ARE YOU SHITTIN ME? I grew up in the Mad Dogs & Englishmen/Joe Cocker/Beatles/Stones era. I always loved this song. I never thought I'd hear a cover that could do it justice. Respect & Love.
God didn't bless them with good voices, soulful voices come with time, practice, passion and in a lot of cases pain, it has fuck-all to do with religion.
Have you ever seen a happier, more psyched bass player than Oteil Burbridge, at 4:38 ??? ~ Jammin' out and gettin' down. ~ ( Oteil) … Sorry for the huge loss of your brother, the wonderfully talented keyboardist and flautist...Kofi Burbridge. ~~ RIP Brother Kofi ~~~
Derek has an uncanny ability to showcase every musician on the team, and add his unmatched sound at just the right time and Susan gets it too. They are about as awesome as it's ever going to get.
Sweet Jesus this is radioactive it's so hot! WOW! Everybody's killing it. Derek's out of his mind! Susan is one of the finest vocalists I've ever heard (And a damn good guitarist.) But I'm taken by the utter joy that is O'Teil Burbridge! I love seeing gifted people performing with such joy and love.
An amazing band paired with an amazing mix. It doesn’t get better than this folks. TTB are keeping great music alive, their mix of r&b and blues is so unique. The soul in their sound is unmatched. Susan Tedeschi is a great writer with an unbelievable voice. Derek Trucks, well, he’s Derek Trucks. The greatest guitarist of this generation, and arguably the greatest living guitarist, never ever fails to disappoint. He’s so technically proficient and has established his unique style, truly amazing. And of course, this husband and wife powerhouse recruited some fantastic musicians to play with them. True music lives people. Listening to the radio, most people are disappointed, as am I. However, all styles and genres have their gems. I’ve only recently discovered TTB and I can’t get enough. Love from Ohio.
Had this playing in a rotation while I was doing other things, heard the piano intro and first verse and thought Mad Dogs and Englishmen had come up. Then the second verse Susan's voice came in, I had to run to the computer and give it thumbs up, BRAVO! Great version! What a message, needed now as much as when it was written
She certainly filled in the gaps from the original live version - although those gaps/chorus lapses are part of the charm of that rendition - with fire and soul. Awesome version. A real plus seeing/hearing David and Cesar with this band!!
Yeah , seriously this song is , what I consider , one of my most favorite hidden gems and I couldn't imagine any other ensemble expressing homage with such a genuine execution. Reeeeeeeeeespect
It's absolutely marvellous ! Tedeschi Trucks Band is a Miracle ! A gift to the World. It's hard to believe that such a band could exist today. Such an incredible feeling, such a passion in their music. They are living legends.
This is and has been my favorite Sunday Jam for years. Min 4:44 makes my soul shine a little brighter every time. No better song for the days we live in. TOGETHER its the only way to live! SHo do miss me some Kofi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A beautiful, one of the best, "hippie song", with a genuine 'root love message for Humanity'. Makes me remember and celebrate the memory of the greats Joe Cocker and Leon Russel (R.I.P. both), and, why not, all the "Mad Dogs and Englishmen". A memorable rock show/record/movie!
Susan Tedeschi & Derek Trucks are doing a documentary about those very subjects... Joe Cocker, Leon Russell, Mad Dog & the Englishmen. They just released a preview on their RUclips channel - Tedeschi Trucks Band - about a week ago. It looks very cool. Not surprisingly, they are both VERY big fans of the era. ✌
Two best things about this performance: The absolute joy on everyone's faces; Worlds shortest guitar solos: "you each get two bars, don't waste 'em" Oh, plus killer slide, smoking vocals, Chris Stainton, and the best message song ever.
Sho'Nuff you right about that brother man. They be holding that Grateful Dead Torch. Let the Light shine until the Dawn comes. Always believe in Peace and Love, and when you can your fellow man. Serenity, tranquility, peace.
Holy crap!! This is my first time viewing this - definitely the first of many times. This instantly became my favorite version of Space Captain! Thanks for posting.
What a band. Watch clips of the 1970 Mad Dogs and Englishmen Tour (Joe Cocker) and you will get a sense from where this energy originates. And look at Chris Stainton 46 years later, he is unchanged.
It is interesting and amazing, really, how a few notes of music, in this particular case Chris Stainton's opening piano notes to "Space Captain," the Matthew Moore hit from Cocker's Mad Dogs & Englishmen, can transport us through time to replicate the same emotion and depth of raw AWE we felt when we first heard it, if it is impactful and awesome enough. I'm 61 and the opening piano notes to this song transported me back to age 12 when the Mad Dogs & Englishmen album technically, Joe Cocker's, (but we know it was also Leon's and Friends) dramatically changed the way I looked at music and life. This was mainly due to Leon Russell and his spectacular band he gathered and the work he did arranging Cocker's tour, but Cocker gets some of the cred as a fantastic showman! I still am so grateful to hear Tadeschi Trucks Band so I get all the lyrics for the first time with their version! (Must've been the British accent... ) What changes did one album begin in a 12 year old's life? Musically, I tossed all the bobby sherman posters and archived his records as I wallpapered my room in Leon Russell and friends. Life-wise, I realize the topics of such bubblegum music so popular with my peers were strictly distracting me from growth as a human being and I made a commitment to be more compassionate and look out for my fellow man and woman because "they might be the Prince of Peace returning." (See Leon's blue album "Prince of Peace." Great to see Chris is still trucking and wish I could've seen his face. Love that band! Thank you!
Once I was traveling across the sky This lovely planet caught my eye And being curious I flew close by And now I'm caught here till I die Until we die, until we die We are just learning to live together Learning to live together Learning to live together I lost my memory of where I've been We all forgot we could fly We'll all change into peaceful man And we'll return into the sky Until we die, until we die We are just learning to live together Learning to live together Learning to live together Till we die Until we die, until we die We are just learning to live together Learning to live together Learning to live together Learning to live together It's getting better together We've got to get together It's getting better together Oh, until we die, until we die We are just learning to live together Learning to live together Learning to live together Learning to live together Learning to live together Learning to live together Learning to live together Learning Until we die, until we die We are just learning to live together Learning to live together Learning to live together Learning to live together Learning to live together Learning to live together Learning to live together
Truly magical. The emotional out-pour here is just insane. What a talent packed event. What!?! I can't stop watching it over and over, the hairs on my arms are exhausted! My favorite part (besides all of it) is at 4:47 when the 4 guys are all looking over at Susan/Derek and you can just tell that they are realizing that this is a truly special thing that is happening. To have seen this in person must have altered brain synapses.
Chris Stainton rocks. As does Hildago. Quite a lineup. If you haven' seen it, there a good Netflix documentary on joe cocker. Stainton figures prominently in it.
Allman Brothers, otiel, Warren and Derrick , what do you expect? Chemistry is unbelievable especially with two of the best guitar players on the planet. Would have loved to see nashvilles jack pearson together with Warren and skydog jr. Otiel was the perfect bass player for the Allman Brothers Band and I hope with the passing of Gregg Allman in 2017, they put together members from the ABB family because they "just dont Make em like they used to". Thiers no substitute for old school southern rock and roll period!!
❤ wish they had been at Crossroads 2023. I see TTB at least once a year and they are kind Sudan and Derek ❤"Swampette" and Derek you and sSusan and Warren are in my top 10 guitarist of all time the vocals are top 5 for sure

Absolutely! They kept it pretty close to the original. Definitely did it Justice! Amazing!
Yep
Ever hear the Black Crowes do it?
me too nick....came across this by accident as they would say in the 70s "fukin" A man lol
Anything Susan touches sounds good. She never misses
Warren Hayes & Susan Tedeschi voices rock together, what powerful vocal chords God blessed them with!
God didn't bless them with good voices, soulful voices come with time, practice, passion and in a lot of cases pain, it has fuck-all to do with religion.
Haynes gives a bit of the Cocker feeling to this on his vocals. Great band all around and a pleasure to see Chris Stainton still doing it with style.
Warren Haynes is underappreciated. Vocals and guitar--the whole package.
If I remember correctly Joe Cocker's keyboard player jumped in on this one that day! I love this tune!
One of my absolute favourite performances for ANY of the Crossroads festivals - Simply Amazing!!
Didn't you watch the rest of it?
No matter what the song or venue TTB always makes me smile.

Oteil is carrying on the joy with Dead and Company 😊
Derek has an uncanny ability to showcase every musician on the team, and add his unmatched sound at just the right time and Susan gets it too. They are about as awesome as it's ever going to get.
I love how they are all smiling and enjoying themselves.
..........just like all the bands in the 1970s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that's the way it is supposed to be.
The Crossroads festivals were some of the best things to come together live in person and on tv ever . The best talent on earth were at those shows
Sweet Jesus this is radioactive it's so hot! WOW! Everybody's killing it. Derek's out of his mind! Susan is one of the finest vocalists I've ever heard (And a damn good guitarist.) Whenever I’m feeling really down, I listen to this about five times in a row and my mood is lifted. Love them all.
It does not matter at all with who they are playing. This band can play with anybody and that chemistry will just blow you out...

Warrens awesome too! Gov't Mule kicks butt.

I'm in love with Susan Tedeschi, she with the brilliant voice and excellent guitarist, oh and Derek's not bad either! 😁
I do not think their is any other Band that truly enjoys performing together then TTB. They are having so much fun.
Good God I love this song; I also love how geeked Susan was at the start, once Stainton started in on the piano intro.
cuz she was like holy shit this is Chris playing I'm here and this is where Joe cocker was..
That guitar solo by Derek Trucks near the end is one of the best I've ever heard.
It is absolute filth 😂😂😂 so so good!
