People stopping under the overpass should know that is the worst place in a tornado. The wind tunnel effect accelerates the winds, making it worse under the bridge than on either side. It might protect your car from hail stones, but it will get you killed if a tornado catches you under there.
Glad your ok carnal. Dont matter how long it takes to get home, as long as you make it home to your family thats all that matters. Scary weather. Stay safe mi amigo.
I'd moved to NE Kansas and couldn't handle tornado season. I hadn't realized before that most of them occur in late afternoon and evening *when you can't see them!* So I moved to the Phoenix area and watched a rotating storm go right over my apartment complex...crap...
Lolololol that is so funny. Most people don't believe the desert in Arizona has tornadoes. I live in Arizona do I know I had a good laugh over your story. thanks for sharing
@@conniemiller5082 Oh, and the monstrous storm in Oct 2010 I was at the bus stop watching that thing move north...there was *rotation* in the SW corner. And of course it spawned a couple tornados up north... 🤦

First off, did you ever see a tornado? No. And neither did they because if there was one, it would of definitely been rain wrapped. Secondly, these people didn't drive into the tornado. They were apparently driving towards a tornado. But those winds weren't remotely bad enough to have been in the tornado. They would've been considerably worse had they actually been in the tornado's damage path.
Like Vvolfiee said. It's in Newburgh, New York. I'm from New York. We rarely get tornados and when we do, they are F0 to F1 so they arent as dangerous as the tornados on the Great Plains and Midwest. Although an F2 tore the shit out of a small town called Randolph,NewYork back in 2010.
I was on 87 going north when this came through. It got dark as night over there. Lucky for me the tornado only took trees down on the south bound side so I could still get through.
We had the same thing happen to us in May f4 tornado hit our area, all roads were closed in the hardest hit area. Our house was right in the middle of that area. Took us a little over four hours and a lot of knowing all the back roads.
It was a mistake to drive away from the overpass. I went home on a interstate during a tornado warning in my county at night. I drove about 35 mph and stop behind a semi which was waiting for the storm to leave the area by a overpass. Never again will I do that. I was very stupid to drive in it. Thinking the storm passed but it touch down in front of me and I would never seen it.
It's messed up how people just stop under the overpass like that. They're leaving everyone else behind them at risk. You said it right when you passed him
Great video . I had just got home in Walden when it hit and immediately got called into work when it happened . I had to drive over the river to Fishkill area . It was devastated . Scarey ride over for sure
I got caught in the supercell coming down from hunter mountain towards Saugerties, NY. Scariest experience I have ever had when it comes to bad weather because the roads were so narrow with steep ledge on right side. Trees were going down, big hail crashing down on my car, it was ridiculous!
Yea. I live in Newburgh didn’t have power for 3 days worst days of my life.No tv no games no internet no charging electronics and it was hot up in my house
That thing came across highway and mini twister ripped a hole in the woods behind me literally 100 feet from me. I was in my apartment working on the phone, when the wind starting picking up in Brookfield Connecticut, which was the town that got the worst of it.
Looked like a normal motorway drive in Scotland, I would of pulled over at the start aswell when it was impossible to see, but those idiots under the bridge blocking the road were stupid, they could have moved over a bit. Knowing it was a tornado, I'm glad you were safe, those things like to throw stuff at motorists. 👍👍👍
The worst place I've ever been as far as getting trapped in a storm is Central Indiana when it floods. I've been stuck i tornadoes 3 times in Northern GA
Why are people stopping? Roads are meant for moving. I got caught in a microburst one summer and idiots were stopping everywhere. I get the visibility was low but anybody could still tell where cars were relative to their position. Roads are not for stopping.
My husband drove through it...needless to say, his boss's house ended up with a tree on the roof. Thankfully, it didn't really do much and he now has all the firewood he needs for winter.
I live in Newburgh; I was at work when this happened. Came to realize my home lost power for three days and there was a major blackout. 8 people died I believe; it was terrible. Glad you’re safe man.
The one that touched down in Saugerties that day passed right behind my house. I heard the hail, opened the door, saw the size of the hail, and then the trees began to bend 90 degrees. I knew before the tornado warning blasted from my phone, and was already headed to the bathroom with 3 cats and a rabbit corralled into the rabbit pen, with 20 seconds to spare. Still, it wasn’t worse then Hurricane Jean, in Florida 04. Driving down i 95 in the back seat of a 2 door Honda, with dumb and dumber up front, driving south bound, right into that bitch. I know, long fuggin story 😒 and probably makes me dumbest, as no one put a gun to my head. Lucky dumb, not dumber, was driving, as he was the calmer, better driver especially in those conditions, and more reliable of the two. But, let me tell you, not before, or since, have I been so convinced that that was the day I shuffled off this mortal coil. I made my peace with God, called my mom to tell her I loved her, and braced myself for 4 hours expecting the inevitable that never came. I still think it’s only by the grace of something greater then us 3 dumb fuckin 18 year old shit heads. We shouldn’t have made it The joint I smoked that night once we reached safety was the best one I ever had! Then me and the dog both weathered the storm awake the whole night, shaking. When I look back at all the dumb shit I did, that tops the list every time
We were driving through Newburgh that day at that time and thank god we found a bridge to park under. Our car was certainly not as heavy as your truck !
Jennifer Pettit Please don’t do that again. It’s an urban myth that you are protected under overpasses and bridges. In reality, the wind accelerates and it’s much easier to die from debris flying around. Please Google it if you don’t believe me. Stay safe.
Glad I live in a State where it is Illegal to drive down the road with your hazard lights on unless the car is impaired, pull over in a safe area if you think it is not safe to proceed, dont drive 20mph or park half in the road
I'm just watching tornado videos and this was up next. I lived in Newtown CT at the time. I was coming over a hill, looked at the sky and there was just a wall of black, as I got on 84 I was driving in the same conditions and had to get off the next exit. Got stuck at a buddy's house on a dead end road for a day and he was about a 10 min drive from my house. We called it the Newtown Tornado though
Spectacular footages, but it was very unwise of the driver to continu driving with a rainwrapped tornado in such a bad environment (hills, woods). Better safe than sorry...
