    For an artist who had a rather endearing trust in a stock standard production model (CBS!) of his day, there is some huge irony here.

    • @michaelangeloh.5383

      The thing is; The way he used it obviously made it not so standard. So if you wanna mimick Jimi, you can't just go with a regular Strat and what have you. - And I wonder, if he eventually would've gotten into business with Fender and gotten his own guitar made, what that would've been. It would've happened... There's no way around that.

      if you REALLY want to channel jimi you just buy a lefty and string it righty... lol so yes you do just get a regular standard strat in lefty lol...

      I kinda get what you mean. It was a different time back then. They just took whatever was available and what sounded good. (And for Jimi's needs a Strat was the right tool available.) Only today we are obsessed with getting the perfect gear that can nail a specific sound. It's a great time to be a guitar player but also a bit of a shame. A lot of folks don't really create their own sounds anymore, it's just copying what is considered to be "great tone".

    I will never understand why so many people find satisfaction in disrespecting other musicians. The constant criticism of Rob's playing is not only unmerited, it is completely asinine. Rob and Lee are fantastic players and deserve the utmost respect from all of us. Since I began watching them many years ago, I have learned so many valuable lessons from Rob and Lee which I use in my own playing. I credit them for where I am nowadays as a guitarist for their uplifting and inspiring attitudes when it comes to the guitar.
    Real musicians do not lambaste one another. We encourage one another as we embark on this musical six-string journey together.

    • @homeworldmusic
      @homeworldmusic 5 лет назад +1

      The criticism is that Rob makes a Strat sound like a nothing-like-a-Strat, which is educational in that it shows the versatility of a Strat, but irritating when demoing an instrument designed to recreate the sound of a specific artist!

      @@electrix6751 You have to be kidding, right? If you don't want the "discomfort" then just play a righthanded guitar, fact remains that the hendrix modded strat mostly just looks like a strat with the scratch plate wrong way up. The jack input is on the correct side, the logo is the correct way up, which ultimately just doesn't look authentic at all. And yes, authenticity is important here as you're copying a well known guitar from a well known guitarist.

      That's such a stupid thing to say, there's nothing you aren't allowed to play on a guitar. If the demo was meant to sound like Hendrix then it would have. It was supposed to be a brief example of the sounds you can get in the context of a jam.

    • @JohnDrogado69
      @JohnDrogado69 6 лет назад +2

      Mark Seymour the thing is that Rob's soloing always comes down to a certain pattern. You will notice it when you watch a fair amount of his demos.
      I am not saying that he is a bad player or isn't entitled to play what he want, but his demos became so stale.
      Have you ever checked out Pete's playing in gear demos? This guy knows his way around all different type of playing styles and always tries to play according to the gear he is demoing.

    • @benwright3883
      @benwright3883 6 лет назад +1

      @Mark Seymour He didn't even in the intro. Even if he had, yes it would have demonstrated fine. If you buy a guitar off of the internet without playing it yourself first and use just a video as a demo thats not the greatest idea anyway.

    If you're talking about string gauge it's important to know that the set he used was a standard Fender set. It was called "Fender Rock n' Roll Spanish Guitar Extra Light 150" it appeared in their catalog from 1953 to 1979. I couldn't agree more the decal should have been placed upside down. • @guitareveryone

    "If Jimi lived to be 70 he would have done a bad album at some point." Interesting point but I'd argue that they already released a lot of "bad" stuff right after his death. And I don't mean that it is bad music or bad playing, just "bad" choices and bad quality. They released a lot of snippets and unfinished stuff. Jimi was quite a perfectionist and he would probably not have approved that.

    I met Hendrix in a pub in Salisbury in 1983. He was thinking about making a move back to the limelight, but had real back problems from having spent 8yrs travelling the world, harvesting courgette flowers. He was really excited about Yamaha's move into FM synthesis, but was looking to secure his money in a little smallholding in Tiverton. He was into his wildlife, I think he'd already invested in the company that did Hedgehog flavoured crisps.

    Cartoon Buddy Guy as Jimi's Tech at 7:11? Hilarious reference. For those that don't know, Jimi was a huge fan of Buddy Guy's playing. Buddy is 82 and still touring. He even had a new album release this year. Jimi is supposed to have said, "Heaven is lying at Buddy Guy's feet while listening to him play guitar." I can't find a solid source for the quote but there definitely is bootleg footage on RUclips where you can see Jimi at the foot of the stage intently watching Buddy play live. I recommend everyone go and see him.

    The whole question about why Jimi used the strings he did is pretty well laid out, as Rob says, by Jimi's tech. Don't understand why Lee feels the need to question all that at this point. Rob is absolutely right on that one.

    Rob
    You may remember, I contacted you a while back about the Jimi Hendrix autograph, my front row ticket and images I collected in person at a 1968 show. I've been included in the upcoming Richard Houghton book "Jimi Hendrix- The day I was there" with my recollections. There is still a way for you to have this small bit of Hendrix history.
    Love the Hendrix homage you guys did. I've been looking at your ML-1 and I think it is a nice piece of kit. I still dust off my Rick 360 and push the neighbors over the edge with my old Vox.
    Cheers Mate, love you vids and vision for music

    I honestly think Pete and Rabea are a better duo for blues/blues rock stuff. Nothing against rob, but he's more of a metal/hard rock player and seems to have difficulty playing other styles.

    • @nathanmontover1436
      @nathanmontover1436 6 лет назад

      I suppose I understand why someone would categorize Hendrix as a blues player. But that really doesn't do justice to the kind of player he actually was. And I bet Rabea is having a good laugh considering that he's the one who plays metal nearly exclusively (the new Toska is awesome - and it ain't blues!).

    I "build" same type of Jimi Fender to myself using american special body with it's electronics and 2015 Mexico Fender Hendrix sig model reverse neck. Pickups i put Fender custom shop 69 set like these have, but i put bridge pickup like it is in normal strat to get more body to it and middle/neck like they are on Hendrix strat. My guitar sounds just like these and looks too tho bridge sounds and feels better, not as spikey.

    Great playing again by Rob and Lee. Laughing at the bitter commenters here complaining that Rob is playing in his own style. Isn't that what we're all supposed to be doing? Are we supposed to automatically play in the style of the person that the signature model is named after?? Grow up, guys.

    As a lefty I'm inspired. I think Rob gets a bad rap for his shredding abilities. He's obviously well versed in technicality. But that's why Lee has obviously been jamming lately and gives us a balance. Best of both worlds no? Stop hating! I'll dub this the Jimi jam.

    Jimi was a WRITER first, then a guitar player. His guitar playing was so unique that guitar players completely overlook this. Jimi played stock Strats he pulled off the wall at Manny's and other places. His tech guy got them playable to Jimi's liking, but they were regularly priced, not expensive CBS stock guitars. Give me a break with these ridiculous $3000 "Jimi" Strats.

      @@kitoyobeni1 if you're going to pay thousands for a custom ahp better go fully authentic

    • @kitoyobeni1
      @kitoyobeni1 6 лет назад

      I would never pay thousands for this guitar. I would sooner buy the Mexican version and the Duncan Jimi loaded pickguard. There isn't an "authentic" Jimi guitar, this is a tribute model. An authentic wouldn't be left handed either; it would just be a period right handed strat, which would be missing the point entirely.
      If I were to buy a custom shop, it would truly be custom to my own requirements, not an unnecessarily expensive version of a standard model.
