    Stay clean wherever your adventure takes you. Learn how to build your own ‘solar’ camp shower for your car.
    Tools:
    Hacksaw
    Drill with 1/8″, 3/4″ and 3/8″ bits
    Marker
    Materials:
    One 10′ length of 4″ Schedule 40 ABS pipe (this will depend on how much water you want the shower to hold)

    4″ ABS cleanout cap for T-joint
    One 1/2″ brass locknut

    One error I noticed in the construction is when glueing don't just push fittings together, give the fitting a twist after pushing on ,to make a perfect fit, other wise you won't get a good seal.

      Actually the twisting causes the plastic to melt from the glue.

    • @motleypixel
      @motleypixel 3 года назад +19

      @@littlenel17 if I recall correctly I've read on the label/instructions 1/4 twist, this distributes the PVC glue more evenly/completely. So, the OP is correct in his observation noticing the error. Also, mechanical twisting/moving doesn't melt anything (unless you were able to twist it at 3000 rpm as the friction would certainly melt the plastic), it's a chemical reaction (exothermic) that bonds to the fittings.

    I got a weed sprayer from Home Depot and put a shrader valve in it. And replaced the spray wand with a kitchen sink sprayer. 2 gallons is 16 lbs. easy to carry to a faucet and fill it. Then put it on roof rack to warm up. Painted it black. Total cost was under $30 usd. Took about 20 minutes to build it. I shower with it wearing my swimming trunks, totally legal.

      I used to put an old gallon milk container - sans black paint - on the roof of my car while I was out doing whatever and by the time I got done doing whatever, the water was plenty hot. No hose meant it was a quick shower, but it was awesome. I'm going to build one of these.

      Typically one gallon of water is 8lbs. You can check google to enter in pipe dimensions to get your inside volume. A 4” pipe at 6’ will hold 4 gallons.

    I'm really confused with these videos. Is it really that safe to just put the pipe on with straps, what happens when you drive, does it not move back and forward when it's say, half full? I'm worried about installing this on my car and the pipe going theough someone's back window when I brake or going down a hill??

    • @Z71X4
      @Z71X4 6 месяцев назад

      If it's not tight enough it can slide, if it slides, it won't slide out because it's not completely flat. Its different parts connected so the strap will stop when it hits one of the slits.

    I've just built one of these, and the screw-on filler cap is not sealed and therefore leaks air as soon as I try to pressurize it. I got a cap with a nylon gasket, tightened it with a wrench, and even that didn't withstand anything over 10psi. If anyone knows a) what I'm doing wrong, or b) a workaround for this, I would love to hear it.

      @@Bluecollarham it doesn't matter that it leaks? water will be slowly draining, which is exactly what you don't want - to be wasting water. lots of folks who build these are doing overland, so that small leak will let a considerable amount of water go, on top of the fact that you can't just fill up right before you shower bc the time from when you leave base or a water source and use the shower can also be considerable. you try to build things to high efficiency so overcome those types of obstacles.
