Dude, there was this old game on the PS2 I’d play as a kid called “Smuggler’s Run.” It was definitely one hell of a car game. I very much recommend.
The sequel is good too, and they're both still pretty cheap atm. Shame it hasnt been rereleased

Crazy Taxi’s imitators never really understood that it wasn’t just the mechanics, it was also the vibes. The way passengers talked to you, the soundtrack, the design of the cars, the drivers’ personalities, etc. all added up to a really singular experience. A lot of the imitators assumed that what was fun about Crazy Taxi was driving people around, but it wasn’t - it was the whole experience. It’s a relic of its time, an icon of gaming, and also apparently has some racist ass character design for BD Joe that 6 year old me did not pick up on bc what the fuck how did I never see that

@@banilo1022 its the full lips design which is a very famous caricature of black people which could be seen in propaganda but also very normalized media for a while, it’s hard to notice and was hard to notice back then because most of us were playing it on very grainy and pixelated screens but yeah still racist sadly
@@jessy1982 he kinda looks like he was designed to look like a Black caricature - think Golliwog dolls. I doubt it was deliberate, and his later character art and models aren’t like it as much, but his in-game model in the original definitely has a bit of yikes in hindsight.

The first time I saw Crazy Taxi was in a furniture store on a PS2, just to be part of a children's room display. It was playable and it was lovely. Flash forward to about 20 years later, I volunteered at a one-day gaming convention where Crazy Taxi was one of the few and hotly competitive tournaments for the high score, on the Dreamcast.
So glad people still care for this game , and I care about Noodle for fun videos and quirky drawings :)

I jumped that bridge a long time ago, I definitely prefer those cardboard animations to (for exemple) his last animation on nfs, which felt completely soulless and had no personnality imo (maybe because of all the animators involved)

I like the cardboard animations because it gives him more flexibility over how much animation work he wants to do for a video.

Because I feel like combining the main elements of two different game series while also putting something on the table that gives it it’s own identity, can hardly be considered stealing.
Heck, technically, you’d only really be able to use the word “stealing” if the game didn’t add on to the already existing idea in some way, whether that be through it’s story or it’s mechanics… Or both.

Smashing Drive is absolutely the best Crazy Taxi clone I ever played, driving down the empire state building is literally unmatched insanity
My favorite sega port is Space Channel 5 Part 2, where when streaming for a friend who had played the game with nostalgia, the game just started to straight up randomly add notes into the mix for me to deal with, not even acknowledging that the game sometimes refuses to be in english or synced correctly

Honestly idrc what anyone says these cardboard videos are great. And honestly it takes a lot of work to set up something like that. Like he set up a whole room and over time slowly ruined it to follow the “story line” of the house.

Remember playing some game at a friend's bday party, and thinking back on it it was either a Crazy Taxi game or some ripoff (because none of the Crazy Taxi games I've seen match up with my memories of that game). NPCs that you could pick up had money signs over their heads, there were massive transparent red walls in front of locked areas, and I remember a subway being part of the map (it had a train that could crash into you).
I really love the cardboard aesthetic. The doodles are also cute. Keep up your awesome work!
