    It is refreshing to see someone making a build like this by designing their own crossover and using a regulated power supply. Way to do it right! Looks great!

    • @johncoops6897
      @johncoops6897 6 лет назад

      The regulated power supply is certainly NOT the correct way to do it. And there was a lot of effort to "make" the crossovers, however it's so far unknown if there was actually any scientific basis for that design.

    • @SoundBlab
      @SoundBlab  6 лет назад +1

      123Toid Thanks, the power supply works well, but there are better options. This is an easy of the shelf solution though, and for the application sufficient. The crossovers was modeled and built after doing the box sims, measuring and modeling them in Xsim.

    You do very nice work and I agree with most everything. I did make a few observations, some of which may be be wrong due to video not capturing the item. Here they are: (1) you need to get some nut drivers, (2) I would solder all the speaker leads instead of the crimp terminals, (3) I would use spade terminals for the power supply connections, (4) I would not rely on hot glue for mounting the power supply. Heat can reactivity the glue and you don't want that thing bouncing around in there. Brackets and screws are best, but gel CA glue is better than hot glue. (5) Didn't appear you used foam gasket on sub speakers. I like to use threaded inserts on powerful speakers, especially with only four attachment points. That way you can torque them down more and use thread locker. Just my two, or five cents.

      Everything was measured and modeled as for a proper speaker design. I used REW to measure the FQ response and then modeled it in Xsim. I use WinISD to simulate the boxes.

      Thx, going to give it a try...I used one of the "all in" Wondom/Sure Electronics amplifiers (not 2.1 only 2ch) but I was very disappointed. Although it is fully packed with add-ons the amplifier didn't perform very well. Maybe for some people it will be enough but the audio quality for what I was building (small project) didn't work well. Dear Lord you in RSA must pay through your neck to get things from PartsExpress, their shipping outside of the States are crazy?

    • @SoundBlab
      @SoundBlab  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks man! The two subs, well two are better than one right! They actually run mono and connected in parallel. Various reasons, they essentially help cancel out opposite enclosure resonance and also since they are small subs, give larger radiating area combined. Two also raise the sensitivity to match better with the soundbar output.

      @ravenmooore 6 лет назад

      Thank you once again!
      Can I ask a few more things? My portable speaker has two, 2 inch Passive Radiators. Should I still put some foam? Will it make my passive radiator 'weaker'? Or it's really recommended to?
      I also have two tweeters, should it be isolated from the full-range drivers? Like it should have a partition?

    • @tobias5811
      @tobias5811 6 лет назад +2

      Paolo Pabalinas Foam is for passive radiators not as important as for ported boxes, but in my opinion foam is always better. You dont have to put the tweeters in an extra box, the tweeters have a plastic cap at their hole backside that is inside the box so the pressure from the fullrange drivers dont do anything to them. I hope i this will be useful for your build;D!

      Not this particular version. But you can just set the volume high on the amp and then control the volume with your TV remote. The TV essentially acts as a preamplifier to the amp.

    It's a nice build, I see you paid atention to some minor details, crimping the terminals is a good and fast way to go, specially since you're not dealing with high power.
    But, from a technician ponit od view, you made some mistakes. I'd not put any electronics inside acoustic boxes, cause the speakers will cause a significant amount of vibration, this can break solder joints and components terminals, specially the power supply, that you dont have acces to the components. To patch this up, a good way would be to secure the components with silicone glue, that would dampen the vibrations and prevent them from falling appart.
    Another mistake is to use hot glue, it's actually hard to ensure good adesion of hot glue, most times requiring you to pre heat the base materials.
    Some would say that this would also cause a cooling problem, but I don't think it's a thing to worry, we're talking about maybe 100 W, and switched electronics, so eficiency should be greater that 80%, thus, little heating.

    • @SoundBlab
      @SoundBlab  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks. Oh, I am sure I made many mistakes! It's often a result of not always having enough time to spend on the finer details or not always having the right part or tool at hand. Or I make the wrong design decision in the beginning and then it's too late to turn back and you make the best of it and hopefully learn from it.
