I’m Mexican and I lived in 3rd ward from 1991 to 1994. Right on the corner of Tuam and Hutchins across from Emancipation Park. I remember the projects at the alley he mentioned. As a kid I saw a lot of crazy things living there. By 1993 I bought my first half cookie and posted up at the park selling rocks at the age of 14. Funny when I think back that the crack heads I would sell to never tried robbing me as I was only a kid and Mexican at that. The few years I spent there helped mold me into the person I am today. I must say I am so happy mom had no choice but to move us into the projects there because I would have never learned the culture that I will embrace for the rest of my life.
