  • Been eying up Great Gable for a couple of years now and intended tagging it onto a ride last year but didn't have the legs to do it. Been around it so many times on the infamous 4 passes loop but not been up it even walking so not sure of the terrain and that was my objective today. I wanted to do the descent to Sty Head and don't like going up and down the same track so attacked it from a different angle
Having done the Sty Head to Stockley Bridge descent a few months ago decided to tag Grains Gill on to it (legs permitting) which is more technical
The descent I chose down to the Ennerdale Valley was a bit too steep and difficult to enjoy so that's one for the memory bank
All in all it was a ride of extreme ups and downs and would certainly not take an Ebike this way due to the very steep hike-a-bike. Pushing up the decent would definitely be the preferred option if you feel like you need to do it like I did 👌

Sketchy and hard work. I can see why you rode it alone - my mates are a bit more sensible than me also. What a beautiful ride.

Thanks for your comment, I have ridden in big groups and now..... I'll ride with anybody silly enough to do this kind of stuff 👌

You are the most hard core MTBer I've ever watched. Including the Yanks. Fair play to you.

Cheers pal, don't think I'm in the same league as some I've seen. Different kind of riding to US/Canada but I'll take your comments 👍🏼

@@mtbnorthwestengland Out in the middle of winter with the Uk's mud, wet stone and chuffing great rocks. I've watched you and your mates out in some proper grizzly conditions. Even this latest one, 4000+ feet over 11 miles? Hardcore. Though at least the weather was nice!

Its not too bad really, it's just the getting up there with the bike. Wouldn't surprise me if an Ebike could ride 70-80% up that descent although it may drain the battery a bit 🤔

    Ennerdale decent was brutal 🙏🏼

That was proper, you probably heard me saying I'll not be rushing back. I like to give things a try because one persons ideal trail is another's nemesis. I like riding 4 passes and remember seeing a FB post not long ago somebody saying it was 16 miles of horrendous pushing and carrying, never to be repeated 🤷‍♂️

Mountain biking in the 90's used to be banned in the lakes.
