Jack Hanna is brilliant and has a phenomenol sense of humor, that's why he can make Dave (funny in his own right) his straight man.

He actually does run the zoo. He's the one in control which shows he's not an idiot. He gets caught up in what he does, just wanting to show as many of the animals as he can which sometimes has him a bit rattled and Dave jumps at every chance. Jack also throws lines, he does it a a way that makes people think he's unaware of it

I used to think he was really funny, but I lost all respect for him. I like Conan O'Brien, but Leno sabotaged his show, which was the clincher for my loss of respect for him. I was lucky to catch them all when they were all still great performers. I don't like any of them anymore. The whole talk show scene went to shit.

Yeah, chalk it up to bad acting skills. I don't think he's inexperience. I know he's well educated, and knows the science, but the guy is dangerously absent minded, and careless at times. I still think he's very entertaining though. Don't get me wrong. I just wouldn't trust him to run a zoo.

All that might be true, but I've watched this guy put animals in danger, watched him let reptiles loose, he let a sloth climb onto a paper shredder, etc. No, he's a bumbling moron, and I wouldn't trust him to walk my dog, much less run a zoo. It's amazing that he does, but there are equally ignorant people running court houses, hospitals, business firms. They all have college degrees, that doesn't really mean anything. Especially when the degrees come from American universities. Sorry!!

Part of the fun here is that Hannah seems like Letterman's younger, much more innocent brother. And they're both studs.
Letterman has over the years always pushed Jack around and never gave him his fair share of time.
