Remember in the fight with Tex, Wash and Reds and blues. Meta took so many hits even stabbed in the heart by a energy sword but he died from drowning. Just like Rasputin
One of the saddest parts is how Carolina views this as a loss in the one sided rivalry between her and Tex, though I'd argue that she won. She was the one who secured the briefcase, and the moment that's clear is 18:50, when Tex is completely stopped, and has no bike to keep her in the chase. Unlike Carolina her armor enhancement is not super speed.
I think this is genuinely one of the best choreographed animated fights ever. Monty truly knew how animate fights that had a sense of weight and impact.
Yeah, the freelancers have a really nasty pecking order thing going. Connie gets shafted by it pretty hard, because she's bouncing between the worst of the elites and the best of the rest. Carolina, as the top agent got comfortable being top of the food chain and her issues with Tex are all based on Tex threatening that position. The rest of the elites are just happy to see they now have *two* war gods on their side, but Carolina needs to the best, and Tex is always just a little bit ahead of her.
@@rashkavar I'd say C.T was easily better than York, worse than Carolina and securing a spot at 3. The only reason she wasn't on the board is due to her constant disrespect and display of dis-loyalty to the program and her holding back in missions because she knew the Freelancers were in the wrong.
Sometimes I tell myself, "Monty was godly people overhyped honestly his stuff is outdated nowadays" And then I actually look at his work and punch myself in the face for even thinking those thoughts.

a part of me likes to imagine that Alpha/Churchs' A.I. interface before the fragmentation process that slowly saw him becoming a soldier through his torture, Church might have originally looked more like a younger version of Dr. Leonard Church himself with glasses, but also having a pen tucked behind his ear, holding a clipboard and wearing a _RoosterTeeth_ shirt underneath a White Lab Coat from the 20th Century. Beyond this, even though Texas completed her objective in retrieving the Sarcophagus and the Briefcase, she ended up ultimately failing... Carolina: the daughter of the woman that Texas was based off of now resents her.
it’s kinda awesomely weird though because at this point tex and carolina both don’t know that there related and just see each other as competition at this point.
Anyone else want to see a freelancer prequel to RvB? I would absolutely watch Carolinas character arc between her initiation to the project and the meeting of the reds and blues, beyond just the flashbacks.
One of my top favourite RVB micro-scenes is the part at 11:48. Great in-character mannerisms with Tex being the first to notice the ship and then immediately get to work on securing a method of escape (by taking a nearby jetpack), without a single word to the rest of the team since she's a lone wolf-type. And the way she uses the jetpack to boost-kick the Sarcophagus off the side and proceeds to dive after it, just badass.
Real-body models - different people act the humanly possible stuff to base the animation around. Also why she appears like a man in some instances, differemt body actor.
for some reason i never noticed how york intentionally saves maine with the swerve at 16:35 , i thought he was just driving reckless. good teammate. better than wash atleast.
This show use to be quite something… and Monty was a fucking legend, the fight on the truck and a good bit before was all in one shot, that’s some talent right there
Maybe one day we can get a full remaster where this entire series is redone with proper animation and it becomes more than a little thing that happened on the internet once upon a time
15:25 if this isn’t already a smash bros/ FPS map it should be one. Seeing how they took cover behind a truck made me think of all the crazy game design shit that could go on in a map like this.
Amazing episode, and the rule of cool overrides this, but I'm mentioning it anyway. They jump at 12:06 and are about to hit the ground at 12:56, so they fell for 50 seconds, or about 40 if you don't count that scene with Tex in the Pelican. Just doing some quick, rough math, they would've fallen around 4500 meters, or about 12,500 feet! That's 2.8 miles! That is one tall building!! For reference, that's nearly 10x taller than the tallest building in the world!
I always love the little touches they add like during the breach Wash thinks it’s clear and lowers his gun and then sees Shark Face still up and aims again.
Small details like how at 7:28 Carolina walks using her hips and Wash like a man, the fluidity of the fights is what makes this animation much better than in the later seasons. Monty Oum is a master.
So nobody's gonna talk about how agent tex somehow got to the briefcase that fast even when her motorcycle was broken at the end or no? Just curious how
You know.... The warthog jumping into the tunnel followed by the camera transition from following the characters to a landscape shot of the tower coming down. Not sure if it was intentional or an inspiration. But it really put me in mind of the original reactor shot at the beginning of ff7 if it was intentional I don't think a lot of people got the omage but it was awesome. Also pod zero four zero one. Aka a 401 error because Tex doesn't connect with the team 🤣
Having the cutaways worked for the pacing of the season as a whole, especially since it ends in a present day fight where the action is in a similar sort of epic style, but blended with the insanity of the Reds and Blues, but they definitely should have done a freelancer special that told just the flashback story. I honestly didn't know the stuff for this mission was as cohesive as this is; I thought there were a lot more time skips.
Seriously! The glass shattering from the shockwave coming off of Carolina due to just how fast she's hauling ass has been the icing on the cake of one of the best chase scenes I've ever seen.

@@Cptsuccess Yeah I don't think he necessarily cares but he's less apathetic than the director is and seems to understand the value of their humanity
Fight choreography hit so different when Monty was still alive and in charge of it, it reminds me of the Hyun’s Dojo stuff
I miss Monty. RIP
RIP Monty this is the best sequence ever made and had such amazing choreography. Everything about this is so well done
So true
Makes you wonder how much damage can Maine take. Sniper to the gut, pistol to the neck (x8), and then literally hit by a truck. Yet he still lives.
Remember in the fight with Tex, Wash and Reds and blues. Meta took so many hits even stabbed in the heart by a energy sword but he died from drowning. Just like Rasputin
Didn't he get a bullet to the frontal lobe as well?
This clip foreshadowed the grapple shot in Halo Infinite honestly
One of the saddest parts is how Carolina views this as a loss in the one sided rivalry between her and Tex, though I'd argue that she won. She was the one who secured the briefcase, and the moment that's clear is 18:50, when Tex is completely stopped, and has no bike to keep her in the chase. Unlike Carolina her armor enhancement is not super speed.
16:21 to 18:01. Notice anything awesome? That was all one shot. For an animated work with motion capture, that is seriously impressive
tbh I think this should be taught in animation and storyboarding classes
It's classic
Washington did a Will Smith at 7:56. Aww that's hot. That's hot.
Shit. Youre right...
@@keilafleischbein59 woah a response already

@@choogus5071 i have no life :) ive been playing with bionicles and tripping on LSD all day
Keila Fleischbein That sounds fun? I guess.
I think this is genuinely one of the best choreographed animated fights ever. Monty truly knew how animate fights that had a sense of weight and impact.
Monty Oum, you will be missed as one of the greatest animators for Rooster Teeth and as the creator of RWBY.
Connie asks perfectly valid questions”that’s enough questions CT!”
@@oogidaboogida4752 interesting never thought about it like that
@@oogidaboogida4752 and then Chorus happens, and a whole planet unknowingly would have really liked if Freelancer had won

Because it might as well be a bomb.

People always talk about what Jeff sandy and Casey did for rooster teeth, but y’all don’t give enough love to Lamar hall, the rapper who adds so much personality to classics like “falling towards the sky”
The part where they jump off the building was the first rvb clip I ever saw and my motivation for watching the series. This shit is awesome
Good times
a part of me likes to imagine that Alpha/Churchs' A.I. interface before the fragmentation process that slowly saw him becoming a soldier through his torture, Church might have originally looked more like a younger version of Dr.
The Church family is... dysfunctional, to say the least
Anyone else want to see a freelancer prequel to RvB? I would absolutely watch Carolinas character arc between her initiation to the project and the meeting of the reds and blues, beyond just the flashbacks.
RvB made me feel like I was genuinely watching Spartan II's in action.
18:56 Carolina straight up predicting Halo Infinite.
And then Chief straight up pulled off that Pelican dive, too.
19:02 i still get chills
marley highfield lol same bro
Can we PLEASE get a "Freelancers" animated tv show? Nvm, I'll do it.
Pretty sure seasons 9 and 10 were the animated TV show, fam. 12-13 were closely tied to the main freelancers as well.
Keila Fleischbein I’m pretty sure he means some sort of separate show that you don’t even need to watch RvB for and that is just the Freelancers.
so, clone wars?
@@sasir2013 yeah, a CW version of RvB for the Freelancers is a good way of putting it.
I love the designs for the insurgent ODST group, I used to design my spartan in reach based off their looks.
I like how, altogether, this is roughly the length of a TV episode.
I only just realized that Carolina actually had kind of a feminine walk.
Real-body models - different people act the humanly possible stuff to base the animation around. Also why she appears like a man in some instances, differemt body actor.
@@ZaZi-Zeta01 That's a fair point
Am i the only one who was low-key hoping for some more Alpha+Director (or really anyone in the Freelancer group) interaction?
Yeah nope. Hey 👋
2 years late but yeah, I wanted to see more of Alpha and the Director interacting before… well you know.
Wyoming literally has two lines in the entire season.
Ive only know noticed the "No!" From Carolina when Maine gets shot in the neck
It's a great detail
Maine deserved better, but the damage made him all the more cooler
@@Xynam0 maine is super badass
Mind holding this for a second?
Whuh?
Thank you.
for some reason i never noticed how york intentionally saves maine with the swerve at 16:35 , i thought he was just driving reckless. good teammate. better than wash atleast.
Nobody choreographed like Monty Oum, he was an action animation mastermind.
What the hell? It bounces? Who designs a gun that bounces? This is the worst gun ever, of a-
We all know what he was going to say.
Man, payday 3 looks sick. I cant wait!
This show use to be quite something… and Monty was a fucking legend, the fight on the truck and a good bit before was all in one shot, that’s some talent right there
He was a legend
Maybe one day we can get a full remaster where this entire series is redone with proper animation and it becomes more than a little thing that happened on the internet once upon a time
And to think wash and Carolina fall in love later on...
I thought they were already together at this point?
They dont fall in love, they later clarify each other more like siblings then lovers
@@paveesfox375 when?
I ship York and Carolina, but the sad thing is well, York is dead. But I think that a sibling like relationship suits Wash and Carolina better.
@@josephge4223 Season 15 would beg to differ?
Okay but imagine being in one of the cars and watching all this happen.
15:25 if this isn’t already a smash bros/ FPS map it should be one. Seeing how they took cover behind a truck made me think of all the crazy game design shit that could go on in a map like this.
How many years later and this is still one of the best action sequences ever made ever!
It was definitely a huge building, but I think there was also an implication of bullet time in some of those shots
2020 and this is still awesome
18:53 Halo Infinite stole the grapple shot from Red vs Blue confirmed
I forgot alpha said "you would make the same calculations just slower" they are the same person and its so cool it was foreshadowed this far back
17:51
Am I the only one who thinks this is kinda funny. I mean the keyboard I'm the back while Maine is blasting off again.
I always love the little touches they add like during the breach Wash thinks it’s clear and lowers his gun and then sees Shark Face still up and aims again.
i miss him so much
If he was still alive, RvB Zero might not have been so bad.
Also, I love your videos.
RIP Monty Oum. Legend who remains dearly missed.
I miss S8 and S9😭
Rest in piece Monty Oum. Best of all time
Caroline : don't be a baby Maine
Proceeds to kick Maine of the tower
Small details like how at 7:28 Carolina walks using her hips and Wash like a man, the fluidity of the fights is what makes this animation much better than in the later seasons. Monty Oum is a master.
Beautiful animation
They should have done it like this, because the constant cutaways to the present day stuff interrupted the action and pacing and was annoying.
agreed, the cutaways also make it confusing
But then it would be very unbalanced seeing how this is the last half of the season, I liked how it was and wouldn't change it
Having the cutaways worked for the pacing of the season as a whole, especially since it ends in a present day fight where the action is in a similar sort of epic style, but blended with the insanity of the Reds and Blues, but they definitely should have done a freelancer special that told just the flashback story. I honestly didn't know the stuff for this mission was as cohesive as this is; I thought there were a lot more time skips.
soetimes monty oum needs breaks
Well how this worked is we would see bits of information to start to piece together clues to the director, and where things are and all that
19:03 is arguably the best scene from red vs blue, just the sheer intensity of the chase, the music and my god the glass!
Seriously! The glass shattering from the shockwave coming off of Carolina due to just how fast she's hauling ass has been the icing on the cake of one of the best chase scenes I've ever seen.
