I took in my gorgeous poecilotheria metallica, Freyja who also had a bad molt that left two of her back legs looking really similar. She has been doing fine, climbing and eating just fine though she chooses to hang out lower to the ground and even webbed up around her little space. I am sure she will do great in your care! ♡

I think it’s a good precaution to remove the isopods from the situation, I raise dairy cows and it’s shocking how voracious they can be to anything they view as a potential food source.

Dear Kat, I can share some experience with that kind of issue.
Our Brachipelma Vagans had half of her legs twisted after a problematic molt.
On the left side the outer ones, and on the right side the inner ones, were twisted like corkscrews.
The only movement possible was extending and retracting like some kind of telescopic arm.
She adapted quite fast to the new situation and pretty much worked with the 4 normal legs she had left.
During the next mold all of the 4 misshaped legs were ripped away from her and stayed with mold.
    She bleed strongly.
She survived and during the next 3 molds her missing legs grew back.
I guess you should monitor her next mold carefully and be prepared to stop bleeds.
    Good luck with her.

I don't have tarantulas, but I've kept isopods with mantis with no issues. Mantis climb, isopods burrow, so they don't really bump into each other. I think since isopods usually burrow a terrarium for an arboreal tarantula would probably be safe.

    • @tylociraptor8131
      @tylociraptor8131 2 года назад +6

basically so long as the isopods are small enough, the tarantula will not even notice them. A smaller tarantula will eat em.

    • @BuffyLynn

I think as long as there food for the isopods (poo, molts, actual food you can buy etc) they won’t try to chew on any pets. 😉

The snake might be so skittish because of the top opening enclosure. Our hognose (obvs different species) would puff up and get all sassy when she was in a top opening enclosure but now shes in a front opening one shes so much better, might be something to consider in the future

    • @Ava_Orchid

Absolutely great advice. Predators to most reptiles come from above. Reaching down onto your snake while towering over it can absolutely increase fear and flight. Many snakes and lizards also will calm down if they cant see you seeing them. Maybe they think if its looking at me its targeting me for predation. Who knows how they think but I have seen it work

My 7 inch DLS P. cambridgei female had a leg that looked exactly like the last one on your girl, all bent at the tip. Hers happened after a molt on her fake flowers that were too close to the lid and that caused her to not be able to stretch the limb out properly. Just what I think happened anyway. It was corrected in her next molt. Looking at the tightness of your E. campestratus' burrow, I wouldn't be surprised if her bad molt was due to something similar. Or totally different. Either way, wishing you luck with her and that she recovers well!

My biggest surprise comeback was a sling Pseudhapalopus sp. Columbia I had just received that was super small. I put it into my container with the smallest vent holes I had, and it really looked like he wouldn't fit. I was right, kinda xD It sure as hell tried though, but it got stuck. Carapace and front 4 legs were outside, abdomen and back 4 were stuck inside. I had to push it back through the hole with a paintbrush (which it tried to bite the entire time). In the process it dropped 3 of the 4 front legs to get unstuck. I was so scared it was going to die from injuries to the carapace I couldn't see; however, a year later and Five Legs has grown back all its legs and is thriving. It's amazing what they can come back from! Here is to hoping Eevee makes a full recovery!

I wouldn't do isopods with anything that burrows. I've had 2 losses due to isopods eating them while resting in burrows. Also, they eat up your plants and moss even when you're feeding them. The amount of damage is most likely due to the size of their population, and might be species specific. But I no longer keep isopods as part of my clean up crew. Springtails and worms, white/grindle worms work great for me.

Definitely a good idea to separate those isopods, while very docile Porcellionides are hungry little dudes who need a lot of calcium...which ranchu molts are packed with. They wouldn't want to eat her necessarily, but I could see them doing some damage trying to eat/pull off a molt before she was done. Tbh that may be what caused her injury, I didn't see any calcium source in her old tank so the isopods may have gotten over excited when she last molted.
All things considered Eevee looks great though and I'm sure she'll do wonderful in her new home free from overeager "helpers"! cx

This is soooo funny but ever since I started watching you I baby every spider I see, lol.
I had the COOLEST Orb Weaver in my garden that actually didn't hang out all that long.
The last time I saw her/him he was tearing down the web
    Eating it
I went back out and she was GONE
    I WAS SO DEVASTATED LOL
I get wolfies in my house quite a bit this time of year. I think I am going to stick up on the things to keep them in. What can you do???
I hate to not do anything.
I have seen some cool looking spiders. I'm constantly snapping pics and blowing them up so I can see what they are lol

I don't have any tarantulas yet I've been studying and looking them up online for the last 6 months but according to everything I've read and watched the isopods shouldn't bother the tarantula but this is just what I researched so far I don't plan on getting my tarantula for another 6 months or so

One of my scorpions had a bad molt just like this. All of his little legs are twisted in some way. (the back pair especially) I'm hoping he'll be okay until the next molt.
