  • Historical reconstruction of Corfe Castle in Dorset, United Kingdom. This was part of my final year project for my Computer Animation course at University of Portsmouth.
The reconstruction was created in Autodesk Maya, The Foundy Mari, Adobe Photoshop, The Foundry Nuke and rendered using Solidangle's Arnold.

As a Dorset man born and bred, now living in the Far East i have stumbled across your animation and can only say "Congratulations" in all my years (84 now) i have never imagined that Corfe Castle looked like this. I am truely staggered. Thank you. I will never get back to see it, but i can now see it in the way that i have wondered since i was a small boy.

Having lived in Church Knowle, a mile from the castle, it's lovely to see how it looked before it was blown up. Thanks very much. Tony

That is gorgeous. Well done! It really evokes the space, and the reveals in the end, stripping it back to the present day, are great. I think historical reconstruction is a huge & still really-untapped market for 3D animation and simulation.

We visited Corfe Castle during a summer around 1978 and never forgot it. This is a brilliant presentation.

I live about 20 miles away. One of my earliest memories is walking through the gates on a school trip when I was 5 or 6. I've been a history geek ever since. I've often wondered how it looked before it was blown up, this is, by far the best reconstruction I have seen... amazing, I am in awe :)

Seeing the Castle like this brought back to life, for me puts her on par with Windsor in sheer majesty, and is a far more threatening and ominous presence to behold. Those Normans sure knew how to bring a country under their control.

Love this reconstruction. I have lived in the village since 2005 and was born in Dorset. From the rear of my house I can see the ruined castle and i can now appreciate what it once was, a splendid Norman structure with later additions that truly dominated the only route through the Purbeck Hills. Well done on a splendid animation!

Turns out I'm actually related to Lady Mary, the British Royalist who held this castle during the 3 year siege!! So cool!
They threw rocks and hot coals off the castle to defend it! She was ultimately betrayed by someone in her guard and they took the castle and destroyed it.😢

Terrific. As a lad who (with a load of guys and girls ) when not going to Cornwall from London to surf would go to Swanage in the 60s. And Corfe was ALWAYS on the 'Visit List'. Especially one night when we got 'a little bit DRUNK' in the town pub and ended up sleeping in the castle. Don't ask me how we did it..... I have no idea. 😁 But THANK YOU I always wondered what the castle must have looked originally.
