I was 12 years old and me and my mate who was a boy ball were in the North West corner sitting down early in the first half. Two blokes were standing in front of us, both had black power patches on and one fulla yelled out with his middle finger in the air "Mal Meninga smell my finger!" Big Mal heard him and started walking over to them but was stopped by the referee. I meet him year's later and he signed my 91 Canberra Raiders video ezy Jersey. I told him I was at the 92 game and if he remembered the incident. He laughed and said "I will never forget"
The Raiders caused a big stir when they came to Carlaw Park, A superstar team Lead by the Queensland and Aussie Captain. Besides all the hype and the score Auckland gave them a good go......
These Auckland boy's were up against the giants of the professional rugby league world and would of been back at their jobs the next day ... tim sheens signed Sean Hoppe after this game
Canberra were still dominant. They won in 89, 90, made grandfinal in 91 and then won again in 94 so were strong throughout that whole period and still the team to beat.
See that goal kicking style kids. The torpedo. That was standard practice back then. That was untill union converts Matthew Ridge, & Eoin Crossan irrespectively went over to play for the Sea eagles & the Rabbitohs. Then a young Darryl Halligan. Pretty much banished the technique lol.

If only the spirit of the Warriors had encapsulated the very spirit ,history and pride of this team
I remember Shaun Hoppe carving up that game and getting a contract with the Raiders soon after
