American tries MONTREAL POUTINE (3 places in 1 night)

- Опубликовано: 7 июн 2024
- My American friend and I took a road trip to Montreal, Quebec, Canada to try and find the best poutine dish. We went to three different places that were recommended to us by our subscribers, and then as a final stop we tried McDonald's poutine to see how it all compared! Along the way we hit some road bumps, and a Karaoke bar, and also delivered a prize pack to our last video's contest winner (who lives in Montreal, and is why we did this trip!) (FYI the contest is over now!)

This was nuts. On the way there we ran over a muffler in the middle of the highway (not a bumper) but somehow we’re able to continue the trip. So what is your favourite poutine place? Did we get it right? Also we know that we’re pronouncing “Banquise” wrong. Sorry, eh!
Finally, RUclipsrs come to Montreal to taste real poutine! I comment on all the poutine videos by saying to come to Quebec! Hopefully, you will inspire others to find out why its our national treasure ! Now, i'm hungry !
Vicky Dionne awesome! We loved it...as you can tell!
I'm glad I found this channel for when I visit Canada defenetly gonna try that Poutine and some of the other stuff I saw on the Video that you guys made on the supermarket
Happy Punk I am also glad you found it!!
Some truck in front of us on the 401 near Trenton dropped something I ran it over because it was dark out and my car started to shake. Whatever fell out of the truck made it stall and die in front of us. Ended up my tire rim was bent by it. Glad that was it.
I died when he pulled out the Canadian tire money 🤣🤣
They could have used it for a tip....lol
@@randy7068 omg yesssss.. now that would have been priceless lmao
What is it. They never explained. I'm gonna have to Google it.
Nero G when you shop at a Canadian Tire you get 0.4% of what you spend back in Canadian tire money witch can be used in any Canadian Tire store. It used to be 5%
Randy ahahahah. I actually tried to tip them and they refused. It was unreal. So nice.
I love watching Americans love our food and culture. Quebec is one of the places everyone who loves, food, culture and craft beer need to visit.
Kevin Mitchell you can’t call poutine as “food”. The fact that poutine is considered “cultural” food shows that Quebec has no food or gastronomy culture...... poutine is simply fast food nothing more.....
@@henrichvonstaufenberg4841 Saying that we have no food culture is a bit excessive. Of course, we do not have as many original meals like they have in France or Mexico, but we do have some specialities (sucre à la crème, chinese paté, fèves au lard, tourtière... ).
I do agree that poutine is fast food, but more and more restaurants really take it to the next level and offer a whole new experience. Also, if poutine is considered a cultural meal, it's because poutine originated from there. If you want a "real" poutine, you need to at least come to Canada, where we have cheese curds.
P.S.
If poutine isn't food, well I don't know if we can say that hamburgers, hot-dogs or even apples are food.
@@henrichvonstaufenberg4841 very wrong and biased!
@@henrichvonstaufenberg4841 We actually have some really high-level chefs, a culture and a gastronomic scene in Quebec, you are just not aware of it probably due to your familial environment keeping you isolated from it.
@@henrichvonstaufenberg4841 just because you don't know what it is doesnt mean we dont have any. Look up Tourtière, cipaille, pâté de chasseur, poudding chômeur and go get yourself an education.
As a Montrealer, I am kind of offended that people suggested La Belle Province for best one. It's only redeeming factor is how it is everywhere in Quebec, so if you are drunk or stoned and want to stuff your face in poutine, La Belle Province got you. But let's not kid yourself, it's trash. To makes it even worse, their cheese is often cold, which just kills it for me.
I was thinking the exact same thing!!
I would prefer going to Gerard patate before that hehe
i agree, the best places are usually side of the road cantines in the middle of nowhere, not those big franchises.
Hey! The center cold cheese is actually what poutine is about.
I personally think that when the cheese is colder you get more of the "squick squick" texture. But yeah La Belle Province is too overrated
The song is The Killers, Mr Brightside. We live in Valencia, Spain and can't go out because of Coronavirus so we are doing virtual visits to countries with Google Earth and RUclips. Poutine is now the principal thing we know about Canada
You can’t bring leftover poutine home 😂
It becomes a solid block of fat and reheated it’s not the same.
payasofeo69 yes it’s no good haha
@@JosephD La Banquise's poutine can be reheated to a decent state in a toaster oven... Microwave forget it. I never finish my La banquise poutine but it's the only poutine I can actually eat after reheating. Mind you, I never tried that with poutine that has any other stuff on it than cheese curd or some meat like the t-Rex if it had veggies or sour cream, guac or anything like that would probably be awful reheated.
You have to reheat it in a 400 degree oven on a baking sheet. I add more cheese, pepper and st Hubert sauce and it’s perfect drunk/stoner food
Yeah I’ve learned that the hard way lol!
a3dstorm I’ve never been there. I’m dying for amazing poutine. Is it that good?
If you're going to Montreal then you have to get a Montreal smoked meat sandwich as well!!!!!
Oh yeah that place right around the corner from "La Boom Boom"!
Most definitely. The nest place is at the top end of Boulevard de Laurentide in Laval, small strip mall on the right. You can't miss it. If you hit the Vietnamese place you've gone too far.
@@Northbaylandscaping I just love our directions lolol
We don't call it Montreal smoked meat
@@jonathanduplantis1403 Its just smoked meat
I'm 9 minutes into the video, and you've already hit all the gold standards that many tourists miss out on. You went to La Banquise, you asked the waiter how to properly pronounce poutine (THANK YOU!), and you got a plain poutine to compare. As a Quebecer, I want to hug you right now. I'm going to finish the video, but this is an A++ effort so far.
Update: La Belle Province is a good representation of what the average poutine is like. A lot of people who try to make recipe videos don't get it because it's meant to be super greasy and essentially look and taste like heaven for people with hangovers. If it's too classy, it's missing the point. McDonald's poutine is alright. Like you guys said, it's not bad all things considered. But yeah, La Banquise is poutine heaven. I dare anyone to find a better poutine place in the entire world.
😂thank you!!
@@JosephD the banquise is way overratted there is ton of place whit better poutine.... in the province not just montreal
Nowhere else in the world you could find poutine so don’t need to compare it to the world..... and La Belle Province is a nasty fast food chain like McDonald’s and others so no surprise that their poutine is comparable tho McDonald’s and is not that good
Actually, there's a better poutine than La Banquise just on the other side of the street at La Poule Mouillée.
Chef on Call has the best poutine I've had
The world needs poutine in their lives.
There would be no wars in the world if everyone had access to poutine XD
@@DarkSim64 I'm pretty sure every war on earth originates from the lack of poutine in some place of the world...
@@DarkSim64 indeed. I am with this statement.
Tanks should fire poutine in the face of the enemy. Instant peace!
My husband heard keywords Montreal and Poutine from the other room. We live in Michigan and he's from Montreal and is really enjoying this video
JoelKyle awesome!!
Lol keywords. You’re not wrong though 😂
We eat fries and gravy in Michigan similar..maybe it's just a flint thing
@@mikeadkins7665 as a Canadian citizen you haven't lived until you've had real poutine, it's not just fries and gravy it's special.
I'm always disappointed with fancy extra toppings, classic is the way to go
I mostly agree with you, but I need to swap the traditional gravy with the peppercorn gravy. When I do it homemade, I use montreal steak spices. You can't go back to traditional gravy after tasting that!
I agree but there's still some good topping like Italian sausage with BBQ sauce or ground beef
If the toppings are truly fancy then you're right. If we're talking about pepperoni, bacon or sausages and fast food veggies (bell peppers, onions, mushrooms) then it's not only legitimate, it's fucking amazing!
I think adding chicken is good. If not then it feels too empty.
Only Mtl. smoked meat that is it for funky additions. PERIOD!!! That being said, La Belle Patate on Davie in Vancouver has 31 methods of preparation and a Super Cute Irish staff member.
That mood after eating a poutine is what I call poutine sadness. Your buddy in the vehicle before the 3rd stop experienced it lol 🤣
My heart actually skipped a beat when you got "hit by that car" ! hahaha
I literally jumped in my seat when that happened. I was not expecting that in a video like this lol
LMAOOOK deadass
It is beautiful watching americans eat real poutine and suddenly be less sarcastic about Canadians :)
You guys are either the closest of friends or the cutest couple ever. Either way, I'm hooked lol
I volunteer to be the middle part of that sandwich!
@@matthewlynn793 the bearded guy 😍
I said the same thing!
@@xzgun100 I agree. He is adorable and sexy. The guy in the black shirt who looks over froom the next table at 6:23 is cute too.
His IG shows he has an incredibly adorable baby girl with a beautiful woman, so it seems they are just close friends. Good friends to road trip with is hard to find sometimes. They make great videos together for sure.
I had to pause the video halfway through to go get myself a poutine ...I live in Montreal! haha! Also, I tried all 4 poutine places you've tried and I confirm the La Banquise is the best in Montreal!
"Is it Putain?"
I swear every American immediately pronounces it the way that means "Whore" in French.
poo-teen is how I pronounced it. Never heard an American say poo-tain.

The best poutine ever is in small trucker restaurants along a highway, with «cuisine canadienne» as advertisement. A «cabane à patate» ie a small chack along a small road, becoming more and more rare in Québec, are by far the best!
100%
Yes! Every summer, my family used to visit our French half in Quebec and stop at chip trucks all the way up once we entered Quebec. The poutine was unreal. 😋
Or any hockey arena
Love that you guys did this! Hope there are More to come
You should have at least stopped for Bagels before going back.
Rosie H. True !!!!!
Good call, can't got to Montreal and not get bagels!
we do that every year for a whole week it’s called la poutineweek and it’s starting tomorrow, can’t wait lol
No way belle pro makes their own gravy in house. Definitely packets
I agree lol
Yes, they are a chain. Couldn't be homemade.
He said it's made "in here" and it's "kind of a secret." If they mix the powder with water in the kitchen and don't tell anyone how they do it, he wouldn't technically be lying. ;)
They make the gravy by putting water in the powder and stirring.
some chains make it in house but packets can still be delicious tho, it just isnt most of the time
I have watched this blog several times and laugh out loud every time. It just never gets old!!!
I accidentally found this, but lordy. That poutine looks AMAZING. Subscribed so fast! Also, you were singing "Mr. Brightside" by The Killers. Well done, might I add. It takes guts to get up and sing in front of people.. and even more when you have that much poutine in you.
Wyred Alice Hahahah. Very true
I about cried at the Canadian Tire money. I'm a Canadian in Ontario, and it was amazing to watch your minds being blown when you tried the original poutine. (That's the only one that matters in my opinion.)
Great video, I'm subscribed now!
mirrbot 😂thank you!!
Thank you for coming to our city - hope the traffic and construction wasnt too bad 😂 will only be able to watch this week ... exciting!
You guys are so underrated, like yall put so much more effort into your videos than bigger youtubers. So im definitely subbing and liking for that.
As a French Canadian Montrealer, La belle province is not a good quality place for poutine in comparison to banquise and poutineville but it depends on which belle province you go to since they’re independently owned and managed! GREAT video loved it
Oddly enough that sounds similar to something we in Florida have called the Breakfast Station. Where I am at we have like 4 or 5 within 1 hour's drive. I have been to 4 of the 5 and I must say everyone I have been to, I am more than willing to admit, are equal to each other in friendliness, delicious food (I've had several different items from their Benedict Florentine to their Irish Skillet and even their Sherry Car, to their Salads and even Mushroom Burger)as well as a wonderful atmosphere. I would love to eventually try Poutine as I am very culturally open culinary wise as well as just in general. For now that remains a pipe dream however. If you ever come to Florida though, do check out Breakfast Station I promise you will not be disappointed.
same, I hate the fries at the belle pro
the quality between Belle Pros really differs from place to place. they're more or less run independently of each other
yeah, even the menu and the price change
good point. it's very noticeable
La Belle Province is a nasty fast food chain like McDonald’s and others so no surprise that their poutine is comparable tho McDonald’s and is not that good
The Le Belle Pro in the west island on brunswick is totally different than belle province..much better!!
@@henrichvonstaufenberg4841 nah la belle province in beauport quebec is not nasty and the poutine is insanly good

You guys are totally determinate to your fans which I fully respect and appreciate, I have done something crazy once which I drove 12 hours to a game developing company and personally deliver a huge jar full of cookies to all the developers there as for myself and my fellow gamers to show our appreciation towards their work.
I can only assume the poutine here in the west coast will taste differently than those in Montreal because we also use the local sources for ingredients. That being said, I would love to try it in Montreal and learn from it at its birth place.
A good, memorable road trip has always fill up unexpected, and a huge plus with a good friend to tag along!
Mr. Brightside - The Killers
You guys got the order wrong. Drinks, karaoke, drinks, poutine then bed. 😂
Wonderful video guys thanks for showcasing some of my homes favorite foods come back soon
This Montrealer loved this video! Glad you guys recognized excellent poutine when you had it at La Banquise (note: u is silent and s is like a z). Love that you also had to stop at Cdn Tire. Awesome canuck experience for the American.
As for McDs, proof their recipes are made to be addictive as well as super salty. They came up with a recipe that works for them when their fries and gravy wouldn't pass an individual poutine ingredients taste test.
Good job!
Both of you guys are amazing!’ I can’t believe you don’t have more subscribers. Best channel!!!

You should consider doing an episode at Firehouse Subs, now that they are in Canada.
There's one in Oakville, Winona, Niagara Falls. Great subs.
Incredibly brave night of poutinery. While watching I remembered a truly Canadian delicacy only available in our capital city. When I was in Uni I went to Ottawa with my girlfriend (1999?) and her friend took us for PIZZA WITH GRAVY. Yup, it was called Georgies special and wasn’t in the menu. 1am and there was a lineup. Now apparently it’s gone on to be a staple and what they’re famous for. Road trip to Ottawa for Beaver Tails, shawarma and Georgies pizza with gravy! Oh and nice job on Mr. Brightside. Cheers.

Best poutines are probably from small restaurants on the side of the highways. There’s also really good poutine with chicken at the restaurant right across the street from La Banquise

Another thing: Near the metro station Namur (named after Belgian city Namur / Namen), there is the Gibeau Orange Julep. This place has orange juice and hot dogs.
Had to watch this epic trip again! If you can get your hands on the cheese curds, homemade poutine is actually super easy to make at home and the kids will love it. I started making it with oven baked fries a couple of years ago and it's not all that unhealthy and it tastes awesome. Nothing else goes so well with a beer or a football game. Pizza is close. Hot dogs are close too, but adding hot dogs TO THE POUTINE is the way to go if hot dogs are in play. Damn....now I'm super hungry. If you're out this way again, I'd be happy to serve you a couple of Pete's Poutines fresh out of the oven!
lol Love the video guys. First time I watch your videos I'm from Quebec but further north than Montreal. ''Saguenay''. The food here is great but I got to say when I was in the military I went to New Orleans for over a mouth. OMG the smells coming out of those restaurants in the french quarter. So so so soooooo good. Its fun to travel and see and taste the difference and seing new things and tasting new things. I love food. Good for the soul....take care guys. And do come again.
Former Montrealer here . Thanks for the visit. You’re pronouncing Banquise perfectly.
La Belle is awesome if you want a poutine within 3 minutes. Nothing wrong with it.
McDonalds is good poutine because the cheese curds and the sauce are pretty authentic. It’s only the frozen fries that changes the dish ... but for $5 and on any main corner in the country you can get a poutine fix. Same as in most Burger King and Wendy’s in Canada.
Ps) we call the gravy “sauce” in Montreal... not gravy.
Thanks for the video. I’m getting poutine tomorrow !!
I heard BK's poutine isn't very good, and I can verify Wendy's is garbage, and that Mickey D's is actually decent for a convenience item.
Well done, Mr Brightside :)
My wife is from Quebec, and shortly after we got married we went to the waterslides (here in BC). Their snack hut had "poutine" on the menu, so we ordered it. They used NACHO CHEESE FROM A PUMP along with gravy on fries. It was like a horrendous soup. Absolutely terrible.
🤮
Oh my god she must of suffered lmao im From Quebec still living here nothing compares our Poutine anywere else :D
I love your videos! Keep it up
Mr. Brightside by The Killers! You have missed so many good places but I have to say two of the most memorable ones for me we're at "Le Fameux" corner of Mont-Royal and St-Denis with the grilled poutine and at "Poutine Centrale" corner of Hochelaga and Charlemagne, with the Poutine butter chicken. Banquise is a standard un Montréal but there is some surprising underground places as well. Loved the video!
