Hell of a review!!! We'll get right on an SL version handle! 😂😂😂 Try this one tho because that shape helps with the accuracy! Let the axe aim for you instead trying to aim the axe. I probably need to do a video on this hahahahah SCIENCE! 🔬
Thanks, I actually do like the racing palm swell. I did, however, slim down the handle. Check out my Testing Lamaca video if you want to see how she cuts on her first day out. And yes, please make more videos!
I think if you use the racing style handle for a while you may grow to like it. Definitely looks like the nicest and best quality premium axe out there. looking forward to seeing how it chops
I’m gunna. I think it’s from my years of playing hockey, but I don’t like a large palm swell just like I preferred a small butt end when I played. We’ll see.
@@KevinsDisobedience g'day Kevin, got mine today. Beautiful bit of gear. The forging, grind, hang and handle are all spot on. Thinner in the cheeks and much lighter than I'm used to, compared to my Tassies, but cuts crazy deep on these hard ass Aussie gums.
Well, After watching a few videos on this axe, several times over the last few days... I have now set myself to acquiring one if at all possible. Perhaps the other two as well, but this one, oh goodness.
It’s definitely the prettiest axe I’ve ever owned. Believe it or not I traded it already. Basically a Welsh pattern. But I have the Lamaca SFA cross and it’s a beauty too. I’ve no doubt the double is worth having as well. You might just want to contact ML personally and get exactly what you want. But either way i don’t think you’ll go wrong. Good luck. Hope you’ll stick around and see you in the chat. Cheers
@@KevinsDisobedience Hmmm... I just might do that. In my mind, if this was a bit more like a Connie/Tassie...add a pound +, thicker center, slightly shorter bit reach with more edge length...29-30" slightly curved haft...bah. Anyhow, I am sure to become a bit of a nuisance around here. Hard work, the outdoors and a touch of philosophy. I like it.
What about the smell of rusty barn find and the very faint impression of a stamp that you know is under the decades of dirt grime and rust... Ya..some will just never know...lol
@@JourneyNorthAK Ah yes... the pulse races! Funny story... I’d been watching Buckin’ Billy Ray for quite some time and he got me interested in the Black Raven axes. Being in an area with a 350+ year old history there are lots of old farms and homes in the area. As a kid axes were laying all over the place... In recent decades (post 9/11) there has been a huge influx of city people. Axes are decorator pieces now and even crap heads have stupid prices in them. That didn’t deter me from keeping any eye out for a Black Raven. Anyhow, within the past year I cleaned out the equipment shed at my house. I’ve been here 25 years and never really cleaned it up... don’t want rush such things.😉. Anyhow, I moved a bunch of old wooden storm windows and saw an axe between the studs. It was a Black Raven and in good shape! I cleaned it up the dirt with a soft brass brush and Simple Green and found original finish including paint in the embossing. I am pleased to have it.
Not sure why, but my comments from my other channel will not go through to any of your vids. Cool axe though, look forward to seeing more of it in the future. It's amazing it can be so light with that type of profile. Goes to show how grinding wings out can reduce weight
I’ve seen you tried to comment twice, but when I clicked on it I couldn’t see it to respond. Not sure why. I have a video testing the axe in the can. Look for it this weekend. I’ll be dropping a custom axe build later today or tomorrow. Thanks for the support.
They aren’t a production company. More like a few guys out making axes out of their home workshops. Check them out! Lane goes by Bushcraft Sisyphus on RUclips.
I agree I think it’s one of this axes main competitors, along with Oschenkopf’s Racer. I haven’t had my hands on either, so I can’t really say. What I know for. Gransfors, and what I’ve seen with their lighter axes is that the hang will be solid and the handles thick. You’ll also be filing the checks back to get it to chop well. Is the work saved worth an extra $200? Not sure, but I don’t think that’s all Lamaca offers. It’s kind of a collectors item as well; it’s gorgeous and there aren’t many out there. Let me know what you decide. Also, if you go with the Lamaca you may be waiting awile; whereas Amazon can get you a GB in two days.
I've been using the GB American Felling axe for a few months now. Great axe. I've also ordered the Lamaca. I'm very excited to recieve the axe. I'll look to post a video of using the two when it arrives.
Hi Kevin!!😀😀 That's a really beautiful axe!!😀👍👍 If I may ask. What do they get for such a beautiful piece of craftsmanship?? I bet you will sleep with it under your pillow. LOL!! Take care my friend!! Logger Al
$400. Expensive, I know. But not nearly as expensive as Tuatahi or a Basque Racer. I guess it’s main competitors are the Oschenkopf Work Axe/Racer and maybe Gransfors American Felling Axe.
Eh, doesn't do it for me. I think a work axe should have like a 20 degree flat chisel grind, which I think the Tuatahi work axes have. It's probably plenty tough, but looks too thin in the cheeks to be a good splitter. If I could make axes, I'd go for a 5.5 inch bit, an 18 degree flat chisel grind, and a conical tapered eye for slip-fit handles.
I doubt it will split well. They say as much in the letter they sent. They way you describe the axe you would make is pretty much the way I set up my most used axes. Except the slip fit. I’m not a fan. All my mattocks and pick axes that were slip fit are now fixed. Also I’d like something closer to 2.75lbs as an all-arounder, but this thing is wicked I promise you.
Following up again. I don’t own a racing axe so cant say, although Lane did say the shape is inspired by racing axes. A few guys I know say it’s nothing like a race axe. I’ve heard it called a Tassie, which I don’t quite see. It wasn’t a fan of its front heavy beard after using it some more. Also, for me, it’s too heavy for a work axe. 3lbs is about what I want.

That’s a gorgeous axe right out of the box. Not many companies take that kind of pride in their products anymore.
It definitely is. I traded it though, as I was crazy about the head geometry. But there’s not doubt they nailed the aesthetic.

I don’t doubt it. Thanks for watching!
I absolutely love the videos and the unboxing keep up the great content👍🏻
Thanks, I’ll have a new one out later today. Axe Restoration!
Beautiful axe
That thing is freaking awesome!!!!
That’s an understatement!
Looks perfect, jealous. Still waiting for mine to get down here to Aus!
I’d love to hear what you think about yours, and how close it is to mine. Cheers mate.

Definitely beautiful! Be interested to know how you like after some more use and what you’d compare it to.
Man, that's a gorgeous axe!!!.
I wish i had enought money to spend....

Pretty stunning bit of gear 😍
It’s a nice axe, but a little too heavy for a work axe-at least for me. I sent it to Owen Jarvis to use and we’re working out a trade.
Hi! What did this axe cost (and how much was shipping)?
$450 shipped.

No need to apologize. I enjoy interacting with you guys.
Somehow I consider myself an axe guy but I’ve never heard of Lamaca before this video.

I'm looking at this or the GB felling axe, thoughts on if the price difference is worth it? As far as a full size general purpose axe?

Yes, please do a video using the. Side by side. Id consider the GB if you could buy just the head or get it on a shorter handle.
i don't think i've actually ever seen this video somehow! haha

@@KevinsDisobedience all in all that really isn't that bad of a price for such a fine hand made axe.
I don’t think so either. I’m not sure what their profit margin is, but it can’t be very high given the cost of materials, labor, and shipping.
I like unboxings.

Very beautiful axe, but with that angle on the edge and that haft it makes me think of a racing axe, not a working axe at all.
