      College football and the NFL were better when targeting was allowed. You had to be a grown man to catch a pass in traffic downfield, not some 160lb punk.

    • @limitedbom2206
      @limitedbom2206 Месяц назад +31

      They changed the rules so defenses can’t smother receivers. Defenses figured it out and learned to play back to limit receivers. Now they want to say you can’t play that far off? If they put in a rule to get rid of 2 high safety, they better give back the ability to aggressively press receivers. You can’t just take everything away from defenders so offenses can score 50 points a game. This is absurd.

      Agreed. The high safety look (also, thank you Dan for explaining it so well!) has been around forever. The offense will have to adjust. It is one thing to make rules to benefit player safety, it's another thing to tell the defense "nah, you've done too good a job adjusting to the high output passing offenses".

    • @axe2grind244

      It nullifies elite QB’s though. Teams with top 5 QB’s are supposed to have an advantage, that’s how all sports work. This would be like MLB telling teams they can’t have pitchers throwing over 100. The NFL is best when QB’s are throwing for 5k yards.

    • @infinity558mippy8
      @infinity558mippy8 Месяц назад

      @axe2grind244 It's hard to say that when even back then top 5 qbs didn't on the regular throw for 5,000 yards I feel like it'll interchange once teams start running the ball more forcing the safeties to roll down or no safeties at all there'll be more opportunities for deep passing plays and if you notice the undefeated teams right now most of them all run the football extremely well which allows them to pass the football like the Bills with Allen like the Texans with CJ like the Saints Derek Carr where the yds per attempt is high bc there able to run the football then use play action to take more deep shots

    • @seanhyland4228

      @@axe2grind244 The bigger problem today is there aren't very many elite Passers in the league anymore. Mahomes is about the only one, and an old Aaron Rodgers. Guys like Allen, Lamar, etc are elite athletes but not elite Passers. Back when we had guys like Brady, Manning, Brees, Rothelisberger, etc. in the league they would have eaten this 2 deep coverage alive by taking 8 yard completions over and over and over all the way down the field. More guys deep means less guys underneath. The QB's today are not good enough Passers or patient enough to pick apart this defense

    Problem with some of these analysts is nobody is saying Aaron needs to throw for 5,000 yards and 40+ TDS. Dan is right however with his point in the Titans game. He didn’t need to throw for a bunch of yards especially when the run game was working, however what I noticed the first two weeks against NY is teams aren’t just running the ball because the run defense is suspect, they are doing it chewing clock to keep Rodgers from taking over a game. He’s 40 years old but these defensive coordinators aren’t fools. He doesn’t have to throw for 300+ yards every game, that wasn’t even expected from Manning or Brady. I watched some of that game while at work Rodgers was making some great throws and didn’t have to do too much.

    Last time I checked, the defense is supposed to stop the offense. Even with these garbage rules to aid the offense, the defense is still doing there job. Let it go.

    If you can move the defensive line and run the football you *dictate* the defensive strategy. The Chiefs and Saints have viable running games (atleast before Pacheco injury) and that enables Mahomes and Carr to attack a defense on its heels.

    Get a QB who can tool you down the seam the way Brady did with Gronk. Get WRs who thrive outside the numbers, like a Moss. We don't need steenking rules to assist Tyreek Hill and other Olympic sprinters. Maybe Mel envisions a "Kiper Rule" that immortalizes him, but Stalin was immortalized too, kinda just the wrong way.

    Sometimes I wish Mel would hush. You can’t aim for wins but use the 70s, 80s and 90s as a proctor. The moment a coach is successful on defense all of sudden they have to pull back back because Terry Bradshaw is upset cause it doesn’t look like his era. Stop it. And I’m 47. How can you every year brag about the next up and coming O coordinators but only because D coordinators hold back and dumb down their coverages to please freakin smell Kiper Jr

    It's called running the football ... the 49ers back in the day showed how to stop the tampa 2 by getting them out of it. Run the football. However, too many coaches don't want to run the football.
