  • Bruce's Beauties is a legendary surf break at Cape St Francis in South Africa, featured in the cult surf movie by Bruce Brown in 1966 "Endless Summer" and named after the movie maker himself. It rarely breaks depending entirely on out-off season combinations of wind and swell to drive waves into the bay and start the point breaking...when it does, it's one of the best in the world. I recently came across footage taken on one such day in May 1985. It's from an 80's VHS camera and was digitised poorly, with a lot of footage blown out and over-exposed due to the low tech auto-exposure programmes of cameras in those days. I have run it through an editing suite and tried to re-colour and adjust the footage but a lot of it features rapidly change quality...but it's still classic footage featuring mostly locals who always knew when conditions were right for Bruce's to work...no mobiles phones or instant videos back then, just experience and luck! It's been split into 3 parts...enjoy!
