    Air density and resistance has a greater effect than Bjorn takes into account. The Zoe is a hatchback and the Ionic has much less resistance, it’s just the same as my Kona which here in Québec when the temperatures descend into the minuses loses range in winter as much as 30%.

    • @Perforator2000
      @Perforator2000 5 лет назад +1

      It is a significant effect. Also the battery itself can't perform as well when it is below optimum temperature.

    You should consider redoing this test in summer with the same conditions you tested the Model 3 SR+: Summer, Dry, 24 degree. I would assume you have at least 10Wh/km, probably even 15Wh/km less consumption. Also the 1000km challenge would be nice again (in summer without cold gate)

    Very good to see this model's real world range in typical driving conditions. I would estimate you'd want to recharge every 250km. I believe they should put in a slightly larger battery, approx. 5 kWh more, just to give it that boost so that you can reliably get it to 300km between charges. 40kWh is the sweet spot, I believe, for mass adoption. You can get the price down, fast charging can get the speed up to where it needs to be for practical use. With continued efficiency improvements, I could see this becoming the new standard for a price/performance ratio. Thanks for the video.

    A lot of people are complaining about the charging speed but won't charging slower save the battery life/health plus here in the UK chargers are often in use by someone else so you have to wait for them to finish charging first so the bigger battery/slower charging speed might be more beneficial to get to the next charger ? And perhaps not needing to charge at all until you get to your destination because of the bigger battery anyone thought about that ?

    The charging speed on the 2020 is limited mostly by the current (125 A) available on 50kW chargers, since it's battery nominal Voltage is ~320V at full charge. If you consider that old Ioniq had a 400V battery pack, it makes a huge difference in charging power. Old Ioniq max charging power (@50 kW chargers) was about 48,75kW (390V * 125A). New Ioniq, as Bjorn experienced it on 50kW chargers, is about 32kW, limited mostly by the low voltage of the battery. The real problem here is the slow charging speed even with faster chargers (100+ kW) as seen on previous tests made by Bjorn. Thank you for such great tests and videos Bjorn! I am a happy 2019 Ioniq owner thanks to your shared experiences. Hope my explanations are relevant and useful.

    So finally do we know if Ioniq or SR+ is efficiency king? I think it depends also quite on the driving skills. Since Tesla cannot sail, a not so good driver will loose some energy for unintentional regen. While in Ioniq you can switch on sailing mode, which is the most efficient thing.

      @@person2186 I have no idea if Hyundai will be changing anything to do with the charging or if they can do anything at all. For me I don't care that it may take an hour to charge it. In South Australia we only have one 50kw charger and for the driving I do I just don't need it. I'm sure though with the temperatures we have here it will charge a lot faster than Bjorn found it in the cold. I will give it a try one day just to see but all my charging is AC with the majority of it being excess solar from my house via a Zappi charger. The range I am getting now allows me to go wherever I want with just a possible top up on a destination charger to be sure I am charged enough to get home.

    Driving my Ioniq the LFA sometimes gives me a nasty surprise with a sudden jerk left or right in a curve (nice reminder to always keep your hands on the wheel). Might be bad road lining, don't know exactly. On highways it will probably work better.
    Over 2500 (ca. 90 km/day) km my average consumption is now down to 14.5 kWh/100. Still decreasing. Driving a bit of curvy road with a lot of braking and accelerations to work, doesn't help to reduce it. But the lousy (warm) winter helps. Managed to drive 3 days commuting without charging and a bit of local. Had 4% left after 280+ km. (stupidly leftover range dissapears from the screen at 30km)
    Still, rather satisfied with it. Have a home charger, otherwise it would be a pain in the neck.

    According to ' ev-database.uk/car/1165/Hyundai-IONIQ-Electric ' the max charge rate on 50kw charger is 40kw with avg of 34kw. The charge rate max ever is 44kw on more powerful chargers. This is definitely an area hyundai should of improved on rather than downgrading. The old ioniq could reach near to 70kw. So what is the point of liquid cooling at such a low rate? The old ioniq is air cooled but produce more heat i guess at charge rates of 70kw. Seems hyundai just want more items on the vehicle description so unaware non technical (new to EV) people will purchase. I PCP my 28kw ioniq thinking in few years i just get the newer model on a trade in, since it will get better. I think I was wrong and now will be putting my hopes in the vision IV. ☺️ As seen on your previous video, the new Ioniq is excellent value for money but unfortunately still out of reach for many new car buyers in many countries. @finvka1 5 лет назад +2

      @@fergus247☺️ In Finland, my current petrol Citigo had about € 1200 taxes in price. My new Citigo iv has about € 500. Government EV grant reduced the price of the car by € 2000. When I closed the deal, the Citigo iv cost me roughly € 3500 more than my old petrol version. Both were new. The iv also has heated windscreen and automatic climate control as standard, so the real value difference is smaller, maybe € 2000. Citigo iv really is the first affordable EV in Finland, along with sister cars Seat Mii and VW UP. The VW is priced substantially higher, despite lacking some standard features that Skoda and Seat have. About € 5000 more price for worse overall package. And since the Seat has an estimated 21 month delivery time compared to the 6 months of Citigo, it was an easy choice.
