Hopkins is almost borderline insane. You have to be to perform on that level. Or was this just practice for a bigger role down the line, namely Lector. This film has a great film score by the late Jerry Goldsmith, and also some incredible mood lighting by Victor J Kemperer.
This performance is far better than that of Lecter.
It’s almost ridiculous how much top-tier talent went into an “evil ventriloquist’s dummy” picture.
@@ribonucleic Indeed - boasting Richard 'Dickie' Attenborough as director an all!!
I could do a better job. Hands down
It's said that there's a thin line between genius and insanity...
Wow, Anthony Hopkins was young once.
I was 11 years old when this came out and it terrified me every night for over a year I'm ashamed to admit. Scariest movie of all time for me. I'm 53 and it still gets under my skin
nothing to be ashamed of
Vince, I would say this is in the top 5 horror films of the 1970s - Exorcist and Salem’s Lot right in there too.
_"There's that ole bugga boo of yours again, lack of confidence!"_
Masterful performance from Hopkins. A superb depiction of a neurotic individuals descent into
full blown psychosis.
0:22 this the part where you remember exactly whose in control.
If this is all in his mind how is it that once he put fat down fat were still able to look around the room ?
Its magic
It was a technical mistake that the once the scene was over and cuts to Anthony Hopkins standing before the ventriloquist that made and operates Fats in this movie knealing or hunched over operating him in this scene realized it in the dailies the following day and told The director (Richard Attenborough) that it was a slip and wouldn't make sense in how Fats been presented through out, but Attenborough kept it in and it's the only scene that stands out in a neat creative choice.
We're seeing it through Corky's fractured perspective. He's losing control.
@@fynnthefox9078 that's how I saw it. Corky thinks Fats is moving w/o him, but it's just in Corky's head.
This scenes really well done.
QUE BUENA PELICULA , estas joyas deberían estar en televisión en vez de las mugrosas telenovelas turcas
Los sábados a media tarde, hace bien un poco de terror con este excelente actor
AMAZING acting from Sir Hopkins!
The future Hannibal Lecter!
I’m surprised how much this still had an impact on me. I was skeptical because of how old it is even with Anthony Hopkins involved I didn’t think it can touch a nerve but my god it did and I’m so glad for it. Definitely an underrated classic.
I once had a nightnare about a ventriloquist dummy when I was tiny
A set of bunk beds were in the middle of a white void and sat in the bottom bunk was a man while in the epper bunk was sat a dummy who was reading the man a story
"Did you enjoy that?" He said. "Was it nice?"
Then, the dummy climbed down to the man and ate him
😮
Muy bueno
Very sad. 😭
So good it's scary
That's worse than being married.
Creepy shit
He is so hot
I can see that.
@@ricardocantoral7672 I TAKE IT BACK BRO 😭💀
@MyIneffablePonyyy why though
I love Hopkins' accent as Fats. _"Wow I really stepped on a corn that time!"_
Everyone says fats is not real 😬 and that you are just messing with us, really are you sure 😳 a true masterpiece
At :24 seconds, is someone hiding behind a hole in the couch putting their hand through the hole operating Fats"s eyes??? Tony/Corky is obviously not controlling his eyes to move....must be someone behind the coach putting their hand through a hole in the coach to operate Fats from behind....
The director commentary said that when Anthony Hopkins put down the puppet. It just so happened by accident that the puppet eyes moved. They kept it in the film because they thought it made the film creepier.
Not, Fat's the dummy is actually alive and living at the back of your closet.
