- Nurse practitioners are on the rise, if you haven't seen! This video is all about nurse practitioner salary, specifically, how one can make $30,000 or more in a single month. This doesn't happen every month for me, however, with the right gigs, $30,000 per month is possible. How much does a nurse practitioner make? This video will go in depth and describe that just for you. Here, I talk about working conditions in remote Alaska (where I make the big bucks), and differing side gigs available.

@@LovelyyAubrey Psych Nursing is amazing! If you love psych. There is a danger involved in that you can be attacked. Most code violets are on the psych floor. I would say give it a try. If you love it - great. If not - do something else. Because if you don’t like psych you will burn out easily.

Thank you so much for this video. I am in the process of a major career change, which is very scary, and this is what I want my end result to be. I start nursing school in January 2020. I am in my mid 40's and have contemplated nursing for many years. I know a few NPs and they love what they do. I am very interested in traveling. Listening to your videos help keep me focused with my eyes on my target. I have a bachelor's which I am told could assist in an expedited graduate degree in nursing. Thanks for the video, super informative! Does your agency handle the licensing process for you for each state, and what states would you say are high yield to get your license in? Also do you work for multiple agencies, if so how many and do you recommend any to work for or vise versa?

I did RN work in remote Alaska and this is a helpful video, however this is not entirely the picture. There is a limited availability of fresh foods and to fly or go by ferry to the nearest town is VERY expensive. Food is VERY expensive and the quality of your vegetables is, wilted. There is also nor a whole lot to do unless you really like hiking and exploring the nature, however there are BEARS. If you work in the ER in a remote area you had better know what the hell you are doing as you are the only one there until the flights come in.
Yup you’re right. I feel like this video is true to what I have personally experienced in remote Alaska. I appreciate your insight though. There are bears everywhere I’ve been. And yes- any clinician anywhere needs to know what they are doing to competently treat a patient. Even more so in Alaska when you’re solo. Not a place for new grads.
Yeah but you also have to take in mind that this is the greater picture. It happened to YOU out of the hundreds and thousands of travel nurses

That is awesome! Funny story-- one of the NPs I ran across in a small Alaska town was actually getting his PhD in anthropology. He went to work in Alaska so he could do his research/dissertation regarding something about the native community he was working in. I thought that was pretty cool!

Im a Physical Rehab Nurse and Im leaning towards PHMNP but looking at FNP too! I have some medsurge experience from a LTC and Rehab, but it's limited! I have never done IV drips, dont have my ACLS, and never been in the ICU or ER as a RN! What is your thoughts on me being an regular NP?
I have similar nursing experience, although I have worked acute care for about 2 years in total. I am currently in an FNP program now. Your current experiences provides more of a knowledge base than you think. What you have is a great stepping stone for FNP, especially LTC!
PA-C here. I appreciate your work ethic and free spirit of travel. I am currently between jobs and have been offered a great travel job, but it's a 3 month contract over the holidays. I am chickening out, but I probably should just jump. My family pulls at my heart-strings. I recently met someone else who was making $300-$400k/yr (about $30k/mo) as a PA in ER and UC... but he was definitely burning the candle at both ends and struggling to keep the level of income, little sleep.

Hey Sara! Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting! I would recommend having good experience as a NP in a large teaching hospital/somewhere you can see a wide range of pathology and learn. I would also recommend having the AHA certs (BLS, PALS, ACLS). I would recommend getting ATLS (advanced trauma life support)- trauma course. And I would recommend getting ALSO or BLSO for labor and delivery emergencies (if you aren't comfortable delivering a baby). Hope this helps!

I'm about to graduate as an FNP this year. What tips do you have for me if I want to pursue ENP cert? Should I attempt to find on the job training at an ER or pursue a post masters certification for ENP. I have no experience in the ER setting now, but I am considering getting some RN experience in the ER as I finish up my FNP program....

Hi! Yes- thank you for watching. Tintinalli's is the standard textbook for emergency medicine. Something good to start out with for sure.
Are you acute care certified or family practice? This sounds like something I might be interested in down the road. My RN experience is neuroscience. Would you recommend ER experience as a new grad NP or PCP clinic or specialty experience in order to pursue travel NP?
I have acute care and family. I recommend Er experience if you want to do this sort of traveling.
To get into Emegency Medicine, would you be able to be a FNP? or would you need to do AGACNP? I like the idea of FNP for the pediatric portion, but emergency room is my end goal. I'm currently a Critical care paramedic, and a flight paramedic, doing the bridge to RN with the goal of NP at some point. Thank you!
Great question! FNP is probably most common, but you will need to pick up the critical care training. The best option (not as common), is to attend an emergency NP program. (UT houston, Emory etc).
I have a friend PA in Alaska who makes 250-400k year cause no MDs over there working. Very few.
David, how do i get into the ER or Urgent care as a new FNP with no experience? Should i get my ENP post master's?
It’s a tough market to get in without experience. Be willing to move wherever an opportunity arises. Be willing to move to small town America.

About 25. However, I was on call 24/7.

David, or anyone else, what is the NP situation in Oregon/Washington? I'm moving next year but compared to my current state, I seem to see a very small number of NP positions available. When searching provider directories and such I find the same, very few NPs. Granted, I'm looking at larger inpatient facilities, but still, not seeing the numbers I would expect. Is the NP scene in PNW relegated towards rural facilities, or is there some saturation of positions going on?
Interesting question. I’ve tried to find some positions in Oregon and Washington, and haven’t had much luck. I have a good friend who is a nurse practitioner in the ER in Washington, and he is one of the first nurse practitioners the ER group has hired. It seems to be a less evolved role in the PNW unfortunately.

Tim Krueger I am based out of Texas. I mainly work in California, Texas, and Alaska. The only way to Alaska via Texas is through Seattle! I would love to find some work in that area, but I haven’t had much luck over about a 3 yr time span!

Hey, thanks for the info! I am currently a RN and in ARNP school. I have a small Nurse delegation business. I guess some state have more restrictions for APRNs? Some physicians get paid to provide delegation for them to practice! Super strange!! What state are you from?
Yes. Restrictions vary by state. I am from Texas. It is a pretty heavily supervised and restricted state. This video was from Alaska, and they are independent practice.

I’m from Washington State, thankfully it’s a full practice state. I just learned about the restrictions that are being placed on NPs. Have the restrictions effected your practice ability much?
@@jilllandry9839 Yes, Texas is a restricted state as most Southern states are. It can affect practice IF you are attempting to go into private practice or possibly if you are a new grad needing a collaborator. I gained multiple licenses so that I can work in FPA states from my restricted states.

Hi! I really don’t know much about that- I would think it’s not possible, because the NP profession is not as developed/advanced in other non US countries as it is in the US. Possible though? I don’t really know to be honest.

I go through the market for private health insurance. I use blue cross.

Good question- I can speak from experience. I had two years of experience when I started. Looking back, I was pretty clueless. Still had a lot of learning to do. However, I think it’s possible to do. I think no less than two years for sure. It really depends on the comfort of the person, and their skill set and resources etc. 2 years would be the very minimum honestly.

Yes! You can hold as many specialty certifications as you want.

Im on the fence with Barton associates and MPLT. Have you heard of these? Those are the only two agencies I am talking to. Hesitating.
Stay away from Barton. They really lowball and underpay. I have never worked with him, but I have heard bad things. Just do your due diligence. I’ve worked with comphealth and they are fine. For Barton- if you can get them not to lowball you, you would probably be fine. Just don’t accept an unreasonable offer.

As far as I am aware- the ENP cert is only for FNPs at this particular time.

I’ve worked with comphealth and wilderness medical staffing- both are great. It’s more about your recruiter than a company. Get a good recruiter who helps you.

It’s true. My wife made 28,000 in a month as a registered nurse! I’ve tried to get her in traveling as a np but she won’t..... she has almost 4 years now as a np... she only makes 96k a year! We could be pulling 150 to 200k just with her income traveling.

When working in Alaska- I’m virtually on call 24/7 at times. Although I average 5-7 patients in that period. So it’s not awful.

@@RedFaceeee Good question- you can find ample employment in most rural areas. It is harder to find employment in metro areas. There are exceptions, but this has generally been the theme over the last few years.

Thank God I finally passed my NP test on my 3rd attempt with the help of Mr DAVID, I used his preparation tips. just 3 days of working with him and I passed. I was referred to him by a friend before my exams. Please friends I recommend you to mr DAVID. The man has the key to getting your exam.
