Peter Pan - Main Title Music (The Second Star to the Right)

- One of my favorite Disney songs, The Second Star to the Right, comes from Walt Disney's 1953 fantasy picture telling the story of the boy who doesn't want to grow up.
Does anyone else feel like the intro songs to the openings to these older disney movies are the most cherished thing of your childhood?
Yes
The Nostalgia Lady I agree ^-^....now adays its like....rlly???
SuperYannick What do you mean???
yes, those old disney songs gives me Goosebumps.
The Nostalgia Lady I take it there's a reason your name is The Nostalgia Lady XD
Old films, especially animated, just had a quality that can’t be beat.
The music can’t be beaten either
Of course.... Old classic Disney's movies are much more interesting that the current films
The music, the animation, the nostalgia makes everything suddenly better
Yep you got that right
@@ignacioaltes6500 even though they are old and outdated technology wise it's as if they put more effort and magic into the films
This makes me so emotinal, the disney choir has this beautiful nostalgia quality about it. It makes me feel like I'm 5 again. Damnit, I want to cry then go to disneyland.
Wish I had enough money to go to Disney Land, Disney Land isn't for us common folks.
Me too I always cry when I hear it is so beautiful
Also makes me think of poor Bobby driscoll.. The voice of Peter pan.. Poor guy died at age 31.. I blame Disney for what they did to him
@@wells686 what did they do to him
Rumor has it his contract was terminated shortly before the release of Peter Pan because of his severe acne.
This is one of Disney's most under appreciated songs 🌟💛
Rebecca Kinsey fr this song almost makes me cry I love so much
exactly, it's so amazing!!

When I was young, I wanted to be a grown up. Now, I FULLY understand why Peter Pan never left Neverland, he somehow knew what was going to happen and avoided it.
You hit the nail on the head, pal.
have you ever read the book? the original
+uncensorer He is the great exception. Like Mary Poppins is in the original books. There must always be one. There always has to be that spirit of childish adventure and naivity, and that place where everything we truly want is there.
+uncensorer I don't want to grow up!
I'm 21 and believe me, I'll do anything to be a child again. But the only thing I can do now is remember those beautiful moments I had when I was a child.
whenever i listen to this song i always choke up and feel like crying i don't know why but its so beautiful
Like you're growing up and the unflawed innocence you had then is fading and the only way to get it back was to listen to songs like this and the older disney alice in wonderland song intro :)

Ah, nostalgia. Not at all what it used to be.
😁
The second star to the right
Shines in the night for you
To tell you that the dreams you plan
Really can come true
The second star to the right
Shines with a light that's rare
And if it's Never Land you need
It's light will lead you there
Twinkle, twinkle little star
So we'll know where you are
Gleaming in the skies above
Lead us to the land we dream of
And when our journey is through
Each time we say "Goodnight"
We'll thank the little star that shines
The second from the right

Never too old for Disney 💖
Gets sweeter with age like a fine wine
@@stevencross3572 yessir!
I agree :-)
Who actually says that?
1953 this came out. Disney too old for us
This was my grandmother's favorite Disney movie and her favorite version of the story, said it was where the real magic was, and willed her heart to never grow out of childhood. She made her way to Neverland on her birthday this year, and Papa wanted to go with her, so listening to the songs and watching the movie in a different light is sad, but comforting. I get her, now.
I'm not crying. you are
@@betaman2009 WHAT!!! Who?? Me?😭 Nah.,It's just these onion bruv😭😭
This was my favourite Disney movie as a young boy. Peter Pan to me was the prime example of magic in Disney movies.
Fun fact: this song was originally written for Alice in Wonderland and was called “ Beyond the Laughing Sky”. They decided it was too slow for Alice’s first number, so instead, she sings “In a World of my Own” but they didn’t want to scrap the song, so it was kept on the back burner until Peter Pan! ❤️
I’ll never forget the first time I watched this- it was so magical and I fell in love with the Disney choir intro, and the whole theme of never growing up
Another one is Bambi.... My eyes are red...
This is such a great song. I miss these types of songs in Disney movies and I strive to write these types of songs in my movies. I think people would love to hear these types of songs instead of "Let it Go"
The Butch Berry Company yes very much so
Those kinds of people will probably eat me alive for this but I prefer the songs of a musical to be played in the style of the score. That's what this composer(s) did, that's how the Sherman brothers did it and it's how Alan Menken continues to do it with spiritual guidance from his late lyricist and dear friend, (who wrote the lyrics to the songs fro The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin) Howard Ashman.
Claro que no, es la rola del chavo cuando se va de la vecindad :(
This song was also from El Chavo Del Ocho the lyric were UUUUUUUUUU UUUUUUUU UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU UUUUUUUUUU UUUUUUUUU UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
I’m being serious honestly
This is making my eyes get teary. Peter Pan is still my favourite childhood book and film. I had numerous casettes with the films, so when I was about 3 or 4 years old I kept them on replay every weekend. This old sound and quality is making me travel back in time 15 years ago.
The beauty of innocence.
The skill to create such beauty
I love these old intros. So beautiful! I never really appreciated them when I was younger.
I miss this type of music and singing. You can tell it's old and I love that.
The first 22 seconds. Disney please bring back this level of magic we need it.
People often seem to refuse to grow up in the 21st Century AD. The only requirements for growing up are responsibilities and tolerance of whenever you can’t get your way. The Lost Boys just wanted to be naughty and probably never permanently left Neverland! If Neverland were real, I’m sure it would be congested today!
Whoever composed and directed this really was a genius - it captures the many competing and nuanced emotions present in the story very beautifully.
The piece manages melancholy, nostalgia and optimism. It mirrors the narrative arc in many ways, which is fundamentally about appreciating and grieving for our childhood and acknowledging moving into adulthood as a form of loss, but ultimately is hopeful about it.
A tall order. But all also here in the song, which succeeds in being mostly sad in tone, even though the lyrics are fairly cheery/hopeful.
Great description
Recently watched Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and Alice in Wonderland and now I just keep wanting to listen to these older classic Disney songs. I really miss these older movie intro songs....
The nostalgia of this old movies are immaculate 🥹
Beats every other cartoon out there by far.. The majority preferred Lion King, but I always thought Peter Pan was just so much more.. Just magical.. It's something every adult can also relate to.. We all long for our childhood..
I totally agree. This movie just has a magic to it that no other Disney movie has in my opinion...
Yup...
Yes, we do. Particularly those who grew up in the more innocent decades of the '70s, '80s, and '90s, like me. Those who remember things like Saturday Morning Cartoons, Toys R Us, Star Trek and Major Matt Mason.
My brother preferred Pinocchio but personally, I always loved Beauty and The Beast the most.
Manu Komalan for real tho. This Disney song gives me a tingly feeling. And I’m only 15 but it’s been in my top Disney movies forever.
This music soothes me..I listen to this every time I am stressed. This brings back my childhood. I remember wishing every night that you'll peek at my window. I've always believed in you, I love you to Neverland and back Peter!
Same. I never should have grown up, even if it's only a few years. I refuse to let myself grow up any longer! Btw, have you seen the classic, Hook? If you haven't, go check it out. it's a good movie. Plus, it's got Robin Williams. Go check it out on Netflix.😉
Alexander Kent I've seen Hook, I loved it, and it had Robin Williams! have you seen Peter Pan 2003 version? i feel like it's the most true to the book. the visual effects are amazing too.
Peter Pan has to be my no.1 favourite Walt Disney movie ever. I am so incredibly grateful to live in the same era as these masterpieces. :D
R.I.P. Walt Disney. The company is not the same without you. 😔
Back then, I would always ask my mom if I could watch this old Peter Pan movie, and then she’ll just give me the DVD and I’ll play it- I miss doing that over and over again
Dude I'm 17 and have never seen Peter Pan (Pinocchio had my heart as a child) but first seeing it recently, the melody actually was really charming :)
So many of my childhood memory's can be connected to this one song. Countless camping trips in my home state of California, just listening to this as the trees and mountains passes by and also the one and only beautiful night I spend with the girl of my dreams, we watched this movie together.
As a kid I didn’t know English and I would watch these movies never knowing what was being said. I was only interpreting by the sheer body language and what was going on like obvious designs of Captain Hook being the bad guy but this song I always remember stuck with me when I loved watching these movies
No, el chavo del 8
What did you think watching it for the first time in English or having in translated and understanding what was actually being said? Was your child interpretation correct or where there things that surprised you and changed the story for you?
Same though, but I usually laugh in the funny scenes where their acts and gestures seem so funny. The shaving scene for example
@@Abigail_Issler ah man I’m really really sorry getting back to this comment so late. Especially cuz it’s a question I would love to answer and just never made the time for.
Growing up, for me I always tried interpreting what was going on just off of what I could from body language, faces, the tone in dialogues (like when Wendy screams for Peter), the designs of the characters, and just from what’s going on visually. It was like this for the cartoons I watched growing up in the 2000’s and even when I got more familiar with English during kindergarten I still would sorta not pay attention to the English since I was sorta accustomed to watching it the way I was.
The funny thing is that even for me growing up with Spanish as my first language. I didn’t really like having films in Spanish to watch and also i think my parents would just keep it English for me to learn. I kinda became accustomed to watching most forms of media in English unless it’s something that’s originally broadcasted in Spanish (like the news or other shows in spanish my dad would watch on channels people know like Univision). Unless it was something from like Mexico (Chavo del 8 is a classic amongst I think many if not all Spanish speakers. If it’s not the case well it certainly is for Mexicans and Guatemalans.
Nowadays tho, since I can understand the English and I like to listen to the English more for the voice actors it’s a bit more different cuz I know can understand and interpret the jokes within the dialogue and writing.
I hope I was able to give a lot of info for what your curious about. I hope I’m not forgetting anything either honestly in what I’m mentioning but if I can remember anything and if you’d want to know I can hopefully provide
@NVS4K thanks so much for your response, that’s very interesting and honestly makes a lot of sense! Thanks so much for sharing! 😁
I used to watch Peter Pan with my Aunt Linda when I was a child. Every time I heard this song, I would say: "there's Captain Hook's ship. That's the mermaids! There's Tinkerbell flying!" every. single. time. I still remember that and my aunt saying "that's right!" I haven't seen her since my family moved when I was 7. This song always reminds me of her 😢
I’m so sorry hun I’m sure she thinks about you every day
This song is 68 years old and still charming
Because the past had love and soul put into most of what it made
I grew up on Disney movies, but Peter Pan was one I watched quite often. Every time I'd put it on, I always got misty-eyed listening to this song during the opening. I don't know why, but something about the chorus from the older Disney movies just really gets me. It felt.... magical. :)
In college watching Disney childhood movies, the feels are real😿
Genesis Shuler *offers u a hug* those good old days when disney ACTUALLY suprised us
my mom always tells me think happy thoughts when she was alive but now she's in heaven
+Sharon Cole keep thinking happy thoughts!! :)
Hey, just keep thinking happy thoughts and you will fly. Someday, you'll see her again. Remember, think happy thoughts. Any wonderful little thought. 😉😊
Feel better! Keep being positive!!
She's resting with God! Someday you'll see her
Sorry to hear about your mom, I agree with your comment 😁. And I'm sure your mom will always be your spirit guide 😁
Nothing will ever top how calm this makes me feel.
This song makes me feel so many emotions, this was my childhood, I don’t want to grow up, I want to stay in Neverland with the lost boys and Peter Pan. Can I please go back to when I was little without a care in the world. When I was small I wished I could grow up already, but now that I’m older I want to go back to being a kid.
*Narrator:* All this has happened before. And it will all happen again. But this time it happened in London. It happened on a quiet street in Bloomsbury. That corner house over there is the home of the Darling family. And Peter Pan chose this particular house... because there were people here who believed in him.
When I was a little kid, I used to believe that Peter Pan was real and maybe, deep down, I still do. I used to always open my window at night when I was awake, waiting for Peter to come and take me to Neverland. But he never came...
Next month I turn 18 and that marks the end of my childhood. I will never forget the joy Peter Pan used to bring me. And although I won’t remember everything about my amazing childhood at some point, I know that these memories live inside of me and will forever be with me
I hope your childhood stays in you
SqualidTV so do I we all may be grown up but we all can be inner kids
Never understood why Disney stopped doing these cute and magical openings
Por las épocas pero me encantaban esas aperturas ese Disney nunca tuvo que cambiar
This song is so beautiful. It really has that old disney vibe we all love :)
This hit me right in my emotions. Idk sis, I grew up watching these classic Disney movies and every time I hear them soundtracks, I always feel emotional- nostalgic. They have a huge part in my life, and will always do. It's 2019, and I still prefer these classic cartoon movies. Nothing can replace it in my heart.
I wish I never left neverland

Miss pretending to help Peter fight Hook, miss laughing and playing Indian, God why did I have to grow up😿
it's all a matter of where your heart lies if it's still lies in Neverland comma then you have never left
Yo I'm not gonna lie this comment might make me cry because I'm emotional asf
Oh these Old Disney main title musics- It's so nostalgic, happy and sad at the same time, what a beautiful feeling
I’m in my school’s production of “Peter and the Starcatcher” and this just plays through my head constantly the entire time, it’s so nostalgic :)
When I was born in 2003. I thought these Disney movies were new in my time because of all the dvd movies
I came here to reminisce of my grandmother who used to take care of me since I was little. She recently died because of an infection. We would watch Peter Pan every night and laugh at every stunt that Captain Hook exhibited as well as his never ending rivalry with Peter Pan and the Croc. I am thankful for my grandma for such wonderful memories we made because of this movie. I will never forget her. RIP. 🥺
This was my favorite movie growing up. I just rewatched it on disney+ and..URGHGHG, I TEARED UP HEARING THIS ❤
Listening to this on the way to Disneyland really makes everything feel magical
then once you get to there you hear kids screaming and crying and aggressive moms trying to run you over with their strollers.

instant tears.
I spent a year trying to find what song this was; I know I heard it in my childhood (40 years ago!) but just couldn't find it. I'm so glad.
I wonder if other people experience the happiness that there is in these films like me?
Oh for sure. I grew up with a VHS player in my room and I would watch Peter Pan on VHS all the time. I get such a surge of nostalgia when watching this movie and listening to it’s soundtrack
I do , we do , we all do.....It never leaves' us...
This is so nostalgic. I miss my childhood. Disney songs never ceases to make me feel emotional and satisfied. Thank you Disney.
Just magic. No more words are needed.

During the night as a child, I would insert the VHS tape of Peter Pan in my bedroom’s tv and rewind this song on repeat before finally watching the film. It’s such a bittersweet song. I’d find myself in in tears, wishing I could escape my life and head straight to Neverland. Now in my 20’s, I find myself again in tears, making the same wish I had so many years ago.
It is a pity that Sir James Matthew Barrie, creator of Peter Pan, did not live long enough to hear this beautiful piece of musical art.
Sometimes i come back to re experience the bittersweet nostalgia feeling 😭 i watched so many disney movies when i was younger, and i just remembered it in the middle of the night, and i feel like crying because idk, it just feels so bittersweet, i csnt co back into the past and re experience my childhood. I remember being at disneyworld when i was young very vaguely but enough for me to feel bittersweet 😭😭 i also remember having a big imagination and being able to imagine myself in a peterpan movie excuse my grammar its 3 am andmy heart feels heavy 😭 i miss the past ☹️
This song reminded me of my 2 little sisters when they were babies and i told my mother and even cried one night on the phone too her because I was upset about something else....now when I hear it I'm reminded of my mum who is my 2nd star to the right...my angel in the sky ❤xxx
One memory I'll always cherish is whenever I went to one of my Grandmother's house, she always was ready to put this version of Peter Pan in the VCR.
im from the 90s but man this was my childhood!
Late 80s. So I can sympathize with you on that one
What a beautiful treasure this song is with the sweetest of melody and innocent harmony. Children would view life differently if cartoons were like before
almost seventy years old and still one of the most beautiful songs that remind us of our childhood...
this song upsets me and brings back so much happiness, it’s a weird feeling of nostalgia because i remember leaving my window open every night hoping peterpan would collect me
Oh my gosh me too!! I used to wear cute dresses to bed and do my hair so I would be prepared 😂
I miss my grandparents , I watched this movie so many times with them 😢😢
I would watch this every time I went to my grandparents house 🥺
Melancholic innocent and nostalgic❤ this is the voice from the childhood that gets further every day
I feel so good with this kind of music🥰 my childhood comes back
It's a funny world. English speaking people remember this as the moment Wendy and her brothers went flying to a magical world.
We Latin American people however remember it as the moment Chavo left the "vecindad" after being falsely accused for being a thief.
And let me tell, we are the ones who cried the most.
Jud Conlon did the vocal/choral arrangement here (as he did for Disney's "Alice in Wonderland" released a year or two before). I think a lot of credit for the "Disney sound" of this era goes to him.
Yes!! All the songs and themes have this magical chorus, choir sound. Love this era. It really sets that classic Disney mood. Alice was my favorite too and I always loved the sounds from Alice in Wonderland.
Nice to know that this song video of the original movie from 1953 was uploaded the same year when Tinkerbell and the Great Fairy Rescue was released.
Such a beautiful song
I'm 23 and I still watch it. Peter Pan is a movie which never dies.
I'm 29 and I still watch this lol. There's no need to claim your age, however. These sorts of stories are timeless and are aimed towards folks of all ages!
