    Hi Janelle! Regarding the darts, I learned this technique where you start from the wider point of the dart, backstitch, sew down the length of the dart and then before you reach the “tip” of the dart you gradually decrease the stitch length until you reach the smallest one, and then you continue sewing just over the edge of the fabric and tie the threads in a knot like normal. I just learned this one and it’s been giving me really clean results so I thought I’d share! Especially considering how many darts you sew with every dress lol, maybe you’d like to give it a go. Anyway, I really love this pattern! I fell in love with the dress since that earlier video of yours. I’m really proud of you for your work, you’re such an inspiration 💖

      I am fairly new to sewing and just tried this tip while making the willow dress. It is a total game changer. I used to be so afraid of darts because I never got good results with getting a neat "tip". Thank you so much!!

    • @daisyroe3777
      @daisyroe3777 3 года назад +1

      Nikatronixx I’m so happy to hear that!! It was a game changer for me as well. Darts are used all the time in dressmaking, and when you get them right it makes the whole piece that much nicer. It’s so satisfying. Good luck with your other projects! I wish you all the best 💖✨

    Your pattern looks SO much easier than a McCall's one I got in the spring. I'm a newbie sewer and long story short, I ended up with one yard of useable fabric and the left and right front pieces of the pattern. Bonus points: the fabric was a limited edition print.

    • @ThisismeDesign
      @ThisismeDesign 3 года назад +2

      This is the best tip I can give you and the one I got when I first started to sew.
      Make a muslin before you cut into your main fabric of choice, after you made your first try and have seen how it looks on its time to make any changes if needed. This will make sure that you get the experience you need to make a beautiful well fitting piece with that fabric you first wanted.
      One more thing, when you create a muslin you should use a material that is as much alike the fabric you want to sew you garment in as possible. It is key to be sure it fits well.
      Normally I use old bedsheets, fabric from old or thrifted clothes and if I find a roll of something really cheep I buy that.

      Aouch ! That sucks ! I did buy a few industrial pattern when I started sewing (McCall's, Burda and whatnot) and I got so confused by their instructions, I could never finish a single project. I went back to circle skirt and cloning some of my simplest garments until I discovered independant pattern-makers such as Janelle. Reeeal game changer 👌🏽 Especially since I'm far too lazy to sew toiles beforehand 😅

    It’s so satisfying to watch your tutorial videos! I can’t believe how speedy you are with the darts. I need to mark the stitching lines when I make mine otherwise I will be very wonky! 🤣 I just wanted to add that I always sew my thin woven fabrics with French seams (including pockets and sleeves). I own an overlocker but I prefer that method as I think it looks nicer inside plus it encases the seams nicely. Both dresses are so beautiful. You’re very clever being able to design and pattern cut and grade your patterns 😊

    Ahhhh I just bought the digital pattern and I'm soooooo excited to make it! It's such a beautiful, classic, and versatile silhouette - I can imagine myself wearing this for every occasion and every season by changing the length of the dress, the type of sleeve, and type of fabric I use!!!
    Also, just to echo what pretty much everyone in the comment section is saying: thank you so much for sharing these wonderful videos and patterns and sewing knowledge with us! I love watching all your videos and following along your instructional videos! They are so easy to follow and make the impossible seem possible. Additionally, you have inspired and motivated me to make my own clothes - so much so that I've bought a serger, which just arrived yesterday! Haha the serger came just in time for me to make the willow dress! ^_^

    I like this style a lot and doesn't look too complicated, so I might try making it- although I'll have to wait for spring here in the northern hemisphere. ;-)
    Is there a particular reason why you make an extra "button hole" for the straps instead of just leaving some centimeters of the side seam open? I presume it would be safer to keep the fabric as intact as possible so it doesn't rip easily. What do you think?

    When you overlock does it increase the seam allowance? I don't know how to explain what I am asking, but I'm new and I don't quite understand how overlocking works. If I use an overlocker will it makes all the pieces smaller? I'm scared too make a dress too small to wear since I am already inbetween the sizes.

    Lovely dresses and I can't believe how beautiful your seconhand bedsheets look ! But I have to admit I am very confused by the name colour of your linen. You keep calling it ''mustard'' but on screen it looks like a rich brown (what I would call ''cognac'' or even ''camel'') and not at all like a dark yellow. Is the camera altering the colour that much ? Or is mustard a shade of brown in Australia ? I am really wondering because in France it is the dark yellow but sometimes, colour names change a lot from one language to the other !

    Hi Janelle! I fell completely for a wrap dress in a shop made in a fake silk fabric. It was quite costly and it was not in my size, so now I want to sew one instead. The only problem with wrap dresses is that my waist is the same width as my bust size, and my bust is quite small, meaning the size fitting my waist and hips would be 14 cm too large in the bust area. Would it still be ok to use, or would it be too gaping in the bust? I read that this pattern is meant for sturdier fabrics, but do you think it would be ok to sew it in a sandwashed silk fabric? Thanks for all your wonderful sewing videos, they are really quite helpful ❤

    • @RoseryApparel
      @RoseryApparel  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hi there! Thanks for being interested in my Willow pattern. There is a bit of shaping in the bust, but due to the wrap design it is possible to adjust the fit by wrapping it a bit tighter.. and yes, silk fabric should work beautifully 😊 x

    Hi, I just found this pattern today. Looking around on Pinterest, it’s difficult to see if bodice/skirt seam falls closer to the natural waist or above. I tend to like more of an empire “waist” - if I wanted, could I just shorten the bodice to raise the waist seam?

    • @RoseryApparel
      @RoseryApparel  11 месяцев назад

      Hi there! The seam falls just slightly above the natural waist, but you could shorten the bodice easily enough if you wanted to 😊

    Okay, Janelle . I had trouble with my bank thinking my purchase was fraudulent . I think it is because I am way in the USA .They are closed now so can not speak to them . My bank information was denied so I will try again on monday to purchase with another form of payment . Just letting you know in case something comes up like customer tried to purchase and it failed . Apologies 🙂

      Sorry you’re having trouble purchasing it! I haven’t had anyone else contact me with this issue, so sounds like it must depend on the bank. Hopefully they can fix it for you! 😊

    Hello lovely what type of fabrics would work and drape well with the pattern pls?

    • @RoseryApparel
      @RoseryApparel  3 года назад +1

      There’s a list of suitable fabrics in the description of the pattern here: www.roseryapparel.com/shop/the-willow-paper-pattern 😊 Lighter fabrics such as rayon and crepes will have a flowy look, whereas linen and cotton gives a more structured look.

    Hi Janelle. I made this dress yesterday and wore for the first time today. It looks amazing however I can't find a way for it to be comfortable.. It is very loose at the front and my bra gets exposed so I have to wear it very very tight to stop this and I can't breath or sit down comfortably... What did I do wrong?

    • @RoseryApparel
      @RoseryApparel  3 года назад +1

      Hi there! I’m not sure you did anything wrong, sometimes patterns take a bit of tweaking to make them work perfectly for your body 😊 I suggest maybe taking the bodice in at the shoulder seams (try a couple of cms to start and adjust more if you need). Also, you can add some snap fasteners to the bodice front that might help with the exposed bra! 😊

    Any experienced sewers that could give me some tips about choosing a size? According to the roseryapparel size guide my bust measurements are a size 8 and hips/waist a 12 (classic pear). Can I sew the top and bottom part of the dress in different sizes, or would that mess things up?

    • @RoseryApparel
      @RoseryApparel  3 года назад +1

      Hi there! You should be able to merge to sizes without affecting the overall look of the dress 😊 I share a little bit on how to merge sizes in this video here: ruclips.net/video/_GSiPt_hguw/видео.html 🧡
