I don't live in the US but my question is "Is $600,000 enough to cover the damages?" From what I see, since the place is a million dollar house, it should require as much money as well to repair it because the only thing not happened to the house is to burn it down. It's damaged to the point that I don't think the landlord can rent it as "a million dollar house" without a lot of repairs.
There's no doubt the landlord probably has insurance so it feels like he low balled it not to ruin them. Idk its really odd unless the guy is acting nice to get better buyers.
Probably is, being handed hundreds of thousands of dollars before you turn 20 isn't healthy for anyone's state of mind and will probably turn you into a spoiled cunt
Social media needs to be eliminated, because it's ruining society. Gambling, drugs, and alcohol abuse isn't as damaging as this trend we are seeing now.
Maintenance guy here. So, the ceiling by the elevator has water damage. For it to start peeling like that, there had to have been a lot of water. It's best to replace it, but if you can stop the leak right when it happens and get some drying equipment in there such as a Air Mover Blower (big fans used to dry carpet) and dehumidifiers (not the cheap 40$ ones. The 1200$ ones) you can save to drywall and treat the drywall.
They probably did something stupid like flooding the bath or sink to cause something like that A lot of commenters believe the $600k estimate is too low, I'm curious what you think based on the video?
@@RobKaiser_SQuest Oh definitely. Once they start digging and start repairing, there will be more cost. Especially if any water damage causes, mold or mildew and you would have treatment for that.

Something I learned in my first days out as well. You don't screw with the landlord or rental property. Always keep that in the back of your mind -- it's NOT your house.
@@TKUltra971 Also from my experience in the UK the landlord WILL try to claim you damaged the house even if it's in the same condition you moved in. Our flat was a dump because of the previous tenants (hadn't cleaned anything properly, a bunch of stuff was broken, they had stuffed vents with plastic bags and covered them with wallpaper so we had a horrendous mould problem) and we spent a lot of time getting things fixed so in the end it was in better condition than it was when we moved in. Landlord still tried to claim the blu tack stains on one wall would cost our deposit (£1600) and perhaps more to literally paint over. My friends have had similar experiences.
Sure, the holes in the wall, painting the wall, and such can be pretty cheap fixes, but repairs to the pool and retiling that whole area, fixing the roof all over, the central AC getting busted, mold and water damage treatment, replacing furniture throughout the whole house, etc all at Hollywood prices... I could reasonably be convinced that $300,000 was them being lenient because of their age.
@WokeEmperor IIRC, the lawsuit lists the physical damages costing $300k of the $400k initial verdict. The breaches add an additional $200k to push it to the $600k. Which I guess makes the unchecked $100k from the initial suit as legal fees, emotional damage, etc.
And I think the breach of the lease probably played a factor too... Like they did say in the video that there was no fireworks allowed and a few other things too
As a housekeeper, it just amazes me how some people can be so selfish to the point that they destroy or trash places they rent or resort/hotel rooms they stay at "just for fun". They don't think about the repercussions or the person or people that are going to have to clean up after them and fix whatever they've destroyed. Looks like they're getting their karma though since they'll have to pay for all of it.. but they seem like the type of people that won't learn from it. It's sad
They think they're better than the people who have to clean up their messes, that's why they don't give a 💩. Jail time with some street criminals should knock the narcissistic attitudes right out of them. Please let someone film and post THAT content 🤞
Sadly I always thought there was a cap on how much a person can have to pay in a suit. Something like 300k but I’m guessing they are being sued as a entity and not a single person? I’m not sure I’m only Half way in and didn’t look at the lawsuit paperwork.
@@Wentr-z I think it's because it's different types of damages. You have the physical damage, the lost rent while damages are being fixed, rent that wasn't paid and any punitive damages.
@@DannyHollywoodHomes I hope it all works out for you. The amount of disrespect they had for your property is disheartening. If I were the judge I would force them to work at the job site till everything is fixed. A few days on a hot tar roof in the summer will teach them.
As a teenager I will never understand how other teens/ Young adults do this to a house. If they OWNED the house, okay, it's still stupid but it's their house. But they rented this house. It's not theirs by any means. There should never be a reason to have this much damage to a house. Much less think u would get away with it. Smh. What has my generation come to. Srsly.
This is the mind of kids who don't give a crap, think they're cool and do what they want because they think they're old enough to know everything. My brother was the same. My mum was working 24 hour shifts to keep up with the mortgage, because she dreamed of owning her own home. My brother and his friends trashed the place when he was 16, and I don't know why. It's like he thought he was a king with this house that was "his". My mum let the place go to the bank after a while. If she paid off the mortgage she would have needed to work even longer hours to pay for the repairs. The same happened when I was 17. Mum left the flat she rented after, and my brother had different friends. I got kicked out by him. He got kicked out a year later for not paying rent. Now, 13 years late, he's been crashing on my sofa for the past 2 years, because he's struggling to even find someone to rent from, because of the rent and council tax debt he's in. Also, my place is a shit hole, because he's accustomed to his own mess and he doesn't see anything wrong with it. I'm kicking him out in March. That's enough time for him to find somewhere. I can finally decorate and make this place look and feel like home for once.
Basically they are 5 y.o.s stuck in an apparent adult size body. The landlord pretty much has to gut the entire house and go at it from scratch. Soon enough, they will bankrupt. I’d say, in less than two years.
And this is why we can't have nice things.... On a serious note, it's not like they'll learn their lesson. This kind of behavior is notorious of online influencers. I remember seeing something quite a few years ago about the Jake Paul rental where he was just destroying the pool. I can't even fathom disrespecting other people's property to that extent. For the landlord's sake, I hope he gets the money.
It’s simply red by social media. They don’t care cause it gets views. Also jake Paul owned his house so that wasn’t as big of a deal apart from the fire he set.

I grew up in a blue collar family and had to learn how to fix shit that broke pretty young. Im middle aged now and can't imagine just destroying a house like that. When the vcr broke my dad taught me how to take it apart and fix it. This is insane to me. We did our own tiling and that damage they did is crazy.
Social media is a gift to law enforcement! Also, this owner seems wayyyy to calm while showing all the damage they did! I’d be pissed is it was my house!
Given that he's renting out a fully furnished $6 million home in the Hollywood hills, I assume that he has plenty of money and $600k is little more than a mild inconvenience to him With that said, though, I think the kids should be on the hook for every penny of damage, plus more to account for the owner's wasted time and efforts. The time it takes to repair the house is time that the owner can't monetize by renting it out to other people. These kids likely have a lot of money too, so they need to be hit hard enough in their wallets to dissuade them from ever pulling shit like this again
As a former landlord it’s almost a grieving process or something. Like you have to process it all and deal with it accordingly. I’m sure he flipped the F out privately 😂
I think this is part of the process in their "job". They rent their expensive place and if all goes well they get paid without doing anything (significant). Now if things get screwed like what happened here, that's were renting to social media kiddies comes in, the fools themselves provide the proof for making a clean case in court. The Landlord get their pay as well as getting the most expensive repair job they can be paid for by the dumb idiots. Getting the court case settled would be the only thing they have to work on.
how could it not go wrong for the landlord? he gets paid in rent, and now he gets paid showing this footage to a judge. The only loss is time which is really irrelevant when you pay people to do things for you.
playing devils advocate here (not because i like landlords, the guy probably never worked an honest day in his life, and if he has, he had a very rich family), and say that he maybe thought they were gonna be tamer? he could have not understood tiktok and just seen their representatives and the money they'd pay and said "sure, if you'll watch out for the state of the house i'll rent it out". but yeah, he probably already calculated for that to happen and just wants easy money and stuff
600K is probably just a conservative estimate of the damages. Then there's the lost rent income for the duration that the house will be renovated for on top, as well as whatever you value the unnecessary inconvenience of the landlord having to deal with all of this bs at.
Theres levels of expected damage, theres wear and tear aka small scratches, maybe a couple cracked tiles and furniture that look used(fraying, sinked in sofa pillows etc) but then theres what hype house did, which is treat the property with no regard for afterwards when they hand over the keys
@@CB-rv2lj lmaoooo honestly I’m glad this happened, mainly because this might make it harder for idiots like them to rent out a house. They wont pay it, like millions of people in US. That landlord will not see compensation, and if they were to pay, they could pay 100.00 per month. Then he has the home insurance, which will not cover all of it and the insurance will see these videos and find ways to pay out less.

As a home owner, you have to be really careful who you rent to, because there are always bad renters, who will destroy and who won’t pay. It’s obvious that the owner has a case and will most likely win in court, but he’s not likely to see any money soon and getting professional help to come in to fix the house won’t come cheap. The worst part is that he can’t rent the house until it is fixed, so again lost revenue for all the time that this house remains empty.
@Your_FriendlyNeighborhood Jewish Banker I mean yeah but you don't know either if they worked on that house or not. Even if they didn't physical work on the house they still paid to have this house look they wanted it to and not it's destroyed.

BTW, that black tar stuff on the roof is referred to as "Gracing." I've installed it before, and it is a very expensive material and a very time-consuming install. Also it gets super hot in the summer. I hope they burned their feet walking on it.
The best thing about this is the easy lawsuit the landlord can serve. Literally all of the damage was caught on camera and posted to a public website lmao
This is why teaching kids to leave a place better then they found it is key. Now they've messed it up for everyone with this guy cause that looks like a nice house
I originally thought the 600,000 was just inflated because they can get away with it. But after seeing the broken tiles and broken pool and everything else, yeah I think he could possibly ask for more money honestly.
Oh absolutely. The tile job by the pool cost him easy $75,000 to begin with… and that’s new work. Now they gotta pay a demo guy, replace the tiles, new pool equipment that runs easy $20,000, and have that replaced. The absolute stupidity and audacity of influencers is a cancerous blight on our society. I never was in favor of the gulag… until now. It should have been closer to 1.5mill imo.
I guess the landlord thought since they're teenagers/young adults, their management company sends over a cleaning service once a week or so. Idk, who thought they'd just clean by themselves without any parent yelling at them lol?

I rented out a room in my dad's house for him, and we literally had to replace the carpet in the room they rented out because they left a massive pile of trash, with no bag, just piled in a corner of the room. We had to repaint the room also because it smelt like a dumpster. And they only rented the room for like 2 months. During that time, they also broke the toilet in the bathroom they were using, and idk what they did, but ever since they rented a room, the bathroom pipes make a super high pitch noise, it'll go away temporarily when I flush the toilet, but it's basically nonstop. Also, we had to replace the kitchen counter tops because there was stains all over it, and they would somehow melt the kitchen counters. They said it was from them making coffee, but idk how that would happen, it was like 1-2inch burn marks, some of which were SUPER deep, they also warped the countertop, im assuming from whatever heat source they were using, but I honestly don't know. I knew they weren't gonna be good roommates/tenants when they left dirty dishes all over the kitchen the first night they stayed here, but I didn't realize they were going to totally ruin the kitchen, a bathroom, and the room they rented.
@@AKbaby89 you said at the beginning "I rented out a room in my dad's house for him" but I'm not sure which Hype House member you imply with it, sorry if it wasn't understandable

Can they garnish the profits for the show? That alone will cut into the incentive for anyone to bankroll these kinds of shows. I'd personally be happy with a decision along the lines of "They destroyed 600k of a 1000k home, so they get the first 600k - tebbled - 1800k, plus 60% of every dollar after that". (Yes - treble damages is a thing, and can be applied to property damage - it's part of how cutting down one tree belonging to someone else can cost you over a quarter of million dollars)
They really should have rebranded into the Hype Rental considering they couldn't even put the yt revenue towards actually BUYING a house that they could have every right to damage instead of putting a stranger through hell and back for the sole purpose of "content" that was sub par at best.
That ceiling damage looks like water damage from above - I let a friend stay with me a few years ago and their wife took a bath upstairs and kept the water on so it just kept flowing over the sides of the tub, the water did something similar to the painted ceiling below. @Allison June Lmao I don't think any sensible person envies these kinds of dipshits. Sounds like you're just projecting into OP--nice to know you're one of them though 😉
I worked in property management and for houses like this we did two things: 1. Ask for a very high damage deposit. 2. Ask for a high furniture damage deposit. But of course we also never recommended renting these homes long term because this type of stuff happens regularly. If you can buy a home and decide to rent, usually the reason is to avoid the responsibility. The landlord should actually not be surprised, if he is, that's his fault. We always told our clients to be prepared for this.
The problem is that if only one person ends up on the lease, only that one can be sued and if that person becomes insolvent, that person is expected to serve 5 years in a minimum-security prison and the cost of repair remains by the homeowner.
My dad's tenants did this to his house whilst he was suffering from cancer. When they finally moved out, because we wouldn't replace the mattresses they had fucked flat, they stole some of our furniture, didn't pay the last month's rent or clean the house (left masturbation tissues stuffed down the side of the bed) and left the windows open no doubt hoping someone would come in to squat. They didn't pay any of their utility bills and so all the debts reverted to my dad who was so shocked by it that he died 4 months later. This is even after they were renting the house as a 5 bedroom but had turned one of the reception rooms into an addition bedroom and had 10 people sharing the already discounted rent. They were all immigrants to the UK and left and went back to their native lands so there was nothing to be done. No hunting them down... legally. This is why I resent hearing crap out evil landlords, because I have experienced disgusting POS tenants. We never had a nice tenant in 10 years. Even the previous set stole our furnishings.
I have to say I would have not expected young people to do this kind of damage to a house (smashing TVs etc). I know a lot of young people that wouldn’t do that. Maybe not take out the trash or burn holes in the couch or stuff like that but not this kind of damage.
Right? Millions of young adults rent for college every year, and i doubt the majority of them can cause even a fraction of what these influencers did. Its an attitude problem not a young people problem.

From what I see, since the place is a million dollar house, it should require as much money as well to repair it because the only thing not happened to the house is to burn it down. It's damaged to the point that I don't think the landlord can rent it as "a million dollar house" without a lot of repairs.

Not even close and then there’s the cost of fine violations from the state they probably made. 600k wouldn’t cover a fraction

@@RobKaiser_SQuest Oh definitely. Once they start digging and start repairing, there will be more cost. Especially if any water damage causes, mold or mildew and you would have treatment for that.

I hope Atozy does a follow-up on this
@@TKUltra971 Also from my experience in the UK the landlord WILL try to claim you damaged the house even if it's in the same condition you moved in.

@@Lemontart53 My elementary school children know not to punch a golf club into a TV. „Old enough“ is a term woefully underpowered here…
Sure, the holes in the wall, painting the wall, and such can be pretty cheap fixes, but repairs to the pool and retiling that whole area, fixing the roof all over, the central AC getting busted, mold and water damage treatment, replacing furniture throughout the whole house, etc all at Hollywood prices... I could reasonably be convinced that $300,000 was them being lenient because of their age.
nah fuck that, if you are old enough to rent then you are old enough to be held responsible for your shitty actions.
@WokeEmperor IIRC, the lawsuit lists the physical damages costing $300k of the $400k initial verdict. The breaches add an additional $200k to push it to the $600k. Which I guess makes the unchecked $100k from the initial suit as legal fees, emotional damage, etc.

With that said, though, I think the kids should be on the hook for every penny of damage, plus more to account for the owner's wasted time and efforts. playing devils advocate here (not because i like landlords, the guy probably never worked an honest day in his life, and if he has, he had a very rich family), and say that he maybe thought they were gonna be tamer? he could have not understood tiktok and just seen their representatives and the money they'd pay and said "sure, if you'll watch out for the state of the house i'll rent it out". but yeah, he probably already calculated for that to happen and just wants easy money and stuff

They dealt more in damage to that single house than most houses in the UK cost in general. Let that sink in for a moment.
The thing I don't understand with people who do this to their rental properties (usually university students) is the fact that they have to live in the house they destroyed. I can't imagine feeling comfortable in a house that beat up - especially if it was pristine to begin with.
I mean, sure, they probably wanted to break the lease and leave early because of the damages as well but still.
At first I thought the $600,000 is a lot but DAMN, how did they managed to do that much damage? I feel so bad for the tiles. That stuff cost so much money to fix. You can't really fix them, they're going to have to remove all the tiles and replace it with new tiles.
I bet you the pool has a bunch of broken tiles he may not have noticed as well.
@@UnbeltedSundew how did they even break the pool motors?? if they damage any piping, cause stress on the pumps by covering the vacuum pipe or getting it to overheat
@@peppermeat8059 I have no idea? Maybe they let clothes or garbage block the returns in the pool as well? Maybe they just never cleaned it? Maybe they just ran them constantly without a rest cycle? It's insane. Why were they even down there filming anything?
They behave like 12-year-olds left home alone for the first time.
I’m starting to see more and more videos of influencers getting mad at people for walking through their videos while they’re recording in public places……I pray it happens to me so I can cuss one of these idiots out.
@Allison June Lmao I don't think any sensible person envies these kinds of dipshits. Sounds like you're just projecting into OP--nice to know you're one of them though 😉
I worked in property management and for houses like this we did two things:
Its not his fault, its expected that you treat their property with respect but that doesnt happen anymore
I am spending my mid life crisis watching your videos. This one in particular shows me just how smart I am and that things aren't so bad. Thank you!
I don't want to image the garbage and trash they had there.
Those large broken tiles can end up being over $500 ea to replace, in LA prob double lol
The problem is that if only one person ends up on the lease, only that one can be sued and if that person becomes insolvent, that person is expected to serve 5 years in a minimum-security prison and the cost of repair remains by the homeowner.
Honestly this is a win win. TikTokers take a big ol L, and multimillionaire LA landlord also takes a big ol L 🤷♂️
That's true
Shouldn’t just sue for money, but jail time with no bail.
Yeah because Jail is a perfect place for them to make money to pay back what they owe lol
@@devonwilliams2423they can pay it back later, the satisfaction of those morons being in jail would be worth it.
What could they be charged with for prison?
What is embarrassing it’s to call one self tiktoker? That’s embarrassing!
It's not like they've had a taste of the real world or have come anywhere close to paying their dues yet.
I love what you used as a background for your vid's never thought about putting one up on the wall, must be decent at stopping echo
This landlord has previously rented a home to another young influencer who also ended up trashing it. This dude never learned his lesson, it'd kinda hilarious!
kids pulling a Jackass stunts without the Paramount MTV money smh.
No not cleaning after yourself is having no type of discipline. Literally have enough self respect to take out ur own trash
i feel bad for the guy the landlord hired to compile the self snitching evidence hahaha homie was locked in watching that garbage for hours.
"Egos the size of a blimp"
Atozy 2023
It's funny bc those kids probably don't even know what a blimp is
Wow no one has *ever* said this
He is totally low-balling 600k in damages. There is no way that's not been reduced.
Didn’t the hype house have a set of rules for the content creators like “no throwing parties” and “don’t break things in the house! You break it you pay it policy”?!?!? Look up hype house rules! This just contradicts the houses “rules”! This is just crazy!!! 😂
That’s the landlord that rented to Creatyler too and that guy DESTROYED his house. Crazy that he still thinks it’s a good idea to rent to influencers after all this time. He must make good money on the videos he makes of the aftermath 😅
600k wtf seeing the ways they treat the home just go for 1.5M to slap them the reality
The maturity level of all occupants combined couldn’t have surpassed 18 years. The landlord probably should’ve been a little more proactive. They still need to pay up!
Good job getting the complaint, but if you ever get court docs again, be sure to show the caption and case number so weirdos like me can look up the case docket and see what has happened.
Stupidity all the way around by all parties including owner and his agent. Wonder what the home owners insurance agent / company is thinking or if this damage was excluded by terms of insurance since house was leased for commercial purposes?
