at like, the peak of Dear Starboy’s popularity. I vividly remember DMing a friend to ask her about what it was, and she described at as, “The greatest piece of writing on the internet,” or something to that effect. It’s honestly a huge shame too because, in a void, the title Dear Starboy is unironically really good. Like, damn, now I’m annoyed that I can’t use it without the Eddsworld association-

Rainbott if you ever made a full fic of Icing on the cake and posted it I would die of happiness. Personally I don’t need all that gore either, and I just think it would be really really cool to read the full story because your summaries ALONE have already brought so much more to the story! You’ve made it something thats actually enjoyable to read (I’ve already read the summaries at least 5 times lol) with diverse characters and dynamics, and interesting plot lines and backstories. I understand if you wouldn’t want to post it because of all the drama, but I just want you to know you’ve made a really REALLY intriguing premise that I love a LOT. I love how you talked about transformative art and reinterpretations. Sometimes you see a really cool concept but with poor execution/an odd writing decision and want it to improve. Especially if I'm very invested in the characters/fandom its hard for me not to want to make my own version. Like not stealing from them but taking inspiration and creating your own. This actually encouraged me to continue on my own writing projects that I've been putting off for a while.

I purposely make my characters have designs that usually belong to Mary Sues, but then I make them actually well developed characters to teach the reader not to judge a book by it’s cover.

i discovered reitanna seishin and her content when i was around 14 years old! i was already *obsessed* with cupcakes, to the point of creating my own original story [as in, not fandom related at all] inspired by the concept of a character torturing people in his basement and cooking them into various foods! that's actually my main story still, it's getting a book, but i won't ramble about that. the first muffins story i discovered was the pie sisters reunited; i was *super* confused about it, but i knew one thing, and that was that i already *loved* minkie pie! i then proceeded to listen to the other fics, and to make a long story short, i am *still* obsessed with minkie pie and muffins to this day, as a 23 year old!! i can say for sure 100% that minkie pie is my favorite pony character, even out of the canon characters! i love every single thing about her, from her *gorgeous* design, to her *edgy* personality! i *loooove* edgy characters, they are like, the air i breath or something... specifically, serial killer characters, and specifically *specifically* serial killer characters that torture people in their basement and then cook them into food. It's possible for a murder attempt to fail with the victim surviving and being horribly traumatized, but survivors of murder attempts are kind of uncommon, which helps give people a feeling of disconnect from the concept. There are also other reasons why SA and murder are treated differently, but the rest can generally be summed up as "SA genuinely manages to be more fucked up on basically every level, though both are terrible"

the big difference between SA and murder in fiction is the horrific fact that SA is terribly common and murder is not so much. It's very likely that either you or someone who know has been SA'd, making it a much more painful and sensitive topic, whereas most people do not know someone who has been murdered.
I remember some of the old projects I tried writing back in 2017 on Fimfiction, about half of them were self insert stories that were so bad multiple people asked if I was trolling. One was an interesting idea I fumbled so bad I had someone offer to edit it for me for free because of how unreadable it was.
All that is to say that I definitely got better at writing over the years, even now making my own original webcomic and finally found something I'm passionate about and want to pursue career wise. And as funny as it is to say probably none of that would be happening if not for the bad horse fiction I made 6 years ago.

Personally I never really had an issue with Minkie Pie's original design, and frankly I prefer it over basically every redesign I've seen. i watched some of Urbanspook's videos. to those who have not watched them, it's a analog horror about a case about a serial killer who's calling card is grotesque paintings of his victims which is why referred to the killer as The Painter. turns out, that their are two killers which now reminds me of the Toolbox Killer case where police thought it was one but there were two. no idea what the controversy behind him is, i might check it out.
The main controversy is that he implied a child was sexual molested by the killer(s) (In the first episode they show the painting "Fucktoy Tim" or something like that and then Tim was revealed to be a 12 year old) just for shock value, plus selling shirts with printings of that painting

Also, about the disconnect between murder and sa. I think thats there in media because occasionally murder can be shown to have proper justifications (whether thats vigilante justice or something of that nature) where as sa and csa have absolutely no justification.
The only 'critcism' i think is valid for someone to get annoyed/frustrated at, is if that criticsm isnt actually helpful and/or is actively detrimental that is constantly being spammed at someone.
On a fic i wrote, a speciifc commentor would not shut up about the fact i made the conscious decison to have that character be depicted less charitably than they were portrayed in canon. It got to the point that i started reporting those comments as spam.
On other fics i write, there is a chronic issue of people ignoring the AU or canon divergent warnings i give out to criticize the fact something is different in the fic from canon. When a criticsm is aimed specifically at an element that was put there intentionally, that critique can be ignored and wholly discarded.
