MTB North West England
Великобритания
Добавлен 1 июл 2016
Started to put a few videos together of me riding the bike which I tend to do once or twice a week all year round usually in the North West of England. Local rides tend to be Lake District, Peak District, Hebden Bridge, Wharncliffe and anywhere within 100 mile radius of Wigan sometimes on my own or with various riding buddies. Started riding mountain bikes over 20 years ago with a fully rigid bike and currently the owner of a Nukeproof Mega 290 and Bird Zero 275. Reckon I have ridden most trails in the area worth riding but always exploring looking for new stuff. If you want to follow my adventures on the bike then please subscribe to the channel.
Scotland MTB - Ballater 'The North Wind Doth Blow'
From the slippiest ride on the last edit to the most dangerous ride I reckon I've done due to the remoteness, depth of snow making it slow going and temperatures way below zero with the windchill. It was difficult to keep your body temperature up and did get a bit touch and go traversing across to the summit of Heartbreak Ridge not knowing it well having only done it once before with snow on the trails made navigation very difficult. Also the video doesn't really give a sense of how cold it was out there 🥶❄️☃️
We did have the intention to do some stuff on the other side of the river but it took over 3 hrs to get to the top so by the time we were finished the only appetite we had was to go ...

Peaks MTB - Hope Valley 'Hope Or No Hope'
Просмотров 55416 часов назад
One of the slippiest rides I've been on landing on my arse 4 times most of which was pushing the bike. Treads on the tyres and in the shoes completely filled with claggy mud but nevertheless this was fun and got a few laughs Out with Iain on a Tasty Tech ride so surprisingly there were some very technical descents on this and with the added mud and water it was erm.... challenging 😂 Some of the...
Scotland MTB - Glendevon 'Deviate Demo'

An impromptu trip to Scotland to use up some holidays from work so decided to have a go on a Deviate Claymore. Having ridden if you like traditional mountain bikes over many years thought I would try one of these on trend high pivot bikes and it did not disappoint They directed us to their local trails and by the time we got sorted with the bike and travelled the relatively short distance it wa...

Out with the Tasty Tech crew on a tour of the Calderdale Valley Crazy large group ride with 21 people joining this although not everybody lasted until the end for one reason or another You can't really go wrong for technical trails at Hebden if you know where to look and is a great venue with cafes, bars, restaurants and places to hang out Needless to say we were taken up the buttress, look it ...
Lakes MTB - Epic Tour of Coniston 'A Trip Down Memory Lane'
Просмотров 732Месяц назад
Not done some of these trails in years so decided to go for a nostalgic ride around Coniston Although the ground was quite wet in places due mainly to the time of year, I had the intention to go quite high around the Coniston fells in the hope that the rock would be dry prior to the rain moving in later in the afternoon. Unfortunately the rain arrived early just about when I was starting the ro...
Lakes MTB - Skiddaw & Ullock Pike 'Switchbacks From Heaven'

After many times of going off Skiddaw down the scree which without much thought is tradition, decided it was time to give the switchbacks another go which I haven't done in 6 or 7 years. Must admit to have struggled down them where Mark rode them like a scalded cat. This only inspires me to return and do better next time so watch this space 🤣 Due to the overnight rain and mild but not warm temp...
Peaks MTB - Edale 'Chunder Storm'

Another Tasty Tech full on excursion around the Edale Valley which did not disappoint (no surprise there then). After the initial climb, off the top of Mam Tor and down into the valley a couple of big climbs ensued, one planned and one impromptu. This was not everybody's cup of tea but for me carrying the bikes makes not a lot of difference Mark G had a pretty big crash on Grindslow which I did...
Lakes MTB - Borrowdale & Beyond 'Something for Everybody'

Todays forecast was not great with quite a lot of rain wherever so thought no better loop to be doing than Borrowdale Bash which ordinarily would be just fine if wet and cold although a bit short if not After doing Walla Crag and down to Watendlath in dry conditions I had a decision to make, the cloud was low so the lets say normal Dale Head extension was not very appealing With thinking cap on...
Lakes MTB - Kinda Kentmere Horsehoe 'You Win Some You Lose Some'

Some different trails around the Kentmere Valley instead of doing the same old Nan Bield which is an excellent descent. Fancied something different today so turned off my normal route to Thornthwaite Beacon and then down the wrong side of Nan Bield which is always an interesting challenge. Back over Harter and then onwards to Kentmere Pike Conditions were not too bad for the time of year but th...

A monster edit for an epic day. Not everybody's cup of tea and I get that but for an iconic ride out for 7 1/2hrs this a seems reasonable length I know the lakes quite well as you will have gathered from previous edits but around the Scafell Pike area I've always avoided due to 'don't bother', 'you can't ride any of it' type comments from others and a recent Instagram clip and Strava posting in...

I travelled as far south as I could to avoid the rain that was tracking across the north through Sunday. Telford forecast was a dry day and with the baking hot sunshine the day prior I thought the trails would be in mint condition and had t not started raining when I arrived they probably would have been Was a bit frustrating because this is not really the place to be in the rain and the trails...

I've not visited the lakes for a month to go biking which is a long time for me and then prior to that was the end of June. Jesus, you do like a challenge Martin 😂😂
If I'm not pushing my limits, I don't seem to get the same level of satisfaction 🤷♂️, it seems my brain doesn't understand the word 'no' 😅
@mtbnorthwestengland I hear you buddy 🤣🤣🤦♂️
The climb must have been brutal!
I can laugh about it now but at the time it was painful, very painful. A push all the way for me pretty much without the pedal assist, however it did help to keep my core temperature up 👌
Good effort boys, you must have been happy when you got back down into the trees. 😊
Cheers, sure was one of them character building days out. Couple of times we nearly bailed but stuck with it and looking back glad we did (although if it went wrong up there it would go very wrong very quickly) 🤘
Yep Mad as Fook 🤣
No change there then 😂
Love HBR.... interesting to see it in those conditions 👌
It would have been spot on if not so windy, grippy soft snow apart from the steep bit toward the end where I slipped pushing down
Looks like a mega ride, do you share the route link, I fancy that
I usually would on request but this is not my ride to share. If you ask Iain he put this together ruclips.net/video/CxmKVMl-RqM/видео.htmlsi=g2-8nIvwC-oUyRsz
Great video again, thanks a lot. How do you find the routes please?
Look up 'The Rides' or 'Tasty Tech Addicts' on Facebook and look out for the events, join the rides, this is where the magic happens 😂. Thanks for the comment 🤙
@@mtbnorthwestengland I'll look them up, thanks a lot!
Slip n slide crew !
Understatement of the day 🤣
@ 😆😂
A map of the route would be great if possible!?
Epic ride this one Mate!
Cheers pal 👍🏼
Looked a cracking day out
Not a bad place to ride, you could probably fill a day with riding different trails pretty steep too
Hi there ! What would you recommend suspension /bike wise for Cumbria & the lakes ? Is a 150 trail bike more than enough or would you say better on a bit more sus (170) enduro bike ? Coming from the Alpes, not quite as high but looks awesome.
Hi, I run a 170/165 which you may be aware watching the videos and think it fits the trails i.e. not over biked for what is on offer. Most people I know run similar Enduro bikes, however a 150 bike would certainly do the job quite admirably. I've ridden my hardtail a number of times in the lakes and everything is rideable, you just become slightly slower having to think more about line choices but I also like this which is as much fun as long as your not trying to keep up with a full bouncer and reduces the skill compensation. I also tend to ride the more technical trails in the lakes so depends if you are considering riding similar. If you have a 150 I would take it, if you are buying a bike for the lakes I would buy 170. I've recently been chatting to Deviate and they say their Highlander 150 will handle pretty much anything in Scotland which is similar to the lakes. Hope this helps and enjoy your ride. Are you visiting for holiday or relocating?
Have just found your channel and subscribed Mate.
Cheers pal, I'll have a look at yours 👍🏼
New bike?
Possible new bike of some description, Mega is 4 years old and been ridden to death with some stories to tell. Will be an analogue, not old enough for an Ebike yet 🤣
@ analogue or E Bike they go down the hill the same, but it’s easier going up the hill but in a way it’s not because you just challenge yourself even more going up the rockiest shit you can find. You do more greater distance than a day. But they cost twice as much that’s the only downfall. Believe me 2 1/2k to 3 1/2k cal in a day is easily done no problem on an e-bike. When I say a day, I’m probably only out for about four hours and I’ve done 30 mile.
@@twowheels4689 I don’t agree that they go down the same they are like monster trucks nowhere near as much fun as an analogue IMO and I get what you say about distance/climbing but I ride with many Ebikes who only do the same distance and elevation as myself 🤔
PS this whole Ebike/analogue thing will rumble on forever until they stop making analogue bikes so there is no choice for the rider and I don’t think there’s a right or wrong opinion
@@mtbnorthwestengland yes analog bikes roll faster on the flats and downhill. But I’m willing to sacrifice that climbing them steep Hills 😂
My local trails. They're no joke 🙂
Not sure the names but the second one we did in the icy conditions was..... erm interesting trying to get through the gulley of death 😆. Usual GoPro effect on camera 🙄
The question is…have you ordered one🤔
Good question, I'm not one for rushing into things, but then again 🤔
Need to get myself up to Scotland !
I've been a few times but feel like I've only scratched the surface and typical of most head for the tweed valley because its good riding and closer if heading north
U got the route please
This is an old one but yes I'll find it and put it on Komoot
This should get you to the GPX. www.komoot.com/tour/983466419 Download GPX I'll probably remove it in a couple of days
PS you can't really go wrong at Ilkley there are trails running all along the hillside so may be easier just to find another trail go down it and loop back around
@@mtbnorthwestengland thanks mate. I've got it copied now cherrs
How far is the route?
17 miles, 4,700ft ascent
@ a good climb up
@@1977philc yeah 3,000ft straight up off the bat and then once that's out of the way it is pure MTB gold 👌
Definitely some spicy moments 😎🤠
Hebden shows its true colours 🤙
Wish you share the route you do they look mega
I kind of do, you just need to hook up with me on Strava, link on channel. Occasionally I put them on Komoot but don't usually bother
I did this ride with you originally but have vague memories of it. I think I enjoyed some of it. It still doesn't compare to the very worst ride I've ever done, that goes to Nidderdale. Coincidentally, the same ride leader.
Yeah we used to ride in the dales a lot and presume you refer to Simon L as leader, he used to put lots of mile munching torturous rides up 😂. I think like you it remained somewhat in my memory and although not the best ride you will do on a modern bike, did it to reminisce and it did bring back some good old memories 👍🏼
I remember most of those trails from many Bogtrotters rides!
That's were I remember them from so maybe I know you? If you rode on Saturday with Simon Barnes, maybe not, if you rode on Sunday then probably because I did Sunday rides for about 10 years
Nice video fella! Have you got the Strava link?
Cheers, just posted it on Komoot for you www.komoot.com/tour/1524095755?share_token=ahaN5e0IoOKjOx6bYg3hA6AkWvykE57LhTRFfnlGI1rINodu16&ref=wtd
Great video 📹!
Glad you enjoyed it 🤙
I've ridden lots around Parkamoor, (was there yesterday in fact) but never down that track through the woods you took, which I look forward to giving a go in the future.
I had meant to do this route earlier in the year but might now have to wait for a sunny winter day or until spring '25, I reckon
Depends if you want to do the silly stuff on Coniston fells on a good day or you could come down Walna Scar from the top instead of going higher and then add in something else quite easily
I’ll like to try going high as I’ve not yet ridden over Old Man. Might be a challenge getting me, my fatness & my ruddy heavy eMTB up, but I’m used to a bit of hike-a-biking
I look forward to trying this variation on a Coniston theme route. Cheers
No worries, enjoy. They have sanitised the hell out of what was the great flowy descent which we did call Rock and Roll bringing you out of Nibthwaite
What an epic day out. Looks a great loop.
Cracker mate, a bit of everything on this 👍
How could I get this route please absolutely brilliant
Strava is your friend, link on the channel
Looks an epic day
Yep glutton for punishment doing the last climb 👍
cheeky v in the rain and dark 😅
Far too easy in dry daylight hours 😂
Glad to get back home then? lol
Yeah felt a bit like that
Did it a few weeks ago 40mph winds up the top, you could feel the bike getting pushed coming down the switch backs. Snapped my chain stay as i came off of ullock on the grass bit at the bottom of the field and had to ride 11 miles back with it lashed up with some nylon rope i found near the farm. All added to the adventure 😂 Definitely one I'd do again but id probably drop all the way to Bassenthwaite instead of coming round the back on the cumbrian way
I think we got a bit lucky, always seems to be windy top of Skiddaw. First time I did it we had to turn round due to the wind because I just thought there's no way I'll ride down there in this and it was proper cold. I quite like that Cumbrian way return, try it again next year in summer after a dry spell if we get one if you haven't been that way in good weather and think you'll be pleasantly surprised the difference. Bassenthwaite turn off is too short for me but then again I'm usually out all day 👍🏼
@mtbnorthwestengland probably didn't enjoy it as much as I had to nurse the bike back with the chainstay lashed together 😂
Is that a nukeproof mega? Is it the right tool for the job? Only ask cos I’m looking at buying a 290 frame for big adventure rides. Epic video 👊
I had a 2017 275 from new and snapped the frame in 2019 but liked the bike so much I went for a 2020 290 which is what this is and love it so been riding these types of trails on it for the last 4 years and has served me well. The bike is long and I got a large so it is a bit too big so when it gets steep and your declagging on the back tyre, it's a touch too big but no real complaints and handles very well 🤙
@@mtbnorthwestengland declagging 🤣. Nice one!
Really enjoyed this one, thanks! When Mark pins his ears back, almost nobody can keep up, as his numerous KOM’s and the occasional # head-tube attest 🎉
He certainly likes the loose stuff, you may know he has a MX background so used to sliding bikes around 👌
this looks amazing, would you happen to have a Strava route for the ride you did please
Possibly one of the best in the lakes, look me up on Strava and you will find. Link on the channel 👍
@@mtbnorthwestengland awesome just sent you a request on strava
Having never done this route would recommend the switch backs over the scree run to the Ullock col?
I would say the switchbacks are more interesting. Consistently challenging and moderately steep but always loose whereby the scree is easier but also more difficult in places running most of the time off camber and loose but not as loose so take your pick I suppose. As a creature of habit the scree is nearer to the summit and easier to find so that is usually subconsciously chosen. Mark had never ridden them before and thought they were brilliant so horses for courses really 🤔
From 17 mins think I’ve done that bit and there’s a lot of walking over them rocks and pedal strikes lol Did you not go down that rocky steep Hill? Like a path. I’m talking it’s literally vertical
Lots of pedal strikers, it's not a track to go full tilt. Think you might be referring to Grindsbrook Clough, a couple of guys had a look at it and reckon it would be fairly rideable but we were heading for a different descent
@@mtbnorthwestengland yeah, it’s definitely doable. That’s if nobody is walking up it it’s very busy.
Great video - I recognise parts but would you mind sharing the Strava link or somewhere I can get the GPX from? TIA 👍
Cheers pal, Strava account is your friend, link in channel title. Unfortunately I didn't record the full ride, missed the Mam Tor climb so if you know that one up the broken road you can pick it up from there. You may be able to download complete ride from people I rode with?
Absolutely gorgeous ride ! On the bucket list.
Cheers pal, it is pretty awesome, enjoy 👌
Warnscale looked as sketchy as always A do it once ride me thinks .. Rigg Beck however off Sail is heaven :)
Pretty full on descending Warnscale as you know, I really enjoy it but I'm a bit of a masochist 😆. Sail looks better than it actually is IMO, about half way down I just straight lined it, that was a few years ago when they had just been built so maybe it is more interesting these days after some weather 🤣
Whst downhill is that at the start...ace
Walla Crag down the Ashness Bridge pal, very nice indeed and a good start to a ride 👌
Hi mate, do you have the gpx file for this route please?
Hit me up on Strava, link in channel title
Rigg beck is very nice in summer time nice green but this ride one hell of ride
Reckon best in spring when it dries before the bracken starts to grow too much
It's brutal that descent past Wharnscale - Walked it on a hardtail. Almost lost it up on Fleetwith Pike. Top stuff.
The definition of a descent that keeps on giving, with varying degrees of difficulty 🤙
I had a big crash on rigg beck 15 years ago. It's the definition of singletrack.... cheers for the video
Thanks pal, its the parrot on your shoulder that keeps telling you to go faster 🤣
That was some walk up that slate quarry to go down that beautiful descent. Been down it once beautiful views and a very challenging descent. When you think it’s just about to flatten out it lied it’s just as bad as the difficult bit at the top. I think I have seen a video worse some guy made that bit you was talking about. It’s quite a few years old it’s not a recent video.
All great descents on that loop really but Warnscale is intense tech from top to bottom as you know changing character on the way down. I'll keep an eye out for any videos of the bomb hole and something tells me Nukeproof had a pro rider clean it on one of their promo videos (but that doesn't count 😂)
