My dad sang this song when he was drinking with his friends back in the 70s. I'm sure he played and sang worse all through the 50s 60s and 70s. He was an entertainer of sorts and loved making people laugh. Thanks for making this video. Made me laugh and cry.
You, good sir, are one hell of a talented man and I’m glad this is the first version of this song I’m hearing. I recently saw the watered down lyrics and knew the real song had to be better. And your GUITAR is BREATHTAKING🖤
Classic I remember your version all the way back when I was a kid and I am 60 now. I hope that some people in today's world aren't so delicate that they can't laugh and have a good chuckle. Thanks, Barnacle Bill The Sailor for a good laugh and remembering the old days.
I remember the verse What's that running down my leg x3 said the fair maiden. Barnacle Balls said "A little shellac to fill your crack said Barnacle Balls the Sailor. A little shellac to fill your cack said Barnacle Balls the Sailor."
I remember a similar verse that went: “What’s that running down your leg?” X3. “We’ll that’s the load I couldn’t hold said Barnacle Bill the sailor.” LOL Great memories of years long past.
THIS is exactly the version I remember having learned in my all girls camp in northern MI, summer of 9th grade going into 10th!! Soooo damned funny (and naughty for sure). Great job!! Thank you!
Back in the '70's we'd sing a version of this .I suddenly remembered it and had to look it up. If not mistaken, we were singing "Barnacle Ball of Salem".... :D
I first heard this love ballad in 5th grade. The kid who recited this to me had it perfectly memorized. He was barely passing the 5th grade, but he could commit this entire song to memory, and sing it with gusto! Hysterical!
I woke up with this song in my brain. First heard it in the late sixties sailing around the horn on a destroyer heading to Chile. Good weather and a bunch of guys sing on the flag bridge was a hell of a fun time. Don't why I woke up to this in my brain, maybe I ate to many crab legs the night before.
Thanks for the memories Larry. My neighbor in NY use to play this from time to time..You have a lot more verses then he. You had me in stitches! I still can't stop laughing. Love your get up! I needed a good laugh. Thanks LL
I learned it in grade school at least 6o years ago but we always did it as Barnacle Balls the sailor. And the second verse we did was , to hell with yer aunty now pull down yer panties said Barnacle Balls the Sailor, but that's all I remember from the creative minds of the children singing this pleasant ballad
OMG I LAUGHED SO MUCH!!!!!! I had not heard it like this. In fact it has been YEARS since i heard this song ...since I was a kid. Many moons/decades ago. LOL
My mom used to drink when I was younger and she would sing this to me and it's one of my greater childhood memories..miss ya Mom P.s...omg I'm laughing so hard I'm crying...mom did the voice and everything. Omg thank you so much for this
Good stuff Larry! The Fugs did this when I was in High school and my band did it too. Used to have this verse too .. "What would my poor mother say? What would my poor mother say? If your mother'll agree we'll make it three said Barnacle Bill the sailor". Good fun!
I was going to listen to this song after hearing about it on Reddit, and then go on with my life. But. But. But. That pirate getup and pirate impression made me subscribe. Thanks!
I was just told about this song today......if you call it a song. I have Never heard of this before. So, of course I had to looked it up and there you were! It was hilarious..... thanks for that!! HAHAHA :)
We would sing this as kids walking through the neighbourhood after we got dropped of by the Boys & Girls club bus..and we sang Loud! BUT we were also all in the choir ..lol. I forgot most of it, Thanks for the trip down memory lane!!
In England we used to sing 'Bollocky' Bill the Sailor. The same tune but slightly different words. 1st verse) 'Who's that knocking at my door? Ect' 'It's me and me crew and we're here for screw cried Bollocky Bill the Sailor' 2nd verse) 'Wipe your feet upon the mat, wipe your upon the mat, wipe your feet upon the mat, cried the fair maiden' 'Bugger the mat you can't fuck that cried Bollocky Bill the Sailor.' Verse 3) 'What if I should have a child ect' 'We'll kill the young bugger then fuck for another cried Bollocky Bill the Sailor' The rest of the verses were fairly similar if I remember. 😁 A lot of these old bawdy songs seem to have different lyrics in not only different English speaking countries, but in different English counties too. I don't know if Barnacle/Bollocky Bill originated in the USA or The UK. Sounds like it had its origins in naval circles so could have quite easily transfered one way or the other. Do you sing 'The Good Ship Venus' in America? Now that really is a very bawdy song lol. 😈
I heard another different version of Barnacle Bill The Sailor with the only lyrics I can remember:- "I'd b****r the mother & f**k for another!" said Barnacle Bill The Sailor! When I was at school in the 80's I remember someone had a copy of The Bawdy Book Of Ballads & Barnacle Bill The Sailor & The Good Ship Venus was in there & we read it & recited it & everyone thought it was funny!
What if I should get the **clap** What if I should get the **clap** What if I should get the **clap** Cried the fair young maiden. "You gotta be willing to take penicillin!" said Barnacle Bill the Sailor~ "You gotta be willing to take penicillin!" said Barnacle Bill the Sailor~
I have a great friend and previous co-worker in the USAF named Bill Barnicle! And we actually skippered boats for the USAF water survival school in Homestead AFB. No foolin! :)

Wipe your feet upon the mat said the fair maiden. The hell with the mat, you can't fuck that said barnacle bill the sailor. Heard this while at camp shand Carlisle,PA.
as a youth in the 1970's and 1980 our bsa camp director bill scaffer (a fine person) would sing this to staff only for keep moral up and staff bonding. It worked. it was one of his signiture songs. in the many years on staff we all expected him to sing it. he even mixed it up for better laughs(instead of shot your pa and F&*^ your mom, would say shoot your ma and F$%# your pa) his nick name among the staff was nimrod or the cheif..god bless you bill in heaven. the song is still with me almost 50 years
Hilariously irreverent song! I remember somewhere seeing the following verse near the end, must've been a different version. "What if we should get the chair? What if we should get the chair? What if we should get the chair, Cried the fair young maiden." "I'll lay a fart and blow it apart," Said Barnacle Bill the sailor. "I'll lay a fart and blow it apart," Said Barnacle Bill the sailor.
Bill The Fox Foster Brought me here... Btw bless you sir for the disclaimer. Your a funy performer but the old man in me thanks you for warning those not comfortable with the song
My father was a shy man. Around women and children a vulgar word never came from his mouth. Yet while he was thinking or speaking of his time in the army. I would here him speak of Barnicle Bill the Sailor. I assume now that the Song must have been popular with Military Men in WW2.
I can still picture 6 Sailors who went on Liberty back in 1978 after doing Gator Squares off Monterey California. We were assigned from Assault Craft Unit One out of Coronado Amphibious Base. We were ready to party, got off the liberty boat right into the first few bars. We drank and raised some hell and there is this version of the song we sang arm in arm back to the landing. The damn town rolled up the sidewalks at 10pm..in Carmell..Who does that?? So arm in arm beers drawn down and sing this version full blast..we laughed tossed the beer and pissed behind some trees..then started singing ..when this nice police officer gave us a ride back to pier... But lights came on when we belched out this shocker..I will say..ah..those were the days..⚓⚓
Awesome job singing that song, when I was a young teenager back in the early 70s my buddies and I would sing that song all the time obviously we got a lot of rude looks from the neighbors, but we really didn’t care we are having too much fun singing “barnacle Bill the sailor”...!!!
Very authentic - I first heard it from my brother who was a rugby player. It was common to sing it on the bus when they travelled to their tournaments. They also played games like having to pick up a marshmallow with your but cheeks and deliver it to the front of the bus. They also consumed a lot of alcohol.

You, good sir, are one hell of a talented man and I’m glad this is the first version of this song I’m hearing. I recently saw the watered down lyrics and knew the real song had to be better. And your GUITAR is BREATHTAKING🖤

"Just a shot that missed your twat ..."
I remember a similar verse that went: “What’s that running down your leg?” X3. “We’ll that’s the load I couldn’t hold said Barnacle Bill the sailor.” LOL Great memories of years long past.

Fondly remembered naughty song from my childhood.

In England we used to sing 'Bollocky' Bill the Sailor. The same tune but slightly different words. 1st verse) 'Who's that knocking at my door?
