I usually agree with Max but he's crazy on this. If you steal from a luxury store ANYWHERE you get arrested. If you get arrested while you're an athlete on scholarship, most of the time you get suspended or get cut. His whole point about innocence is mute on this one now anyway, they've admitted to stealing.

When you pay top dollar at public well-established stores they're never going to sell fake goods since you'll be convicted of larceny. And remember in China larceny is jail time, not just a fine.

So you can't really blame the school "at least 50%" for the theft. It's not as if a rich kid would ever deliberately and openly display a predilection for criminality, nor would that ever be the first thing a school admissions committee suspects a multi-millionaire trust fund kid like Liangelo of.

As for Trump, he intervened because that's what the president is supposed to do when his citizens are facing legal issues abroad. People think being a citizenship is only for voting purposes and for what happens domestically. They need to understand that citizenship also means your country has to do everything they can to get you back home when you are facing issues (legal or otherwise) abroad. Sure, good publicity crossed Trump's mind but at the end of the day, he only did what he was supposed to do.
No, being an American is NOT a "get out of jail free" card all around the world. Hundreds of US citizens are facing some type of legal action in foreign lands on any given day and it is definitely NOT the President's job to involve himself in other countries legal systems usually.
