the guy that promoted her has one of the best influencer apologies ever. Right to the point, taking responsibility, taking down his video, no crying. No over dramatic emotions (def could feel his anger though).
Props to the dude who was sponsored by her for admitting his ignorance and recognizing that promoting someone's product with zero research was pretty stupid
@@GoofyFang He only recommend it. As long as he apologizes, takes down the recommendation, and make sure to clarify not to buy the product along with others like it then that's full accountability imo. Especially since no one has been severely harmed yet. Edited: Sponsored to recommended.
The insane difference between Keith's "I was ignorant and I apologize for that" apology and pickle lady's "thanks for supporting me, sorry if I offended anyone" non-apology is soooo funny lol
I appreciate that guy who made a video basically telling his audience "stop that, we aren't entertaining this anymore" glad to know that people with following are growing morals
Bro took responsibility like I would expect one of my homies to do. He's willing to admit that he was ignorant on the situation. That's really all that needs to be said.
@wheresimpreza even if its 'damage control' he still took accountability, which is more than can be said for a lot of people who make mistakes online and only try to double down when they're called on it. none of us know him or can know his intentions 100% ( including _you_ ), but we can still see from his video that he did the right thing and Apologized, and that's what matters.
I loved the line: "She reposted my video, I asked her to take it down, she refused, now we in a situation..." - that is the kinda tea I'm here for, personally. Good for him. I loved his contribution to this discussion and this... situation... xD
Dude that guys apology video was crazy! That is how an apology is done and when you come out with a statement like that it’s hard to find fault really. He came out was 100% straight with everyone and took all the blame too. What a genuine guy if I ever meet him I’d like to shake his hand

I thought her apology was pretty good as well. She seemed sincere and admitted her mistakes, even offered refunds. For what it’s worth though, they both have a vested business interest in making an apology seem as good and sincere as possible. At the end of the day; this is basically PR work.
Okay but that guy that called her out is a legend. All apologies should be like that. Admits he was ignorant to the situation and didn't do his research. Apologies and calmly tells his audience the situation and makes his feelings clear
As a professional chef, as in I'm employed and hired based on my experience and resume, seeing these TokChefs fail is humourous, but also as a food professional, my biggest nightmare is hurting someone. Botulism is DEADLY.
As someone (among seemingly few) who's had it, it ain't fun. Felt like someone was sitting on my chest for a week and half, also got really hard to talk about halfway through.
@@brensherlock Hello, the bacteria that causes botulism has an "endospore" state meaning that when environmental conditions aren't favorable they'll harden and wait in stasis. Once within a more favorable condition like the human body they spring back to action. Endospores can be extremely tough and can last many years waiting for the right condition. My b forgot to answer: yes they can live in ph shifts
If she was in California, chances are she's experiencing some sort of litigation. Just because you don't hear about it doesn't mean it's not happening.
I accepted that mans apology even though this is the first time I've heard about the Pickle Girl. 😂 Shes lousy at backtracking and gaslighting. I'm guessing that shes lucky she hasn't killed anyone yet. Chances are she wouldn't be able to afford the resulting lawsuit either.
She'd have to be super unlucky to even make anyone sick with pickled products. That's basically why things were pickled throughout history in the first place. That doesn't make it okay to skirt established food safety laws, however. It's a big deal for her, and her 'business', but it's literally a zero on the actual drama scale.
Big respect to Keith for making a statement retracting his support/recommendation. A lot of creators will just take down the video and ignore the situation/what they said. Good on him.
Probably one of the few good apology videos from a content creator. Professional, personal, mature, and doesn't try to shift his mistake on someone else.
The fact that Keith (I love Keith by the way) gave a better apology than the pickle lady speaks volumes. I commented on her stuff saying she could kill people by doing this, and her response was “happy holidays”
Keith is one of the few genuine influencers who doesnt let the "fame" get to his head. People get a little famous online and act like theyre better than people which is why you get half assed apologies.
But y'all will still eat McDonald's "pink sludge" burgers and god-knows-whats-in-this-meat Taco Bell and other crap fast food out there with zero qualms. And then wonder why your body feels like sh*t.
@marybean2231 I don't buy anything from the grocery store, I grow my own food and buy from local farmers and Amish communities. That's my whole point 🤦🏼♀️
@Mary Bean food safety and food storage do relate, but Chelsee was referring to just the ingredients being used in processing the food. Both are quality control issues.
@marybean2231 not sure what you're talking about since I already said multiple times that I literally grow my own food, meaning I don't need transportation, fertilizer (I have my own cattle and livestock for that) or anything else you mentioned. I homestead, meaning I live off my land.
@@Handleisnotavailable1 Yeah no shit. You would rather he stayed quiet and not say anything? Man, people take accountability and bitches will still whine. The guy that made the apology video deserves major props. If you fucked up, say you fucked up. Own it. Dont play victim. Dont divert the blame. Apologize to your audience and the masses, accept responsibility and tell them your plan to fix things respectfully and finally move on.
She may not have known about pink sauce lady. With how many users are on tik tok, even 10 million followers is still less than 1% of users, so easily might not have known.
Keith, the guy who apologized, is a known TikToker for being a good critic and he try’s his best to try any and all foods and restaurants. I’m not surprised he tried her pickles to help support her (BEFORE everything came out) and I’m also not surprised he apologized and took accountability. That’s the type of person he is on that app and for this reason, he’s one of the few TikTokers that I like and enjoy watching.
I used to can pickled veggies and I always boiled the jar, it’s a known part of the process. What concerned me the most about her apology was all the comments she deleted telling her she had a problem, then she acted like she just found out

My family makes jams and preserves all the time when we have an excess of fruit. It doesn’t take much more then boiling the hand sealed jars in a tall stock pot filled with water for ten minutes or longer. If one or two of the jars don’t seal for whatever reason then we don’t eat them, simple as that. Plus if she’s not canning them correctly then who’s to say she’s sterilizing the jars before putting anything in them.
@@everythingpony we can’t eat a entire jar of jam in a week. We normally eat it on the weekends when we have time and give or take a week or two it will go bad. Plus we make twenty jars of jam in a batch.
@FyreFly08 true, some things are 1000x riskier than others. Meats, carbohydrates, acidic stuff like tomatoes and other stuff I’m not an expert on. But pickles are arguably the safest things to can. The brine keeps the pickle preserved and bacterial from festering. Sailors used to bring wooden barrels of pickles on year long voyages to combat scurvy. It was the only thing at the time that wasn’t dried but stayed safe
"it's one thing to be ignorant...you should take the education given to you." That creator is such a boss, I don't even use TikTok so I'm ab to follow him everywhere else🙌

It's crazy how people kinda treat tik tok like it's own search engine. We talked about marketing in class and people shop, look at reviews and everything on tik tok
My best guess is she was doing more of a “refrigerator” pickle that doesn’t require heat sealing typically/for immediate home consumption. I was sent moldy pickles from a deli in NYC I was excited to try. They also do not properly jar them for shipment and could have killed me last summer. When I sent photos of the pickles with discoloration, they told me to toss the ones not in the brine and eat the rest…clearly rotten. They needed to stay chilled and they shipped them to me in the TN summer without a cold pack. I cannot believe I paid 130 only to have to toss most of it (the olives were okay in a glass jar Vs plastic bucket).
She probably didn't fuck it up - she probably just didn't know about it. I mean, I didn't, until you said it just now. I think it's important to remember that some of these people are very young and lacking in experience. They probably *will* make mistakes, not out of stupidity, but simply because they don't have someone there with the necessary experience to notice when they're doing something wrong. So instead of that, they're finding out later, when half the Internet is screaming at them about botulism. Like, I don't want to make excuses for anyone, but I also think the Internet comes down way too hard on people for not knowing something that they weren't aware they didn't know. That's the "I'm only human" part that I can actually accept, because it's actually true - one of the things we gain from growing up is getting a sense of how much we don't know.
@FTZPLTC honestly, I don't think this is a good excuse. If you're going to be going into a field, if you're going to be selling something, you seriously should know the ins and outs. You should know what the risks are. Botulism is the first thing that anyone going into canning learns, whether they teach themselves or if they're being taught. There would be no excuse if one of these cans contained botulism and that killed someone. Human error is expected but when you're profiting off of it you seriously need to be better.
@@realleon2328 I agree with both of you. The internet does come down way too hard on people and I also believe that the people who go hard on someone would completely crumble if that much hate was directed towards them. Anon people on the internet will never be kind as they never see people online as actually humans who make mistakes, just like they do except they get to do it in the privacy of their normal life. BUT, in the case of food there is absolutely no excuse. If someone is wanting to make a profit on products for human consumption, they seriously need to be smart enough to do at least a little research into how to do it properly.

The issue isn't "food made in a house" it's selling a homemade quality product commercially. Can't do that kind of thing. I looked into making bread from my own kitchen and just to do that, [thinking, its JUST bread!] while following the cottage foods guidelines and whatnot is a lot of work. It's not impossible; it's pretty straight forward. But you do need to self-regulate and be Super conscious of everything you do. You're in your own home, you may stick the spoon you just licked back into a pot of sauce you're making for your family, but not want to do that for your neighbors. To make "cottage foods" you almost have to have an entire separate kitchen, all utensils, appliances, equipment must ONLY be used for your business purposes. The space itself, kids can not be present during production and No animals/pets, Ever in the area. All states are different and some require you to have an inspection by a health officer.
yeh, kinda this. I would like to make food for people and everything, Im an okay cook and I like to make new dishes and such - but the whole separation of food from life is trippy. And I get it, people can have allergies that fuk them over, so you wanna make certain no cross contamination is happening. Sanitation and what not, having that clean working space is hard. She literally contradicted herself in her "apology" video. She said she was going to refund all customers for their orders, then tried to ask people to hold onto their orders while she works things out. The video prior to that she said she was going to show the licenses she has, but then she comes out and says that she's working on even acquiring a license. Also it kind of ticked me off that she was downplaying everyone's criticisms to "hate comments" and asking people to be "nicer." If you're doing something illegal; regardless of whether you realize it or not, that could potentially harm people, no one is going to treat you like a kid and "be nice" to you, they're going to be strict and firm and tell you that what you're doing is wrong and that you need to STOP. She is not some 14 year-old middle schooler, she is a grown adult and she needs to get it through her head that people are going to treat her like one. Her saying she "wasn't trying to hide" is very unbelievable for me since she blocked and deleted LEGITIMATE LEGAL AND HEALTH WARNINGS and even tried to reupload SOMEONE ELSE'S VIDEO to keep the cash rolling in. Yet the follow up video, showed no receipts but an apology for not having shit and being unprepared and uneducated. So , ok you’re a lier and 2). Why delete all the postings and blocking those that tried to educate he? She’s the worst. Not credited and shady flaky as shit. If you’re pregnant and eating food from random people on TikTok, I think there is your doctors first clear sign you shouldn’t have kids. They tell you not to even eat fish or coffee, but idiots also risk that, along with placenta ruptures, going on water slides.
Fish, yeah, don't eat that while you're pregnant, but you can have coffee in moderation. Especially if your body is used to it. Cut down on it and don't drink too much, but I've heard from a lot of women that their doctors okay'd it in moderation. Obviously, you never can tell where fish has come from, and the risk about fish is different than coffee. Bacterial contamination vs too much caffeine. Cut down on coffee, but don't risk fish. Just do what is suggested for you. Everybody is different. Listen to your drs and do what they think is best with knowing you. Also, yeah, only stupid people go on water slides while pregnant. That's like an obvious nono. You really only can do a lot of sports if your body is already acclimated and used to it. In fact, if you're an athlete they highly suggest that you do continue physical activity. Obviously be cautious and going on a fucking water slide is an obvious do not. Like, just wait 9 months or a little more and you'll be good to keep doing fun stuff. It's a matter of your child's life or death. I think you can wait 9 months, Sharon. Though, yeah, I don't quite understand why you would order pickled shit online. You obviously never know just how lax they are on contamination and canning seals. There are edible things you can order online from reputable establishments that taste just the same if not better and guess what? Don't cause you to get sick and die. Yeah, supporting small businesses are important, but uh, not at the risk of your health. Human stupidity is the leading cause in death. That's a fact that's probably written somewhere.
@@tabortoothtiger7580 you can have fish pregnant too. They used to say not to due to high mercury levels in fish like tuna, shark, and swordfish but that really is more of an issue of the past. Or at least that's what my OB said. Salmon is actually super healthy in pregnancy. It's a low mercury fish and high in omega 3s and DHA. Also pregnant people can drink coffee they are just supposed to limit there caffeine levels to less than 200 a day which means they can drink ones to two cups.

She should have taken a bit more time and done it all properly than rushing and ,cutting corners, She might have lost a few people by making people wait, but better that than potentially poisoning people and ending up sued!!
@@JACpotatos She shouldn't have a fan base after the way she acted, but that's entirely independent of how much actual risk there was in her product. Ann Reardon debunked the majority of accusations. No milk product, no mayo, no re-used containers (the supposed 'mayo containers' after the first disastrous batch are just a cheap mass produced style of condiment container). It's actually a pretty interesting video, as compared to the 1000's of videos repeating the same false accusations by the likes of MatPat.
I once got salmonella poisoning and it was horrible. Was in the hospital for over a week. Lasting affects to name one , a big one, is reactive arthritis which is affectively rheumatoid arthritis. I’ve suffered from arthritis now since 04 and I’m only 49 but of course much younger when I was diagnosed. Since then I have been extremely careful of what I eat and I would never eat something from some random person off tiktok or any other place that wasn’t a known name brand of food. The botulism and other things they mention are much worse than what I experienced. So people please don’t eat foods like this. Your health is extremely important and once you get sick there’s no telling what else may be a side affect.
the funniest part is that people actually bought this stuff. I guarantee it would be cheaper, quicker, and taste better if done in your own home, plus if done at your own home you can easily update the recipe to what you want. it's not like you're making an actual pickle which takes weeks, you're pickling vegetables which takes a few days
Yeah but even at that it's illegal to sell canned goods from home in the state of California, so someone would've caught on to it eventually. It's better for her and everyone else that it happened now rather than further down the line where she could be facing major fines, or worse if someone got sick.
Why was the guys apology for promoting the pickles the best apology I’ve ever heard online?! 😂 glad he decided to speak up about it to try and protect his followers who saw his other video.
I love pickled anything! Eggs, veggies, sausages and spicy cucumber pickles themselves. That being said, although I’m sure her intentions weren’t sinister, I’d be leery buying ANY homemade food product from Etsy or elsewhere that wasn’t a licensed food service. I wish anyone well in their small business endeavors, who doesn’t love a good success story.. but when ppl are advising you that something might be potentially wrong with your production and you merely block ppl and ignore it rather than investigating those claims then it starts to look like greed rather than the well being of your customers or rightfully backing your product bc you followed every protocol.. just saying. 🤷🏻♀️ Let me just add, her apology seemed sincere and I hope she’ll be able to get back on track.
Her home made products is probably just for the community like the pink sauce lady. When it blew up, people all over the place is now ordering which is now the problem. You know, transportation, the heat, time needed for delivery those things can accumulate germs and bacteria pretty much. I think if she only "kind of" privated her sales like, "for this area only," there wouldn't have problems. Both for this gal and the pink sauce lady. Why am I saying this? Here in Ph, we also have a lot of home made products from raw meat to customized cake. However, most of the things that are REALLY home made are sold within the community only. No transportation required, just simple meet up face to face because the seller is like one or two streets away. The "possibilty" of this being contaminated is low unless the preparation and cooking itself is contaminated. TLDR I think her sales just suddenly blew up overnight and she got over excited from the rush of order. Therefore, she wasn't able to think if she's prepared for that kind of success. The good thing is she took accountability and in a better situation right now.
@@konaqua122 Nah this is not a case of someone that only made stuff for her local community. She's been selling her pickled foods for several YEARS on Etsy. Which means she's for several years she has been selling and shipping at least nationally within the US. I really can't understand people that open up a business online (selling food especially) and not research into proper safety guidelines, precautions, and legality dictating the selling of such goods.
duuude 4:19 that's how you make a serious and heart-felt apology that isn't shifting any blame and is completely transparent. I don't know this dude at all, but based on this one clip, I like him already.
I find stuff like this so fascinating. Particularly the part where she immediately responded by saying she had proper licenses, which was a lie. As much as we chastise her for that being such a poor decision, I almost feel like it’s human nature in a way? I’m sure there are people out there with excellent integrity and humility but I feel like a LOT of people when faced with thousands of hate messages would feel that shame, embarrassment, anger and jump to being defensive. A lot of us react to being called out (even in personal situations) by being defensive. Then later we (hopefully) realize we were wrong and regret our initial reaction. It takes a mature, self aware person to be able to immediately handle things correctly. It is incredibly difficult to go through massive amounts of online hate and many of us will never know what that feels like. That said, this should be a serious lesson to people to STOP and get in a logical headspace before immediately jumping to defend yourself out of emotion. To clarify, I am not defending her at all, she is an idiot even if it was just naivety and potentially harming people, that’s serious. I just find influencer culture, internet culture, and reactions to massive amounts of hate super interesting. People will literally get on and LIE out of emotion, even if logically they know it’s not the right thing to do. And then often deeply regret it… had she put out that second video first being humble, admitting fault and ignorance instead of lying initially, she could have maybe saved her business.
How is it that these full grown adults have less credibility, decency and knowledge than me when I was in middle school and my biggest problem in life was getting my crush to notice me.....
We use to have an FDA that worked to protect the American people!!! Every State has laws to prevent food from being made & sold from your home kitchen!!
Amazing how history repeats itself, but part of me thinks that because tiktok is so broad and so many people "blow up" on it makes me think that maybe she legit wasn't aware of pink sauce. I hadn't heard of pink sauce until you covered it. There's so many niche sub sections on tiktok that harbors these dramatic and dangerous acts, like improper goods handling. It's massive and insane. Part of me thinks she genuinely doesn't know, but another part is like wow, how are you being so ignorant??
It makes sense she might not know...because how many people are on tik tok, 10 million followers is still less than just 1% of their users. So you are correct she could easily have never heard of pink sauce.
the guy that promoted her has one of the best influencer apologies ever. Right to the point, taking responsibility, taking down his video, no crying. No over dramatic emotions (def could feel his anger though).

As a professional chef, as in I'm employed and hired based on my experience and resume, seeing these TokChefs fail is humourous, but also as a food professional, my biggest nightmare is hurting someone. Botulism is DEADLY.
Baby I have the same fear as a regular person. Idc if I make myself sick but I take extra caution when I’m cooking for family and friends.
I preserve food by canning. Botulism is effing scary! Better to overcook in the canner than risk it.
As someone (among seemingly few) who's had it, it ain't fun. Felt like someone was sitting on my chest for a week and half, also got really hard to talk about halfway through.
Botulism doesn’t grow in an acidic ph though right? Canning and pickling are two different things.

@FyreFly08 true, some things are 1000x riskier than others. Meats, carbohydrates, acidic stuff like tomatoes and other stuff I’m not an expert on. But pickles are arguably the safest things to can.

To make "cottage foods" you almost have to have an entire separate kitchen, all utensils, appliances, equipment must ONLY be used for your business purposes. The space itself, kids can not be present during production and No animals/pets, Ever in the area. All states are different and some require you to have an inspection by a health officer.

People buy food on Etsy??
I scroll Etsy alot and I also had this question lmfao
I’ve bought tea off of Etsy, but from a seller I’d met in person at a fair and who had an established customer base that vouched for the safety and quality of her products. I would never buy anything else food-related off of there. People buy all sorts of stuff that you can’t verify the safety of.

I’m still hung up on the fact that she sold pickles on Etsy! I thought that was meant for handmade knickknacks and fan stuff- not FOOD!
Etsy has some weird shops- I saw one selling all kinds of dehydrated fruit & plant powders lol And there’s a whole bunch of “artisanal” soap & beauty brands that you can’t guarantee the quality of.
As much as I prefer to support small businesses over big box stores, Etsy’s just a storefront & has no quality control over those shops.
I've bought pre-workout on Etsy, it's like the internet's flea market compared to eBay, the internet's back alley
There's everything on etsy. Ive come across all kinds of weird stuff when looking for Movie props and sculptures. I even found this creepy shop with leather dog masks, furry costumes, and adult toys shaped as real animal and mythical animal dcks(there was tons of reviews and these things are ridiculously huge and should never fit inside in anyone 🤮 ) There was also this ultra hardcore bdsm shop that had this latex thing a person is supposed to lay in and there's a vacuum port to suck all the air out while your inside it so the latex forms to you and suffocates you. The only reason I knew what it was because they had a picture of it in action.
Just the other day I found real salmon fillets on Etsy when trying to search up Splatoon merch. Me and my friend the entire time searching through the shop kept saying "This doesn't seem legal".
Etsy is only bested by Ebay for weird legal loophole items for sale.
etsy has had official categories dedicated to food for years.

The FDA exist for a reason.
In my opinion I don't buy her apology at all, and it just sounded like all she got was "hate" for it when that wasn't the reason at all, and she was just making excuses.
Right
She literally said in the prior video she had all the receipts, a food handler’s license( which by the way in this case is really unwarranted since that’s not the issue) , but then gave goes and makes a follow up video, after she said, she had all the canning license , food license , etc. & that she’d show us that proof on a following Monday.
That's a fact that's probably written somewhere.

the funniest part is that people actually bought this stuff. I guarantee it would be cheaper, quicker, and taste better if done in your own home, plus if done at your own home you can easily update the recipe to what you want. it's not like you're making an actual pickle which takes weeks, you're pickling vegetables which takes a few days
What's weird is if she just sealed it properly she would have made so much money from the free promotions

She's been selling her pickled foods for several YEARS on Etsy. duuude 4:19 that's how you make a serious and heart-felt apology that isn't shifting any blame and is completely transparent.
