i abselutely love it when games do this, from recent memory, and games that ive of course played, the only other game ive seen do something like this is in kingdom hearts 2, with the third to last boss fight (not including the minibosses that appear) i really wish more media would do things like this, the dichotomy of a seemingly epic boss fight with such a sad sounding song in the background, even without any context about who these people are, and their stories, really really carry weight. if you have no idea what im talking about, i highly reccomend seeing the fight on youtube if you dont mind the animeish gameplay and visuals, MAJOR storyline spoilers if you havnt played KH2 but if you dont care than here ruclips.net/video/y4yQioUhk9E/видео.html

Mr Espy The Chosen Undead can literally respawn after so many deaths until he/she gets to kill him. I mean Gwyndolin is the only known living “God” that hasn’t yet afflicted with the Curse we’ve fought since Dark Souls 1.

Imagine if someone chocked you enough to make you collapse each time you lost to an unparryable, lightning using, maybe wrath of the gods using, faster moving, potentially parrying, Gwyn, how many fight would you be able to endure before giving up (hollowing) ? I mean, people beat midir (hell, there are probably people who beat midir with no armor and only their fists -_-) , but we know that it's not the kind of thing that an solitary undead would actually be able to do in universe, we can do it only because of the fact that we don't have to endure that kind of experience. Hell, even gael ends up hollowing, and this chad didn't for millennia. That's all assuming Gwyn (not the boss, the person, I mean realistically) wouldn't just knock you, tie you up, and take your dark soul away or some kind of similar thing. Or just chain you eternally if he can't do more. Point being : he is the ultimate soul, unless you have an army, or you're something like one or multiple dragons, you wouldn't be able to take down Gwyn. You could probably take down a boss Gwyn lord of sunlight, but not the actual in game character, if you were isekaied to the world of dark souls.

As someone who knows the lore of the masterpiece that is Dark Souls, it really feels like it's telling the story of pain and struggle of Lord Gwyn sacrificing himself to kindle the first flame. @@varti546 in the game there are 2 pianos, played by gwyn and the chosen undead, one stays in the fallen mood and repeat a loop, and the other growns with variations
As epic and well done this sounds, it just doesn't feel right lore-wise and character-wise for Gwyn, as lord of cinder. It just seems too headstrong and hopeful while Gwyn was desperate and weak/spent, yet truthful to his goal even beyond death.
I think this better portrays the majesty of him, the most powerful king pretty much ever, before sacrificing himself, while the stripped back piano arrangement better represents him as we see him in game, hollowed and desperate. Obviously what we got was perfect and nothing could better fit the fight, but I don't think this is meant to be boss fight music.

The original didn't really have feels, it more prays on your emotion you felt fighting the boss with the difficulty, it's the same with my friend, so if you really do find it emotional, then I guess you must be very easy to bring to tears.
