  • Since I could only find the Original French Concept version of this song on youtube, I figured I may as well upload the version from the 1991 Paris Revival for anyone else looking for it.
    Vous me protégerez
    Blottie sur votre coeur
La pluie fera pousser les fleurs
    MARIUS:
    Mais tu vas vivre, Ponine
    Regarde-moi
    L'amour saura refermer
    Ta blessure
    ÉPONINE:
    Abritez-moi, réchauffez-moi
Je vais mieux dans vos bras
    MARIUS:
    Tu vivras jusqu'à cent ans
    Si tu me laisses t'apprendre
    Si tu veux bien m'entendre...
    ÉPONINE:
    Dernières gouttes de pluie
Vous êtes le printemps qui revient
    Vous me protégerez
    Très fort serrée, tout près
    Dormir entre vos bras, enfin
    Que soit bénie la pluie
    Qui vous ramène
    Je me sens bien
    Mais d'où vient cette lumière?
Un souffle à peine qui nous sépare
    Il n'était pas trop tard
    ÉPONINE:
    Non, ce n'est rien, monsieur
    MARIUS:
    Dors en paix, chère Éponine
    ÉPONINE:
Je ne sens plus la douleur
    MARIUS:
Tu ne sens plus la douleur
    ÉPONINE:
Un peu de sang qui pleure
    MARIUS:
Un peu de sang qui pleure
    ÉPONINE:
    Quelques gouttes de pluie
    MARIUS:
    Quelques gouttes de pluie
    MARIUS:
    Vous me protégerez
    MARIUS:
    J'attendrai là
    ÉPONINE:
    Blottie sur votre coeur
    MARIUS:
    Que tu t'endormes
    ÉPONINE:
    La pluie
    MARIUS:
    La pluie
    ÉPONINE:
    Fera pousser...
    MARIUS:
    Fera pousser...

Thanks very much for the French lyrics with the songs. I've been trying to find these for all the songs, with very little success. A great format, and thanks again.

    Translation:
Eponine: Do not fret, Monsieur Marius,
    I don't feel any pain.
    A small crying of blood,
And a little fall of rain,
    It is you!
That is all that matters to me now,
And you will keep me safe
    Clutched close to your heart,
And rain will make the flowers bloom.
Marius: But you will live, 'Ponine.
    Look at me,
    If only love could heal
    And close your open wounds.
Eponine: Just hold me and warm me up,
I feel better in your arms.
Marius: But you will live a hundred years,
If I could teach you how,
    If only you would listen...
Eponine: The last drops of rain
Give way to the spring that returns,
    You will protect me,
Keep me close and keep me tight,
And I will finally sleep in your arms.
    May the rain be blessed
    That brings you back,
    I feel good,
    But whence comes the light?
    A breath barely separates us.
    It is not too late.
    It is nothing, Monsieur Marius
Marius: Sleep in peace, dear Eponine.
Eponine: I don't feel any pain
Marius: You don't feel any pain.
Both: A small crying of blood
    A little fall of rain.
    Marius: 'Tis I.
Eponine: That is all that matters now.
    You will protect me
    Marius: I will wait here.
    Eponine: Snuggled to your heart.
    Marius: Till you fall asleep
Both: The rain will grow the flowers.

I don't have all of the songs, but I have a few. I'm planning to get the rest. Found them on I-tunes and was the happiest person alive. I've uploaded about five of them, and still have two more that I'm planning to upload soon.

A little blood that cries? Le sang peut couler. Il peut saigner. Mais pleurer? Éclairez-moi s’il vous plaît.

    • @ElenaChan

      it's a metaphor ;)

    • @jvillar12
      @jvillar12 6 лет назад +1

Thank you, Elena. :) Are you French? I wonder if the word pleurer has connotations in French that are different than "to cry" or "to weep" in English. Eponine's lines (in the original concept version) are (1) Ce n'est rien Monsieur Marius, (2) qu'un peu de sang qui pleur, (3) dernier chagrin de pluie (4) aux couleurs de la mort... I have learned that in French some of the meanings of pleurer are for things that are pretty minor: J'ai les yeux qui pleurent (My eyes are watering, e.g., from cutting onions) or L'arbre pleure de la sève (the tree is bleeding sap). Such a connotation would fit well with line 1, where Eponine is minimizing the gravity of the situation. Lines 1 & 2 would fit quite well together if line 2 could be interpreted in this minimizing sense. But also, we weep when we are grieved, so line 2 and 3 (in line 3, chagrin = grief or heartache) would go very well together if line 2 could be interpreted there more seriously. In other words, the choice of pleurer, a word that can transform itself from one meaning to the other, would seem very clever here, but only if I am not dreaming this up in a language that I still struggle to speak. Would a native French speaker, listening to these lines, have this double meaning in his or her head? (To weep in English can have a similar meaning -- a cut branch of a tree can weep sap -- but this is such a rare usage that a native English speaker could not be relied upon to pull it instantly to mind. This may be why in the English version, these lines, instead of being translated literally, become "Don't you fret Monsieur Marius. I don't feel any pain. A little fall of rain can hardly hurt me now.")

I'm very late to answer, but here I go.
Un peu de sang qui pleure is Indeed a poetic way to minimize the reality.
In French pleurer would be understood as "to flow slowly, without pain, panic and with a romantic feel" in this sentence. She's dying with a romantic emotion and the whole song is summed up in one word. This is French lyrics at the highest ! (and i'm pretty hard at judging French lyrics.)

Yes, the French original was downright sorrowful and hurting. There was no mention of "flowers growing". Eponine died saying that she would miss the wedding and that her heart had never served anyone:( This newer French version seems to be a translation of the more popular English lyrics.
