    Man, if I had just 10% of the kids energy. Love the new shop. Can't wait for the videos that come our of it. That beautiful daughter of yours will break some heart. You will have your hand full when the guys start lining up at your door. Not only you will remember the time you spent pushing her on the cart, it will forever be in her mind and heart. My daughter has children of her own now and she talks about those times every time we see each other. Daughters seem to never forget the time they spend with their father. It is great! Seriously sitting here thinking the same thing. Most of the time you get people who are in the trades who will literally nitpick everything another company is doing meanwhile you got this guy over here being blown away at every step of the way. I generally do all my own work to my house but for a project like this, I would for sure have to call in some crews to build. I love watching a well-oiled crew working together without as much as a couple of words a bunch of grunts and some high fives at the end.

    Living the dream, bro. Not much better than to have a shop to have some room to do things, really great to have that option. But the best thing that you have going for you is that you seem to have a good set of kids that are having fun and want to be around you. When my Dad got into, or should I say back into, woodworking, he asked me to help him with the electric. He paid an electrician friend to run a sub-panel to the garage. It had about 20 spaces in it and I was going to use most of them. The 4 gang boxes we put in, I put two circuits in each. The reason being if you are using a large tool like a skill saw and maybe light to make seeing easier, the last thing you want is a breaker to trip and the light goes out with a skill saw in your hands. So he would always use the other circuit for other tools, whatever they were. Also for safety, the lights in the garage were on the original circuit panel and we left them there for the same reason, keep lights on if the sub-panel were to trip. We put the A/C on its own circuit. We put the dust collector on its own circuit. We put the table saw on its own circuit. the a/c and dust collector are large loads, running when the table saw running, and anything to keep loads far from breaker ratings was a good thing. At about 4-5 dollars a circuit breaker, and the wire was only another 20-30 feet the cost was not a big thing to worry about, safety first. We also added 2 circuits to the battery charging station also, to make sure he could charge all of his batteries overnight (or during lunch break) and not have anything trip on him. Coming back to dead batteries is extremely frustrating, first hand knowledge.
    I say all this to let you think about this in the design phase of future builds. The cost of a 12 circuit is about 25 and a 20 circuit is 50, everything else being equal pay now or pay later. Remember lights should be by themselves. Dust collector, a/c, table saws and other large machines should have their own circuits, especially if there will be more than one working in shop, Friends. If you can't do everything you want up front because of money, at least do the sub-panel and run conduit large enough for future upgrades.

    • @AGlimpseInside
      @AGlimpseInside  4 года назад +1

      Are you a fly on the wall here LOL. I have multiple 40 amp 240 V circuits three of them actually. For the tablesaw big dust collector and air conditioner. That’s crazy. Thank you for your insight on everything electric I really appreciate the info as the people who read this as well I’m sure will as well

      Code around here (Philly area) forces you to use these damn arc-faults so breakers were like $50 a pop. I'm afraid to even find out how much they are now, now that Covid affected prices.

    Very well done sir. You sound like a person I would enjoy watching each week. I love seeing the kids running around now before the potentially dangerous equipment is brought in. I fell in love with woodworking at 10 yrs old. My grandpa had a woodworking shop in an old post and beam building, that originally was a blacksmiths shop on the farm, and he taught me to love creating things from wood. The farm was built in the late 1600s and has been in my family ever since. It started as 100 acres and eventually grew to 1100 acres. I inherited those original handtools that my ancestor brought over with him to build the house and eventually all of the buildings and furnishings in those buildings on the original farm area. I still use them in my shop today and will care for them until I pass and a niece or nephew will inherit them. These as well as the farm has to stay in the family and can never be built on except for the 250 acres that bis set aside for family members to build their houses on. There are about 8 of us who each have a chunk of that land and there are restrictions as to what can be built on it. There are several families that help pay the taxes for the farm which is 2 1/3s a hardwood and fruit trees now. And some farm animals are still kept to feed us and to keep the property as a farm. I hope your shop is something you can leave to your son or daughter when they are older. Your daughter seems to like sweeping. She could be your first employee!

    You Are living the dream Brother I’m 56 years old and haven’t owned that nice of a shop yet as ive always just made do with whatever I had at the time I was lucky enough to work for a large Architectual Woodworking Shop for over 20 years and i had access to their shop and tools after hours which was loaded with almost anything i needed and the owner only charged me his cost on materials and nothing on hardware ! Which was nice the theory being it made happier employees and it did for me on rare occasions when i needed specialty items i could order them and have them shipped right to the loading docks and marked for my use only ! I even had engines for Jetskis delivered there and other bulk items the kids are cute in the video my son used to drive a remote control car inside the 100,000 square foot shop on weekends our floor was sealed with Epoxy and had no voids or cracks so we could slide cabinets around without damages my Boss loved watching my children grow up and he would come out to watch the remote control cars too !
