In the score, that final note is an Ab. Back in the 80s when SofM was revived in the west end, June Bronhill sang the role of Mother Abbess. She had CEM transposed up so her last note was a B natural!!! An old acquaintance of mine saw a performance, and in the seconds June Bronhill took, to take a breath before that final high B natural, a bloke in the audience, who clearly knew what was coming, exclaimed for all to hear, "JESUS CHRIST!" Ah, live theatre and the great British public.....you can't beat 'em!!!!
AS A SINGER MYSELF, I DRAW YOUR ATTENTION TO THE RELAXATION OF THE MOUTH AND FACE. RELAXATION IS NECESSARY FOR TONE QUALITY AND VOCAL RANGE. CONSIDER FOR INSTANCE, THE OVAL OPEN MOUTH CONFIGURATION OF BOY SOPRANOS WHO HAVE GOT TRAINED VOICES. WHEN MOUTHS ARE SPREAD HORIZONTALLY, A MODIFIED SCREAM IS EMITTED., CHARACTERISTIC OF ROCK SINGERS AND MOST OTHER SINGERS. TO AN EXTENT, TONE QUALITY CAN BE IDENTIFIED JUST BY LOOKING AT THE FORMATION OF A MOUTH, EVEN WHEN WATCHING WITHOUT THE SOUND TURNED ON . THIS SINGER RESPECTS HER INSTRUMENT AND DESERVES PRAISE.
I come back to this once a week - she's so life affirming!
Beautiful!!!!!
That's how the song should sound

Alexandra Loutsion is amazing. I have seen her in Elektra with the Washington National Opera and Die Walkure with the Virginia Opera.
Can't quite tell from this clip if she's soprano or mezzo. Would she have done the title role and Brunnhilde?
