  • My life in Gibraltar, some news about Brexit deal between Gibraltar and EU, May 2024,
    Gibraltar, is the British Overseas Territory, and city located at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula. It has an area of 6.7 km2 (2.6 sq mi) and is bordered to the north by Spain (Campo de Gibraltar). The landscape is dominated by the Rock of Gibraltar, at the foot of which is a densely populated town area, home to some 32,688 people (2022 estimate), primarily Gibraltarians.
    Gibraltar is most famous for The Rock of Gibraltar, a 426 meter high limestone rock rising out of the sea. The rock can be seen for many miles. It is home to the Barbary Apes, a type of tail-less macaque which are the only wild monkeys in Europe.
    A unique feature of the Rock is its system of underground passages, known as the Galleries or the Great Siege Tunnels. The first of these was dug towards the end of the Great Siege of Gibraltar, which lasted from 1779 to 1783.

    Always good to see Gibraltar and see everyday life. Great to see Irish Town and main street.
    As regards Brexit we’ve had all that talk too in Northern Ireland. Incompetent politicians talking to hear themselves. They don’t have a clue what to do.
    However I do think these things sort themselves out in the end.
    Love Gibraltar.
    Great to see Gib. Thanks.

    I love the aimless walk about videos! I spent 5 years in south of Spain and visited Gib many many times. It’s a special place. Keep it up, stroll through botanical gardens…

    My wife and I have travelled to Gibraltar on holiday several times, in fact we were married at the registry office there back in 2020. We really enjoy watching your videos chronicling everyday life on The Rock and hope to return for a visit in a year or two - please keep up the good work!

    If there is no agreement Spain will be forced (by the EU) to apply to Gibraltarians the same rules it already applies to Moroccans, US-americans, Chinese or any other country not in the EU. This means control on people , goods and capitals movement. In other words, the same rules that apply in, say, Malaga airport, will apply ar the Spain-Gibraltar border. Since Brexit, a sort of temporary agreement between Spain and UK was in place to make life easier for people both sides of the border. But that temporary arrangement will eventually come to an end soon, one way or the other. If there is no agreement Gibraltar will suffer a lot and its "business case" will probably not be feasible. If there is an agreement, Gibraltar will be part of the Schengen area and this means the EU/Spain border rules will be enforced ar the Gibraltar airport and sea port, which means some British nationals can indeed be refused entry, as already happens in Málaga or any other EU airport. There would be no fence anymore though, Gibraltarians would be able to move into Spain/EU freely.

      the truth is that gibraltar is spanish and ceuta and melilla and chafarinas islands are moroccan

    • @Leelee-eu7je
      @Leelee-eu7je Месяц назад

      You are 100% correct.
      Agreed Gibraltar residents with official cards to prove they are resident will have no issues and will get to enjoy freedom of movement in a common travel travel area as facilitated by Schengen.
      Those claiming to be resident in Gibraltar, but without official residency cards will be subject to getting their passports stamped whether they leave/arrive through Gibraltar airport or any other in Spain, or the rest of the EU, as they will be considered holiday makers if they cannot prove residency.
      This is why its IMPORTANT for anyone from the UK considering a move to Gibraltar you MUST take up a residency option. You cannot just turn up and stay long term in Gibraltar because no one stamps your British passport with an entry visa when arriving at the airport and your just waved through with a smile.
      Your only options for residency are:
      Get a job with a Gibraltar employer.
      Live in Gibraltar with proof of address.
      Become registered as self employed.
      Become a Cat2 resident for tax purposes - minimum £2 million in assets required.
      The previous residency option that allowed you to stay without working or any other hindrance was "self sufficient" and is no longer available. It was available when Gibraltar was part of the EU as freedom of movement is a fundamental principle of being a member of the EU. With a treaty agreement its likely at some point in the future it will become available again for EU residents, but NOT for UK passport holders as the UK is outside the EU.

    Be hard for the Spanish workers in gibraltar too. We can stop them coming in too. Works both ways I'd think. The usual sabre rattling from the Spanish

    • @anonnemo2504
      @anonnemo2504 2 месяца назад

      Yes, there would be no winners in Gibraltar or Spain if there is no agreement. However, I suspect the involvement of Spain's EU masters in Brussels in this too.

    • @josefonsecahernandez9974
      @josefonsecahernandez9974 2 месяца назад

      And British and other EU workers that live in Spain since living there is far more affodable. Indeed, no deal will hurt workers from many countries. On the other hand, beign out of Schegen will hurt really seriously Gibraltar economy, it depends on the access to single market.

    • @anonnemo2504
      @anonnemo2504 2 месяца назад +1

      @@josefonsecahernandez9974 The single market and Schengen are different matters. Gibraltar is not in the single market and will not be joining it. Smooth passage of goods and people across an EU border is possible without membership of the single market.

    Please dont get too depressed as you may be the only views of Gibraltar a UK holiday seeker can enjoy if they lock us out - well maybe not that bad - im sure its just a case of dotting the I`s and crossing the T`s with all the intercountry EU regulations.. i wonder if its to do with immigrant flooding in from certain places. Here in UK i see many people are packing up and going on holiday so people forget their usual life - leave the screen behind - and plan many holidays.. Dare say my friends will say Kevin please take me to Birmingham airport... is you trading done by an automatic software program or is it manual trend data entering..? About the vlogs how about just when you have time - to keep us informed as you say... Always appreciate the effort you put in.. Thanks Janna and not forget Adam... Kevin..

    • @JannaTravels
      @JannaTravels  2 месяца назад +2

      Thank you Kevin 😀 It is a bit sad, because Gibraltar is so proud to be British, even though most of people are very much like Spanish… I wish it just would be like it was before Brexit… I still want to have the border, it feels much safer that way… I trade manually and use the EA, combining , it is more effective but takes most of the time…

    Gibraltar can no longer be british if it comes under eu control. If Gibraltarians can be divided from their british compatriots and eu citizens get preferential access to Gibraltar then british soveriegnty is lost.
