@@dominiqueharris7823 I was top of the field in a very niche area of e-commerce security on Linux. It was a very competitive area on an international level where consumers were often looking for the least expensive price it would not take into account wisdom. I still remember a case of a California customer reporting that they had an IBM consultant that they were paying $1000 a day and after two weeks but still not resolved the problem. While I was on the phone with them I had them run a few commands based on what they were Sharing what was the nature of the problem. I was able to fix their problem in 15 minutes give or take and the company for whom I worked only charged $100 an hour with a minimum of one hour. So here this company that paid roughly $10,000 over two weeks to not get the problem fixed it all wanted to fight $100 bill change that they should've been only charged in Quarter hour increments. They were not grateful that the problem was solved and they were not interested it was solved in 15 minutes versus two weeks. It was nitpicking like that and my wife asking if I could see myself doing that over the next several years and it made me question the area that I was in. So after a battery vocational casting that included a personality test I never heard of, the Myers Briggs personality test, they recommended anything in healthcare, anything in public education or anything in counseling. Change the time we were trying to encourage our daughter to go in the healthcare and I feel that it's best to lead by example I was determined to become a registered nurse because the register nurse teaches, councils And is in healthcare. That was the start of my journey at the age of 50. It's no a little over nine years later and I have not looked back cents. It was among the best decisions that I ever made in my life and I am so glad God called me to become a hospice nurse.

It’s such an injustice to have online schools taking money and not actually helping students succeed- degree mills. The accrediting boards also need to be held accountable. Plus u get zero networking skills. The teachers aren’t teaching-the tests are 3rd party & papers graded by another 3rd party. Sadly, these models are not producing competent clinicians. If Med school was online-nope. Hybrid ok but these schools also do not allow any academic freedom and under pay faculty.

    • @KendraRN
      @KendraRN  2 года назад +2

It really is a shame and never made sense to me. I value education and think that the online only format is a disservice to clinicians and the public. Let’s not talk about the finding your own clinical site, a huge disaster. This new school seems promising, it’s a state university.

Guess what? Even that school to which you referred to as a factory, you still have to post 2 peer discussions along with two journal articles for each postings. That's just the way NP schools operates. Simmons may assist you in finding preceptors. It's challenging to complete the clinical rotations if you have to work more than two days out of the week.

  • @julesgitu8287

discussion boards are stupid. students just post coz it's required. there is no thought provoking discussions when students just post coz it's just required. some put no effort at all and therefore there is no learning taking place. I dropped coz there was no hands on when it came to health assessment class. I don't mind online school but I prefer the program to be a hybrid program. and also I need someone to secure preceptors for me coz it's a headache trying to find one on your own.

Kendra, after I did my topic for the discussion in that school 😂 and researched at least three papers-within the last three years and considered scholar like papers with numerous authentic sources in the bibliography.
The students would wait until the ninth hour before they would respond to your posts and then they would use your papers that you took the time to read to respond in the personal discussions. So basically I did all the work and they just use my own papers to answer me. I did make friends on the discussion boards because you can tell by the way someone writes that they would be receptive if you had a question and you could actually send messages directly to them in the school portal without anyone else seeing it. I even had a friend in Guyana who I was helping her with a computerized math assignment at 3 AM in the morning using my iPhone and my iPad so she could look at how I work things out. Unfortunately I had to drop the course and that was a MPH. That would’ve been very useful in this Medical climate that we are in now.

When people have online courses, they just do the bare minimum, which isn't a lot because the point of it being online is for it to be flexible, so there's always a bunch of resources that people who aren't serious about learning never even glance at.
In my online classes, I always just pick random people to respond to and never read anything anyone else says. In an actual, in-person discussion, even if you weren't participating, you're still exposed to hearing the other people talk about whatever the discussion is. You get to see if anyone makes a really uncomfortable face/has uncomfortable body language in reaction to someone saying something, etc. It's less flexible, but I definitely think the benefits outweigh the downsides because there is the comradery and healthy competition that comes with a community, especially one geared towards learning difficult, important material

I'll say this much. I've preceptor about 5 NP students at this point, and let me tell you, ya'll need to rise up and get your schools to act right.
Without fail, EVERY student I have preceptor had to jump through hoops to find a site.
As a med student, part of my school fee included all placements and rotations.
Can you imagine paying all that money for medical school, then having to hustle to find where you're going to do your Paediatric or Surgery rotation?
Many of these NP students, after getting into these schools, are left on their own to find where they can get this hands on training. They find preceptors by word of mouth.
The school should at least keep a list of potential preceptors, and contact them on the student's behalf.
And then add to that, they send the student, with NO curriculum.
What am I supposed to do with you when you're here?
I end up doing the same things I would with a medical student, but they still end up getting the short end of the stick, because the med student comes from an institution that has a contract with the hospital, so they can get access to the EMR, see a patient with supervision etc.
The NP student doesn't have that, so they end up just shadowing for the most part. And how you're allowed to do while you shadow will be highly preceptor dependent.
I happen to like to teach, so I'll allow them to do more than most, but some really are done a disservice in my opinion.
And these students are paying THOUSANDS of dollars to these schools.
    I think it's unconscionable.
