Gotta admit - you're absolutely right about that one, but KID was a WONDERFUL individual. Met him just outside the Shea Diamond Club when I was 15 and skipped school with some friends. Of course we found ourselves at Shea. We went to try to sneak into the bullpen which we actually did. This was 88, afternoon, no game - but what were the chances - the team was boarding a bus to LaGuarudia to head out to the West Coast. I swear to you Carter signed every F-ing kids paper or team schedule or whatever they had in their hand - EVERY SINGLE ONE! Hernandez just walked right by kids who had their arms extended with paper and pen. Bob Murphy muttered to me, "NOT NOW SON." Most players signed but not for long. No one else stayed as long as Gary did. It really is amazing to think about to be honest as I experienced it in person. WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL PERSON!

It was nice when he did zany things like this before he got to be too political.
