SORRY GUYS HUGE ERROR !!!
Becca just got round to watching our last vlog and asked me why I said it wasn't our stern gland causing the leak when it was???
It is in fact our stern gland causing the leak, but its not the standard rope re packing that it needed, our boat is fitted with a rubber seal instead of the rope so the process takes longer
For some stupid reason I thought that ment it wasn't the stern gland
We have 2 new vlogs going up again this week, monday and Thursday
Sorry again for error... suppose it just goes to show how clueless I am about our grubby little narrowboat... but I'll get there I promise
Chrissy Crobot x
Thats what i thought last time. Just pump some grease in it.
Buy a float switch and connect into you bilge pump circuit to make it automatic for peace of mind, although it’s no substitute for a good stern gland.
We will definitely e getting an automatic bilge pump alot safer too, many thanks for your advice 👍 😀
Oooo what an uneventful journey ! 🫣so far so good ! No need to panic though Chris you have a Becca! This lady knows her stuff !!
Yes a day off from all the carnidge... could we call it smooth sailing?
@@TheNomadicCrobot definitely old bean ! Lol
Arhh the ship pub! Brings back some memories for me! 👍👍
Cheers for watching buddy, its been a few months since iv last edited your head haha, great little pub to Moor up to, you and Kev will have to come for a cruise once she's finished :)
@@TheNomadicCrobot haha nice! will take a while to get to The Ship. Maybe we can drive there and meet you 🤣
Becca, Chris, What a nice cruise. Great reverse Becca. Well moored up Chris. You two are great. Enjoy the week. Take care both.
Thanks for joining us, it's been really fun to finally take the boat out ,take care 😀
Great Vlog Chris. So glad you really weren’t stranded. Good reversing Becca. Fingers crossed all goes well in the next section. That video you showed looked scary 😱, but I think the two of you can pull it off.
🙏😊🤗 Kathy
Thanks Kathy, we have done it once before from the other side so should hopefully go smoothly, not long now and will be at the marina 😀
@@TheNomadicCrobot hope all goes well at the marina. Take care!
Oh my be glad when you get there and get that leak sorted both tc now 🤞👍😮
Thank you, smooth sailing fingers crossed 🤞
Great reverse driving 🥳 and after a pub lunch!
she done great didn't she, well done Bex :)
Oh wow Beccs super impressed with that reverse job, pat on the back girl. I can’t help to continue to worry about that leak but I’m a worrier at the best of times and though I’ve watched you work on that pesky leak I still don’t understand where it’s coming from. I just read what you said about the bladder but still not sure. You two are my hero’s taking on the challenge of this boat, and you WILL get there with it, you’ll have a beautiful boat in the end, all be it a lot poorer, but you’ll know it back to front and be able to do most of the work yourselves. We all know what B O A T stands for. Keep up the good work and the entertaining vlogs. Stay safe. 💕
Haha your absolutely right, we know exactly what B O A T stands for haaa... the new leak is actually coming from the stern gland..my error in saying it wasn't, and we've actually just had it sorted which is a relief, thanks so much for your lovely comment 😀
Fun little trip you shared. Thanks, D
Thanks for joining us 😀
Nice to see you stopped at the ship inn.
Great little boozaaaa 😀
Another entertaining video you guys, you never let me down. Cracking bit of driving Becs. Can’t wait to see more 😉 👍🏼😊
Thanks buddy, she done really well didn't she, a natural some may say...especially in the rain haha 😜
@@TheNomadicCrobot haha yes, very impressive, especially after seeing the Wombats real life size today. Much bigger than on my tv haha
@@shoreylife haha yeah she's quite a beast, a shame she's just not ready to rock yet, oh you saw her in thr flesh...well done... I haven't been with her for a few days
@@TheNomadicCrobot hehe yeah we went for a wonder around the weir and along the river there and had a cuppa in The River Mill. Beautiful place. Then spent the rest of the day around St Neots. Lovely day out 👍🏼👍🏼
Wow Becca go girl great bit of reversing. Chris sure there is something that you can attach that the bilge pump comes on automatically, but worried hope your next bit of the journey goes well. Stay strong you two
Thank you Caroline we feel the pump situation can stay under control for a few more days, becca is a natural, thanks for your comment 😀
Nice reversing !!
Love the content by the way it's a breath of fresh air compared to others
Thanks so much 😃
Stranded? I missed that part, thanks. The rest of this episode was all on the move. If thats to be stranded I hope you will be stranded all the way to the marina. Must be interesting to be stranded for miles! Thank You🥰😇
Sorry Rolf I was referring to becca being stranded by me in the storm 😅 its the first thing that came to my head haha
I have rain fall collect in my engine bay but dont have a button to manually empty it. the bilge pump is automatic and switches on when 3" deep! I usually go at it with a sponge and a bucket...
Great vlog as always.
David, nb yaripyaroo.
Thanks for the info, yes we would love to get ourselves a few automatic bilge pumps, and other thing on the list to do haha thanks David cool boat name 😀
So exciding !!!Do you guy's may it or not before the boat sinks! Just hope you get there in time.........Robbie
its quite rare for a narrowboat to sink quickly from a problem like this, they normally sink within seconds if water gets in to the front deck in a lock
Hi Becca Chris, one thing to say lol why don’t you but a automatic bilge pump in it will switch itself on when the water lifts the float then the pump is switched on when the water level drops it turns of ? ,John 🙌🤝🙏🌹🌹👀
Hi John, we will be getting 2-3 automatic ones, there essential, its just we haven't got round to it with everything else going on, thanks for you comment :)
I have re packed my own gland, it's pretty easy , Teflon packing diagonal cut slight overlap.
Oh brilliant yes we've heard once you know how to do it it's a bit more straight forward thank you
Well done Becks. 👏
Don't think I'd sleep with that bilge filling up. Hope you don't have to abandon ship. 😱
I'm sure we will be fine, a few sleepless nights, but I think we have it under control thanks 😊
That's good to know. Hurry up and get to the boat yard to have a thorough check. 😊
The last fiberglass boat I had a prop shaft coming through the hull, I could tighten the gladhand. Don’t know if yours has that ability to tighten it.
Oh that's Intresting, I think we actually need a new rubber ring for it,it's a different type of repacking we weren't aware of really 😅
Sending positive thoughts 😃
Yay sending you positive vibes straight back 😊
You did great Becks
Thank you 😊
Hi Chris don’t get hung up over Denver and Salters load you’ll be fine. 👍🏼😎ask the lock keeper about Leviathan the boat that nearly sank in the lock. He had to get his pump out to keep me afloat. The tiller got stuck under the top of the lock my boat was a 70’ trad mind.😎🤣🤣
Oh my god that sounds terrifying ,we have done it a year ago when bringing the boat back and it went really well, pur boat being 60 feet is always light squeeze to. The guy at the lock is a lovely chap ill ha e to quiz him next time I see him
@@TheNomadicCrobot he makes wine or is it Cider you’ll have to ask him lovely bloke, the water was coming into the engine room from the side vents, had to wait until high tide hence the pump. Bless him, saved my Home. 👍🏼
I hope you get these small leaks sorted "boat" stands for "Brake Out Another Thousand" my campervan should be a boat the amount its costing still its a adventure
Haha this is so true...we've definitely experienced the higher end of it all, supposedly the best days of owning a boat are the day if purchase and the day of Sellidge (is that even a word??)
First ever canal submarine to be!
Spot on haaaa
Is there a grease applicator for your stern gland? if so you need to pump some grease into the stern gland after each days cruising, that should help.
Thanks David we realised a bit late on that we needed to fill.our greasers up they have been empty a long time, thanks for your help
Was that the engine coolant you were toping up or for central heating if you have such a thing? Just wondering if there's a leak. 😕
the coolest was for engine I believe :) thanks for your comment
So in stock car racing, when a car’s engine blows in a massive cloud of steam and smoke, is customary to pull up to them and ask “did the smoke valve let go?”
Is there an equivalent to that in narrowboating? Like asking a person if all the “one way water valves” are installed in the correct direction.
oh wow I wouldn't know really sorry, but thanks for your question :)
i need to ask does your stern gland take grease. i know you said below chris you have a rubber gland ..i just know my old boats gland used to leak like a sieve after every journey and i had to remember to turn my little knob after every journey (no pun intended lol) to stop it..great viewing by the way and good luck..xx
Yes it does! We were told by the guys at the marina that really when you are continuously cruising you should turn the greasy knob(!) around every 2 hours! I didn't realise it should be that frequently! Thanks Dawn x
You need an automatic float switch. So it automatically comes on when it hits a level
We do indeed , it's on our todo list which is growing rapidly by the day haaa
Great vlog.... could the water be from rainfall through the decking?
Part of it could be but mainly its the stern gland We believe, thaks for your comment
Boat stands for brake out another thousand 🥴
People keep telling us haaa there's not wrong
Grease that stern gland immediately! That will slow the water ingress substantially or totally. I speak from experience!!
Your absolutely right,we had no grease left ,but all sorted now 👍 😀
I'm a new subscriber and very much enjoy your vlogs. I'm American and live in Oklahoma. It gets very hot here in the summer. Over 100 F for weeks at a time. I'm wondering why you don't install a rooftop Air conditioning unit like those used on RV campers.
Thanks for joining us both. A way if air conditioner the boat would be amazing they get hot, someone suggested that the coolest area is under the floor as it sits in the cold water, so if there was ever a way to bring coldness Into the boat that would probably be the best option 😀
Not worth the cost in the UK not many hot days, this year has broken that rule a bit, if it keeps getting hotter I imagine that people may have a re-think :)
So who ignored the tarantula attacking Beccs and Googled The Canal Boat Girl? Available from all good book shops and The Works. Anyone read this?
Haha! Tarantula wasp! What kind of mad hybrid is that?! 😂 I can recommend it as a nice little read 😉
Do you screw down the brass tap container that holds the grease to stop the leak
We thought we were but at the marina were told they were all empty 😕
@@TheNomadicCrobot you fill it with grease yourself and there is normally just the one. You can buy grease refills, ask at the boat yard they should point you in the right direction instead of getting that sinking feeling all the time. All the same its all new to you so you'll soon be a total expert at everything. Great to watch you both by the way
When bilge fails - sing "Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Rum " while seeing Davy Jones Locker -
Haaa that would help quite alot actually...a captain must go down with his ship
Dumb question .... Are you greasing the stern gland every time you stop moving?
We thought we were but we've just found out it's been empty for the last 6 months 😢
Umm - have you actually greased the stern gland? Is there any grease in the grease reservoir??
Looking at the bearing I would expect to see a wadge of grease - or any evidence that grease is getting to the packing...... Just asking..
We've actually just found out were out of Grease and have been tightening the empty containers, 😳
There was definitely grease around the gland and all over me too when I was rooting around the engine compartment at midnight in my pajamas! 😂 B x
Bow thruster plugging ruclips.net/video/x9GVSRuLw1A/видео.html
The blue/white is a $25 bilge pump w/ float switch that is can be used as backup ruclips.net/video/ZS7x1VqujJU/видео.html
Thanks for this, I'd actually seen it a while ago we thought it was the bow thruster but we have found out it isent now, though we don't use it and it would make sense to plug it at some point. The automatic bilge pump is what we would like to get...it would make the Titan redundant though??
your sinking !
Yeah...in theory haaa
👍👌❤🇨🇦
Sorry but I don’t like swearing
Our apologies Beryl, sometimes, especially in the more chaotic moments the odd swear slips out. We will try keep it down to a minimum!
I didn't notice any!
