The traditional aspirations associated with the American Dream-success through hard work, homeownership, and providing a better future for the next generation-no longer seem attainable for many people. Instead, there’s a growing void where those aspirations once were, which people are now filling with emotional or political causes. The disillusionment with institutions like the economy, education, and even social structures may be pushing individuals to seek control or meaning in other areas, like activism. This sense of losing direction or control can be exacerbated by the overwhelming information and emotions circulating on social media, which offer an outlet for expressing discontent but may also intensify feelings of helplessness. Rather than addressing personal or societal problems head-on, many might turn to these movements as a way to feel like they’re contributing to something larger, even if it doesn’t directly solve their personal struggles. The underlying issue is demoralization, which seems to come from a deep-rooted sense that many of the promises of modern life-prosperity, purpose, and security-are no longer accessible to the average person. This may be contributing to a kind of emotional or societal crisis, where people grasp onto causes and movements, not just because they believe in them, but because they offer a temporary sense of agency and community in a world that feels increasingly out of their control.
Nobody said it was 'justice'. That's what happens in war. Hamas is responsible for every single child killed in Gaza. Israel is under attack this very minute from Hamas and Hezbollah and fighting for its very existence.

I have never heard Harris criticized the US of creating conflicts (regime change) or wars around the world that had killed millions and millions from Vietnam war, Iraq ... etc.
Raphael Lemkin, who first coined the term genocide, defined it as "the destruction of a nation or of an ethnic group" by means such as "the disintegration of [its] political and social institutions, of [its] culture, language, national feelings, religion, and [its] economic existence". During the struggle to ratify the Genocide Convention, powerful countries restricted Lemkin's definition to exclude their own actions from being classified as genocide, ultimately limiting it to any of five "acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group." Fighting terrorists isn't the same thing as trying to destroy a culture.

There’s a lot to be said about social dynamics, but group think and centralized leadership and behavior based on that is a skewed way of viewing reality and living life. The internet has given that skewed way of thinking and living a gigantic lever. What if we just lived by what was around us at any given time? What if we all minded our own business, tended to our land, and traded (bartered) with our neighbors? Would that be good for the survival of the planet or bad? I think it would double our chances of survival even though it’s not the way we choose to live.

I don't really care that much what is going on over there, except that CHRISTIAN refugees should be given help to move HERE to our CHRISTIAN country. And our CHRISTIAN country should not be getting involved in the barbaric goings-on of non-Christian countries, and CERTAINLY not funding either side of their barbarism. It's good that Israel exists (if they can succeed in keeping it on their OWN strength) because that gives Jews a place to go live besides our CHRISTIAN countries. That doesn't mean we don't have the right to scrutinize and criticize any country and all countries that commit barbaric acts and policies--including Israel (and yet there are bills, contrary to our first amendment, all over our country infringing on our freedom to do that, where Israel is concerned). "Friendship and trade with all countries, entangling alliances with NONE." Something like that, by Thomas Jefferson. And the trade should be fair trade, without selling out our own country in the process. American workers need good jobs that pay a decent wage and a stable REAL currency. And we certainly do not need the "help" of one particular group when it comes to Hollyweird, pornography, etc.

War crime is a war crime my friend, there is no justification, particularly without providing objective facts, context, and evidence.

No matter how much you argue, killing 18,000 innocent children is not justice.
Nobody said it was 'justice'. That's what happens in war. Hamas is responsible for every single child killed in Gaza. Israel is under attack this very minute from Hamas and Hezbollah and fighting for its very existence.
How do you go after the terror organizations?
How would you go after them given what we know about how they wired the entire strip for this war?
Recently it was confirmed that the Civilian to Soldier death ratio in Gaza is 1.3:1
Meaning 1.3 civilians killed per 1 Hamas Terrorist.
This comes from data provided by Hamas themselves who have said 18000 of their soldiers have died.
The UN says that the average ratio of civilians to soldier deaths in war is: 9:1...
This makes the Gaza invasion one of the most precise military operations in human history.
There is no genocide.
It’s called collateral damage in War; the way of Mankind. We are genetically evolved to care more about our own when it comes down to war. Where are the hostages?
Sam Harris is not worth listening to...
Do people actually care what Sam Harris has to say? I thought everyone knew his credibility was blown a long time ago.
100%
Agreed
He is no different than the other millions of brainwashed folk think. He is just part of the brainwashing.
It all started in 2016, something must have happened at that time.
There has been a bit of controversy, but most of what he says is actually thought through and worthwhile to consider, even if you don't agree. With this attitude, I worry about your credibility :D
Whether you like sam or not, facts are facts. Those siding with hamass terrorists and those who think they support palestinians with their stupid protests have indeed losts their minds!
I have never heard Harris criticized the US of creating conflicts (regime change) or wars around the world
that had killed millions and millions from Vietnam war, Iraq ...
His point was different. What number of people screaming about Palestine genocide have read this (or other) definition at least once?
"pornography of racial grievance..." Sam Harris: Based Edition
I’m not a fan of Harris but everything he said up to the 2 minute mark is right on. I saw a supporter of the Palestinians accuse a pro Israeli student of being homophobic. Nobody asked that supporter if she knew the status of LGBTQ people in Gaza. They never ask why there has never been a Pride Month in Palestine, and why there never will be.
Its the first time in almost a century that this dinamic is reversed like this. Until a few months ago, nobody in the west would be caught dead saying anything that could possibly be misconstrued as anti-semitic. Israel had the optics game in its pocket. The destruction of its public image its all its own doing.
Absolutely love and respect Sam and Konstantin ❤. What a great conversation. Thank you for making it happen.
Dead baby's are bad 100% agree, problem is these academic institutions are full of activist students that see no problem with having abortions late term that's a serious asymmetry, it seems their sympathy is very selective.
allowing salience and sentiment to eclipse our sense of context is not only not healthy, it's enfeebling.
We have over 300.000 missing children in the US. Let's stop looking at other countries until we can fix our own problems!

"Look man just because you keep seeing video evidence of genocide doesnt mean there is a genocide, you just dont understand." Nice argument
Even if you accept the numbers of Hamas and think that all 40,000 are non combatants, it still wouldn''t be a genocide. It would be a sign that their tactics are not working. The fact is, however, that even Hamas has admitted that they have lost around half of their fighters.
Do you know the definition and origin of the word genocide?
3 smart, well spoken, thoughtful people together makes for good content…. Despite the comments below that I’ve read.
I have just listened to the first few minutes of this and am now struggling to keep listening. He needs to debate the facts. It is not truly about Israel Vs Palestinians for people with humanity, It is about human beings. The truly informed people see the hypocracy and do not want to support forever wars.
Invite John Meirshhimer or Jeffrey Sachs to discuss this.

Western Men are still strong. We have weak leadership now. A significant enough threat will change everything in the blink on an eye. Many are beginning to hope for that moment. In disgust.
If western men were really strong, they wouldn't have allowed themselves to be lead by the weak.

Nice to hear Sam make sense again. Has he reconciled with Covid yet??
Sam is so hard to listen to now. It's sad. God allows if nothing else for the ability to see past yourself. I fail to see Sam's ability to do so. He's a classic luciferian intellectual. So smart. But nothing past his own understanding. And therefore no humility, grace... Very limiting

One of the biggest problems I see is almost everyone, even a lot of people I know, take things at face value. My philosophy is to question almost EVERYTHING. Even things I might agree with. Many many times, with just the slightest bit of digging, you find that things are not what they seems, or you're only getting one side of the story, or an incorrect narrative is being pushed. I disagree. I think jews genuinely have some sort of pathological inability to engage in self-critique or countenance criticism. It is well and truly uncanny.

The bots are back. "Sam Harris is a clown. He is not even trying anymore". They lack arguments and are merely emotional and meaningless noise.
I really hope they are bots because it is really concerning reading the comments section. Although I suppose it consolidates Harris's general argument about the dangers of the influence of social media groups and the way the algorithm promotes these kinds of echo chambers. I think it might say something about the audience of Tom Bilyeu and the set of beliefs that are prominent among his audience.

How long until a full recovery How are other people in the same market raking in over $450k gains within months, I'm really just confused at this point.
I read on CNBC about someone who is netting $20k a month himself from just his tradings in the market, which is from capital he had amassed long ago. That is incredible. How do people do that?
Huge fan of toms last point about the responsibility to challenge 'problematic' or otherwise, ideas that are gaining momentum in popular culture. Sam was probably triggered by this
I wish I could see a debate between Sam with Konstantin vs Dave Smith with Abby Martin.
Did BB create Hamas? Or other similar groups?
bb helped hamas come in to power and oppressed more peaceful groups from coming into power, this is public knowledge even israelis generals openly admit to.
Once upon a time I thought the popularity of films like Momento would guild enough people's discernment to maybe(?) avoid this online video processing problem. That was long ago.
I like Tom’s “cultural momentum” argument.
Thank you for posting this.
Often people are correct in what they affirm and incorrect in what they deny.
And by the way, Norman said he is not pro Israel, he is not pro Palestine, he is just Pro truth and justice. Why is it so hard for people to accept that someone refuse to choose side?, If someone does not believe or support Israel then no matter how rational and educated that person is, he is not accepted. If truly truth is what we are seeking, why not leave people with their own opinions without subjecting them to name calling when in fact they clearly didnt choose any side, they are only after facts and truth.
Sam Harris is such a faithless liar.
Sam is quite right on Gaza. It's such a pity he got Trump Derangement Syndrome. The funny thing is I also see Trump's narcissism and ignorance as a potential danger to the USA, but I see the much greater actual danger to everything of value in the USA that is happening at this very minute under the present and relatively recent Democrat administrations (going back to the Clintons).

Nothing on the internet is real untill proven real.

First off why does it matter what America believes? Real question. And Secondly; Sam's worldview is so driven by polls that hes created an entrenched nuanced pov based on some arbitrary poll. "75% of Americans". Formulating your opinion based on popularity is nonsense, and choosing polls as your methodology of measuring popularity is even more nonsense.
Hey Sam think for yourself brother. Truth isnt found through taking a vote.
It matters because you're at the mercy of the American Empire that legitimizes its power by what Americans believe. Or are made to believe. For example, if they are made to believe that you're a problem, the Empire will attempt to destroy you.

If all Sam Harris has in his x feed is horrible stuff, that's because it's what he gravitated toward. My x feed isn't about racism or murders, its about my faith and the economy and medical issues and people i follow.

5:25 is absolutely correct. Too many people are CONTROLLED by their emotions more than logic. And they ALLOW themselves to be. I DO find it funny that SH is talking about the need to consider context, given his own well-known, ongoing case of TDS.
That's a bingo! The entire conversation.
Minute 6:30: “… you don’t know what happened just before…” so you cannot judge, argument:
1- you don’t know what happened just before 5 civilians were killed: if so, the reasons to why must be provided and made transparent. It is a war crime to kill civilians and then ask the observer to carelessly assume it must have been for a just cause in the lack of objective evidence! Would you use the same standard and benefit of the doubt for wife beaters?
2- let’s go with your theory, would you give the same benefit of the doubt to the horrific atrocities on October 7th?! Do you seriously want to start a discussion on what happened before to warrant such atrocities on innocent civilians?!
War crime is a war crime my friend, there is no justification, particularly without providing objective facts, context, and evidence.
I’ve read 3 of Sam’s books and his punditry doesn’t match his writing in its content. Some of it completely contradicts what he’s claiming in his books. Causes me not to take what he says as serious as his demeanor.

I think there are way too many people exclusively using System One thinking and the swallowness that produces. We need more System Two thinking among the general population. On another note, we also we need more people to use the approach often used by Thomas Sowell; when confronted with some current event, interpret it within a historical perspective.
The idea that Norman Finklstein did not give a solution to the Israel Palestine conflict is not true. @Konstantin Kisin, Mr. Norman gave you an answer based on the provisions of International law, he said thats how he believed the conflict could be solved, but you said here that him and Baseem Yousef dont have an idea on how to end the conflict. I think that is because their responses or solutions contradict your cognitive bias in the sense that they did not gave you a response that you like hence whatever they say as a solution wont be accepted by you even if thats the best way.
