Great reaction! I recommend watching the official video. The voice message at the beginning is an authentic message that Justin Furstenfeld received from his mother. The video interpretation of the song is that he is talking about his mother and how she helped him through his addictions and depression. Angry at himself for putting her through everything, he wants her to hate him because he hates himself for doing that to her. I've read that it's actually about the pain he put his girlfriend through during the time his addiction and depression were at their worst. You are correct as far as this song being heavier than the Blue October songs you've reacted to in the past. This was earlier in Justin's career when he was going through addiction/depression issues. His music definitely traces his life history and the emotions and feelings that he was going through during each chapter of his life. He has come a long way from where he was in the past with help from friends, family and just sticking with it! Thanks for the reaction. I'm glad you enjoyed the song. I was worried that because it was darker and a little more depressing than his recent music, you wouldn't like it. If you ever get a chance, and you like Blue October's music, it would be good for you to listen to their albums in the order that they came out. You really get a feel for where they started, where they've been and where they are now! I hope you have a great holiday! Merry Christmas to you and yours! Take care!
I thought I had read that his mother passed away. And I think part of the song's lyrical content is him contending with the guilt he feels about taking his mom for granted and not telling her how much he loved her and appreciated everything she did while she was living. The end is his mom's voice from a video, and the way it fades out slowly, is like her memory fading away. This could be wrong because I've never followed up to find out the truth.
His mother is still alive. And this song is actually about his girlfriend at the time. I heard this information straight from Justin’s mouth on his Open Book tour. But they used his mom for the music video. Which does make it seem like the song is about her, but it isn’t.😊
A very moving song. Not a fan of theirs...but this is a beautiful song. I always saw the song as him thinking back upon what his mother did for him after she's passed. His regrets but finally understanding/appreciating her undying love for him even in his worst moments in life and "hating" himself for putting her through that, when all she ever did was love him unconditionally. Def please do these 3 Metallica songs .... "Bleeding Me", "The Outlaw Torn", and "Fixxxer". They are musical and lyrical masterpieces .... more bluesy/rock instead of metal, but with Metallica's one of a kind stamp on them .... GREAT Metallica songs (you'll really love the lyrics as well, especially Fixxxer and Bleeding Me)
His Mother is very much alive. He says he wrote this song as an apology to his support system for the everything he put them through battling addiction and mental health
This song and Candlebox reminds me of my sister, unfortunately her head has been F'cked with and she isn't the same. I heard she is okay but not to what extent.
He's singing to all the people he's hurt through his addiction. Mostly his mother.
This song is a master piece.

I recommend "Fear" by Blue October, it is his song about his life after recovery from his mental issues and addiction. Very powerful and emotional.
Justin suffers from depression in real life and takes medication for it. He also suffered from addiction but got clean
Wow deep track, thanks to the people commenting about the meaning!
A very honest song painful
