I respectfully disagree with your first point in not enough tech. I like the direct cable to the engine versus "fly by wire" that would raise the price. My big gripes for the 500 are: 180 degree firing order, seat is 2" too low for me and not enough padding, the transmission on the right pushes your knee out, and the tank is prone to denting from the handlebars. Even with these downsides, I am having a tough time finding an appropriate replacement. Good video!

Great points! I really appreciate your perspective, ultimately it is difficult to find a replacement bike, especially for the price. It’s an awesome motorcycle all around.

i agree with you totally. When I bought my 2018 Rebel, there wasn't or hardly any accessories to be had. You had to wait a while till something finally showed up on the after market list. I have purchased the forward controls which helped with having less leg and hip cramps on a long ride. There should have been a gear indicator and tachometer for a beginner bike. I am a short person with short legs, so the 500 is perfect for me.

Thank you for sharing your experience! You are totally right. I get they they are trying to keep the costs down, but I can’t imagine a tach is really that much more expensive, and it’s one of the more common questions I see from new riders. I’ll need to look into the forward controls. My biggest fear is if I end up not liking them after installing them.
      Ride safe!

I think most everything you’re asking for is on an 1100. To me the 3 complaints are:
    1. The stock seat
    2. Lack of Tachometer
    3. The stock exhaust (sounds like a sewing machine)

Yeah, there are a few amount of those items on the Rebel 1100. Might just be nice to see a more expensive 500 option with some additional features.
For sure, the seat and exhaust suck lol

New subscriber here! Just found your channel couple hours ago, and just want you to know that you’re a pretty cool guy! I’m 20 and always have been interested in getting the Honda Rebel 500 as my first motorcycle. Only been on a motorcycle once, and it was awesome!
One video I would love to see if you are comfortable with it is a gear overview, how much everything was, and the importance of it😊

Yo, thank you for the kind words! You won’t regret getting a Rebel, it’s such a fun bike.
That’s a great idea, I’ll need to add that to my list. Thanks for subscribing!

I'm glad about having found a bike WITHOUT electronic gimmicks I don't want and I don't need: I want a bike to drive and nothing else.
But indeed I changed the seat and the exhaust. Now the Rebel is perfect for me!

That’s awesome! I’m really glad you found a bike that works perfectly for you and you have been able to make it exactly how you wanted. Ride safe!

Disagree on point 2, if you want mods you should learn how to do them. Most are not difficult and can be done as long as you can follow instructions from a RUclips video. If someone is riding a machine that could kill them in an instant and can’t follow basic instructions to put on an exhaust they probably shouldn’t be riding.

Appreciate your thoughts, I agree to some extent. New riders can be intimidated and sometimes it’s nice to be able to have a few extra factory options to not even worry about breaking something.
While an exhaust slip on might be straightforward, wiring up a tachometer might be more challenging for someone who doesn’t know how to do that kind of stuff. I see where you are coming from, and think everyone should know how to do basic maintenance on their bike. Cheers!

I too have a Honda Rebel 500 SE and i think that some of your points, while valid, would work against the price point Honda set for this bike. Raising the price would keep a lot of people away.
How about Honda makes another bike incorporating many of your suggestions. Maybe start with the Honda Rebel 1100 frame, make the bike a 750 or even 900. MUST HAVE A BETTER SEAT.
    God bless, ride safe.

I have an 1100 and the seat was the first thing i replaced.

Great points for sure, the Rebel 500’s price is for sure is a big selling factor. I was thinking maybe just having more upgrade options from the factory.
Yeah, that’s a great idea. It would be cool to have a smaller and larger version of the Rebel 1100.
A better seat is a MUST!

      Haha maybe 🤷‍♂️
The 1100 was an awesome bike to ride, for sure.

Totally agree on your second point. we shouldn't have to get aftermarket if we don't want to.

Yeah, it would just be nice to have some other options for the essentials at least.
