I showed this video to a H-D service manager. He laughed, and assured me the ONLY way to set the pin on a Nightster was via the H-D diagnostic program. He suggested I have it done during service, for a “reasonable fee”. But hey, can’t hurt to try. After several attempts, trying to watch the needle swing and get the rhythm correct as suggested, I started to laugh just like the service manager. Not the first time I fell for something from RUclips. But laughing was the key. Rather than watch the display at all, I simply let my thumbs work without regards to the display. Right thumb- on,off,on,off,on Followed by Left thumb- left, left, right. When I looked down, there was the BLANK pin display. (It was set to a dealer pin when I began) I entered my # as per the instructions & everything works as expected. Thank you so much. I hate it when a Dealer tries to stick it to me.

Good to hear l, especially when you realized that this post is not a joke. The guy that supposedly tried to help you and laughed (because he knows what the truth is) is the joke which is sad and unfortunate.
If your PIN as well as your “new bike” was not initially set-up properly by the dealer then never go back. Never patronize any business that takes customers for fools until they soon realize the value of knowledge.
I am fortunate enough that I have an excellent dealer who set up the Nightster properly and was delivered to me, the customer as it should. I have never experienced any of the issues that other folks are experiencing including the ignition, dying out and other problems. These issues occurred because the rotten apple dealers want the vulnerable to come back and drop some more cash for simple fixes. That’s where they get you with any dealer these days, cars or motorcycles, it’s their service departments.
Again, I’m really glad to hear that it worked out for you and that my video helped at least 1 person out there which is the sole intention for the upload.
Ride safe and God bless! 🙏🏼

    This worked beautifully, thank you!
Took a couple tries but paying attention to the tach and timing it from there helped a ton.

First, make sure your battery is on a tender, trying this multiple times will drain the battery and give off warning lights later. It does take some rhythm to it… but begin when the speedometer needle comes back down right after switching to “Run”

Shi* that didn't work with mine probably did some wrong, what do you recommend ?

First off relax and try not to rush it. Like I mentioned in another comment, make sure the bike is on a tender as it will drain if you keep repeating these steps. When you flick the switch to run, right when the needle drops back down, slowly begin the pattern but with rhythm. Don’t give up, this does work and it’s in the manual as well. The rhythm is the most aggravating part for some but you’ll get it. Let me know.
