I just ordered one on Saturday, had you guys to spool it up too. It got to my house here in central WV on Monday. Super awesome service and super fast turnaround!
I have 6 Orvis reels. To me their reels are the best made, best priced reels on the market. I have owned these reels for over 25 years now and ordered several with my name engraved on them. I have several battenkill reels in the mix and reels ranging from 4-10 wt.. Never had a single failure or problem with them and several stainless Orvis reels I use exclusively for saltwater fishing and the finish and performance have held up beautifully. The paws and drag systems are flawless and frankly, they will certainly outlive me! They are heirlooms that I can use every day.
Going to go out on a limb here guys, random I know. Eagle Claw Featherlight fly rod? Picked one up the other day and I swear I almost enjoy it more than my mid to high end fiberglass rods. It truly is something else. The incredible and impeccable click pawl Battenkill would pair so nicely with it. I have half a dozen to my name so I went ahead and purchased the Pfluger Medalist to pair with it.
I just bought the disc Battenkill in copper 5/6. Looks pretty nice. Very excited to have a traditional reel from Orvis. I have an encouter rod and reel combo that is a solid set up and fight fish really well. I also have a Lyft 6WT 9' rod I may pair it with. Thanks Orvis!!!
I’ve had more than a few Battenkill reels and still own a Battenkill V Spey reel click and pawl and love it. I would love to see the V clicker come back.
I bought the battenkills 1 and 2 about 10 years ago. Several years ago I bought a reddington zero and it lasted about a month. The battenkills are just like new. I think reliability tends to be underappreciated in these reviews.
Would the disc version of this reel be OK with very occasional saltwater use? Would be quite rare but I plan to slap this on my travel rod and may find myself in places where I can fish saltwater. Thanks for the great video!
Should be but feel free to contact Brian or the folks at the shop with that question. They don't monitor the comments here but will of course at the shop. Thanks.
Wish the old school reels had some drag to them. When setting the hook I have to keep my trigger finger on the line pressed against the rod or it will let out line causing slack. Also when casting I have to keep line in my left hand and cast with my right hand or line will spool out on the back cast.
Please contact the folks at the shop with questions and they will be happy to help. You can email them or call them. We don’t have that intel here but they will. Thanks!
The older reels were made in England. not sure where the reels made in the past 15 years or so are made I found the schematics for the made in England versions by changing my location.
My all-time favorite reel - great value! 🎣
An old standby at this point. Hard to beat!
I own 2 Battenkill disc reels and their spare spools. I have had these for at least 15 years, and they still perform extremely well. George in Montana

Well.....he's been selling them since 1990 so he should know? Thanks for watching.

Are the new Battenkill click spools compatible with the previous reels?
Please contact the folks at the shop with questions and they will be happy to help. You can email them or call them. We don’t have that intel here but they will. Thanks!
My only real criticism is that manufacturers need to stop using slot style screws. It's 2024, there's no excuse.
Thanks for watching.
Why not?
So no black nickel in the new spring 2023 disc and/or click & pawl upgraded series ?
Seems not as he didn't show in the video? Just checked the website and don't see there so must not be.
Do the new spare reel spools fit the old Battenkill reels?
You'd have to check with the folks at the shop on that. We do not have that intel here. Call or e-mail and they will be happy to help!!! Thanks.
Is it my eyes or is the Orvis text on the front of all of the disc ones not squared to the handle and counterweight?
Not sure on that?
I found a BattenKill 5 and can't find any info on it
Contact the folks at the shop and they should be able to help you out?
Very nice
Thanks for watching.
Thank you!
Thanks for watching.
Are you going to review the Helios4?
We don't think he'll do that....but you never know. Feel free to reach out to him directly...he'll be happy to share what he knows.

Sorry to hear. Let us know if you want to replace it.
I love Battenkill fly reels but the newer version are ugly.
Funny.....most folks think they have made a huge improvement in the looks. To each is own?
