Really proud of you for posting this. We’ve all seen your haters and we all know their nasty attitudes.
Honestly though it’s true, everyone does make mistakes. Especially when keeping 100+ Tarantulas, you may hurt one on accident someday. But the reality is that all of these animals will probably live longer and fuller lives than they would have in the wild.
Wild tarantulas have to face far worse natural disasters, terrifying predators, illnesses, food shortages, bad sheds, etc. and if gd forbid the worst you do is drop a piece of cork on a guy who’s kicking hairs at you I’d say you’re doing a good job.
    You got this Kat!

I want to recommend you a method to rehouse such a hair kicking tarantula. Instead of having to move it use the water sprayer and use it over the T, I used it once in my Auratum and they dont flick hairs in that way, because they detect that water as rain and they will just move to the other side, its pretty effective

    • @davidcamacho3992
      @davidcamacho3992 3 года назад +1

@whatacuteTae yes, an autatum can be pretty skitish during the rehouse. Moving them can cause them to kick hairs and get nervous, so what I do is gently splaying water behind it. Tarantulas have an instinct to avoid water and rain, so instead of flicking hairs they just move to find cover somewhere else

I've had 2 mishaps with my Hapalopus sp columbia (large) pumpkin patch sling. First one was when I was attempting to feed it in it's 50 dram vial. I looked down to talk to my cat (yes, I talk to her) and accidentally smacked the enclosure with my tongs. The enclosure flew off the shelf 4 feet down to the floor. I expected to see a sling with an exploded abdomen. But I had to dump the substrate out before I found it, and it was walking around like nothing happened. The 2nd time was when I was holding up it's current enclosure, a small temporary betta tank. I was holding it by the handle on the top when the lid popped off. Again I freaked out, but after a few minutes I saw the tarantula walking around on the floor. I then put it in a temporary container while rearranged it's enclosure.

Oh sweetie!! Don’t feel guilty about an accident!!! It was an accident and you know this kind of thing just happens! We all know how much you love your Ts and the most important thing is that the tarantula is ok! So, forget about it and just go ahead! You made a wonderful enclosure for her, maybe one of most beautiful seen so far! Much much love to you and your stunning tarantulas ❤️🕷
    You are THE BEST ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤🤍

I use a heat pad but I keep it a good distance away,I only use it in winter for my T lives in the basement and it gets cold like 40° and has been lower but the enclosure stays around 70-75,also thanks for all the great info on Ts and care form them

Oh my gosh, my heart stopped, I'm glad she's OK. It's awful when you accidentally hurt your babies, the amount of times I've kicked or tripped over my kitties because they sneak behind and through my legs as I am walking, proper scissor effect as they're trapped between each ankle, I feel awful after. Like I say, so glad she's OK though. You didn't look out of focus either 💜

I use kitchen tongs. Can’t get a good grip with the tongs even for crickets.

Just watched the cork bark almost fall on the tarantula! Listened to your explanation of how that happened and I find your clarity extremely helpful. That is definitely an accident I would want to avoid! So thank you for sharing.

Thankfully ive never done this but im definitely aware of it now. However my first time handling my tarantula got on my back, i was so terrified i would hurt it and i ended up taking my shirt of gently and scooping them back into their enclosure i was so terrified and felt like shit for weeks. I handle rarely, make sure its somewhere where they cant escape, and have another person around… Making mistakes is part of it as long as you learn, i still feel bad about that though my poor dude didnt deserve my stupidity back then…

I have a question... but first, I'm blind so I'm only listening to your bideos. Do you ever pick up your tarantulas with your hands?

Try using rubber gloves, they got a much better grip!

.7 neoprene gloves that fit snuggly is your best bet. Get the extended wrist version. I've kept Ts for over 30 years. Accidents do happen.

I've seen this happen on soo many channels you can never be too careful. Invest in a pair of "longlockers" it's adjustable vicegrips and they will save your Ts as well as make your life easier.

I can’t image what Broha thought. So scared! Hope she is okay. She might like some moss to keep moisture in without wetness. I suggest you watch Dave’s Little Beasties. That guy is a guru.

Kat just have to say how much I enjoy your videos. I am a 70 yo guy and have had a fear of spiders my whole life. Whenever I would see someone holding a T, I would say Helllllllll NO and Yuch!!!! Could not understand why anyone would want one. About a month ago I just stumbled on a video from Exotics Lair and before I knew it was watching his and looking for others and found yours. I had no idea about the colors and patterns on the various Tarantulas or how easy they are to keep. So interesting to observe their habits and behaviors. Now I hear myself saying all the time....WOW...What a beautiful F*&K%$G spider. It is hard to believe but I actually would like to have one. Unfortunately wifey says NO. Lol. Talked her into lots of stuff over the years but don't think it will work this time. Keep it up.

Thanks from learning from your mistakes!! I think i will use tongs for this in the future but from now i will not go over my Tarantula again so it should be save!! It is very difficult to grab such large pieces with only one tong so maybe its a good idea to take a second one or something like a spoon to help liften it up so u must not grab the hole piece only wiht the tongs! Thank u very much for your videos!!!

One of my worst fears with my babies. Thank you for leaving that in your video. It makes me a little less nervous and accidentally smooshing them when re-housing. I’m glad Bruja is ok, she’s beautiful.
