      @@19822andyDi Canio said that he wouldn't be able to leave West Ham because they gave him a chance to play again after he was banned for 11 matches for pushing a ref while playing for Sheffield Wednesday. So even if Ferguson showed greater interest he wouldn't have gone and the only reason he left was because the club was relegated, so they didn't renew his contract, possibly to free up some of the wage budget.

      @Keynesian Economics I would agree with you the more I look at the numbers and consistency Lamps showed throughout his Premier League career. He hardly ever missed a game and had that consecutive record appearance for an outfield player as well.... Very durable and world class finishing from midfield.

    Yes, West Ham played their part and that is all the credit they get. He is a Chelsea legend and Chelsea got the best out of him. West ham fans never accepted him and always gave him a hard time. Chelsea fans appreciated what a talent he was and supported him when he first came to us till today.

    And if the fans at WHU hadn't treated him so badly he would have stayed. I'm sure the prospect of a club with bigger ambitions at the time as well as perhaps more money was a huge part. But from all I've read and heard he loved West Ham. It was his club no doubt.

    di canio was never a poacher, he was a support striker. his duty was actually more of an AM role and most of the time he spends on the pitch he's distributing play, creating chances and dictating tempo of the game.
    unlike lampard who is an AM but plays like a striker. just look at how many shots does lampard register per game. its surprising he doesn't score more really

      No, Lampard played nearly all of his career as a box to box player (albeit more geared towards attacking)
      It was the timing of his runs which was central to his goal scoring record, along with long shots and pens.

    And beating Chelsea is your only Aim for the season, we won Premier League, FA Cup Champions, European Champions and WHU have won only respect nothing else. And I'm talking about Lampard era, he has been a crucial player for Chelsea, only if WHU fan would have treated him nicely, may be he would have stayed up there. Read his autobiography for the reasons why he left west ham before judging him. He is a LEGEND.

    West Ham made me an average, standard Prem midfielder...congrats on that. But chelsea took him several steps forward to not only being above average, but one of the best midfielders in the world. Chelsea deserve the credit in making him as good as he has been. West Ham fans never appreciated his potential and nor did the club, that is why he left at such a young age.

    @vikaslampardkatoch lampard has scored so many goals because he had always played in premier league, where clubs don't know how to difend. In Italy is more difficult to score therefore strikers scores less. Lampard in Italy would have scored 1/10 of that goals.
