Hey so I’m a dermatology NP and I’m paid a percentage of what I bring into the practice. So is a normal month I bring in 70-110K per month for the clinic. So I get 30% of that. So if o make 100K for the practice I get 30K that month. Not all months are the same and I’ve had some bad months to. The only way this works is because we have multiple MA’s that are also our scribes. So it’s easy to see 40-50 patients in 1 day.
are you doing mostly cosmetic services? I am currently in FNP school and planning to go into dermatology, I would be interested in how you bring in these much patients.
You have the gift of bringing freshness and enthusiasm to our NP profession. It is much needed! Love watching your videos sharing your golden nuggets. I used to be a traveler ICU nurse. Since becoming an FNP, I have been roaming in the Urgent Care setting. Like you, I hate getting tangled with Walmart Plastic bags loaded with medications from primary care patients. At my age, the ER setting is a bit much I can swallow, I know the pace. Perhaps one of these days I will explore some sort of Wilderness travel NP. Keep up the good work and bringing your freshness to youtube!
It blows my mind how underpaid so many positions in the medical field are considering how important your guys' jobs are. Seriously. I have have great respect for all of you. I worked in the ER as a tech for 5 years. Left 8 years ago and ended up moving into management at a financial institution. I'm currently a global project management team manager in the Midwest and make 102k. I do not have a college degree. Honestly I feel I am overpaid. It makes no sense that I make a competitive rate compared to what you describe here and I have a fraction of the impact you do on the world.
Thank you for this great video. I hope you’ll post more because they are very insightful and informative. I have one year left in my psych NP program in Northern New Jersey, and it’s great to be able to know what to expect once I get out there and start my career.
Appreciate the content/info! I've always been wishy washy with if I should take the leap for NP so I'm always watching vids on everyone's thoughts and experience with it haha
Will you do a video comparing a NP to a PA?And how fast you can become an NP, like all about an RN to NP bridge program. Thanks for all your tips and advice hope you read this!
RN to NP bridge is not necessarily something to promote. The big reason for the negative stigma around NP’s is for reasons like ☝🏾. NP’s are usually sought out because they’ve had X amount of years in a field. When you cut down the experience + online education from a no name school= inadequacy. - *This is not true about everyone*- BUT This is what it is turning into and the people we care for suffer. I’m a nurse myself and mean no disrespect. You’re channel is awesome. I think as a nursing community we need to earn our respect back. That means recognizing the difference between a Medical Doctor and Doctor of Nursing Practice. Know your limitations. You didn’t go to school for 8+ years. Instead you worked and had hands on experience for 8+ years. Hands on experience is a lot more than a book can teach you. That is to our advantage. We need to utilize that. Bottom line you can’t be a personable/effective provider without going through the trenches first. Bedside nursing if your a nurse or getting a solid base in the medical field prior to medical school. There are no short cuts in medicine. If you want to call yourself a Doctor Go to Medical School. Don’t ruin it for those who put the time in.
Psych NPs as new grads start at $150K+ in Southern California market. Some of my friends are $200K+ as a new grad if you start at private practice. It's all about networking and selling yourself in the best way you can to your company.
I’m not a psych np so I wouldn’t say I’m in the know about it. I get random emails sent out by locums companies, but that’s the extent of my knowledge.
Hi! Thanks for watching. I think the DNP degree can be beneficial- depending on where you see your career going. I feel like I have a lot of doors already open, and I don’t personally think it would benefit me a whole lot right now. The cost/benefit ratio just doesn’t make sense to me. My background before becoming a NP was level 1 pediatric/adult ER/trauma.
My NP friend makes $12,000 a month + trauma surgery pay and bonuses. She works for a surgical physician group in spokane WA. Thanks your this video! Btw what agency did you work with for your travel positions?
Loved this video. I just got accepted into a Primary Care NP post-masters program to start in the fall and live outside Philadelphia. I have experience in home care, ICU, cardiac/EP Lab. I am 47 years old and trying to decide if it's worth it to go. I keep hearing the market is saturated etc and that it's a bad idea to go. From the research I have done, I don't think that is the case. Do you think the market is becoming saturated? This program will be just shy of 2 years since I already have MSN. I believe even with being 47, I can still have a good return on my investment to go..as long as there will be jobs at that point. Not finding jobs with my MSN that interest me and feel my experience will serve me will as a NP.
Thanks!!! Going in, I knew traveling wouldn’t be a full-time thing. I was really in no rush to settle down, but a full-time opportunity kind of fell in my lap, and it was too good to pass up! Traveling will always be there. I can go back if I don’t like what happens with my my full-time gig. That’s the beauty of being a NP 😁
Im a Physical Rehab Nurse and Im leaning towards PHMNP but looking at FNP too! I have some medsurge experience from a LTC and Rehab, but it's limited! I have never done IV drips, dont have my ACLS, and never been in the ICU or ER as a RN! What is your thoughts on me being an regular NP?
Question, ive seen and heard about how NPs arent always respected (in the community and in hospitals) like PAs and MDs are whats your experience with that. Btw great vid
I was wondering if you new anything about Neonatal Nurse Practitioner pay- I’ve also seen that they’re one of the highest paid speciality NPs. However, it seems like there’s not a ton of info out there on their pay.
Yeah that’s a good point! I have a friend from grad school who is a NNP in Alabama. I don’t personally know anyone around here who is a NNP though! It would be interesting to connect with someone who practices in that area to get the scoop though!
Have you worked with acute care NPs in the ED? I am in the AGACNP program now and seeing how hard the NPs work the pay seems insanely low. I have thought about doing a post-masters FNP somewhere that will set up my clinicals as well.
I have a question. Let's say you have your FNP and ENP certification. After gaining experience in these settings, will these two certification allow you to work in different specialties like ICU, Trauma, or Cardiology? I'm also curious how much Trauma NP's make.
Alex Mena You will have the ability to work in those different settings, but you will also need to keep up with continuing education for both certifications which can be challenging for some.
Depends on the specialty- general surgery will probably be around 100k. I interviewed for a trauma surgery position about a year ago, and they offered 140k. That’s probably the upper limits.

Good to hear from you and thanks for watching!

Is your company hiring? Hehe jk

15 years of experience in wound care. Make $125k -$145k, but only work 30 hours per week. I’m in the Midwest. 🙌🏻

Cool vid. NPs in my state in Australia make roughly $130k-$136k as base. It goes up if you do nights, weekends, holidays, etc
Australia!! That is so cool! Thanks for watching! Would love to hear how healthcare is in Australia.
wow er np making 170-200k per year?! i know psych np has it good but definitely challenging
Yes- it really really depends on where you are in the US though...
That is probably the single biggest factor.
@@DavidWarrenNP I live in Northern New Jersey and I see rates advertised on indeed.com for psych NP anywhere from $80-$125 per hour.

I went to University of Texas! It was my first degree.
Did you do a fellowship after becoming a FNP or did you do a program to become a ENP
Hi! Thanks for watching. I did an emergency medicine fellowship after I graduated. This prepared me for work in emergency medicine.
what age were when you start working as a nurse practitioner?
I was 25.

Definitely a needed area. I don’t personally know anyone who works in women’s health, so I don’t have a whole lot of data to go off of.

No. Locums is not a good idea for a new grad. You really need some good experience before doing locums. Most places require 2-5 years.

For sure- that is absolutely the plan!
