Man, I'm sure the guitar needed a cigarette after that...
It’s actually a hard solo to pull off that well 😂 hard ass bends and vibrato and shredding
I know that’s true lol love it
I’m sure lol
Best comment
I died after this🤣
Steve Lukather is a genius.
Riley Young indeed
Riley Young you are right
Dude don't get the respect he deserves tbh.
Seen him live many times. Got to meet him before Covid. You think you will be cool but when the dude is in front of you his legacy goes through your head & you start thinking “Holy Fuck he’s in front of me!”. He’s evolved as a player & aged gracefully. That said I remember seeing him quite young on Toto IV tour. It was a baffling experience! These days you have 12 yr olds with amazing technique but during that tour he was running around stage jumping off pianos & the chameleon like guitar playing really made your jaw fall. It was picking like Al DiMeola, jazz-rock elements like Carlton, slinky Jimi R&B type licks & funk on a single coil EMG Strat while running 🏃♀️ lol 😂
IMO this is his best guitar solo. "Rosanna" had everything in the right places, but this is my favorite example of "This is how Luke sounds."
This is one of the best solo covers I've seen. Perfect tone, nice vibrato, not a bit sloppy. Damn good job.
Yet loads of fucktards disliked it 🙄
@@motorz999 can't understand it
Smokin. Extremely difficult to exact something Steve flew off the cuff in the studio. It was straight up emotion for him when written I’m sure.
Guarantee he didn’t sit down and go, well I’ll start with pentatonics and slide in to a major 3rd bend blah blah blah!! No, it’s got to come out naturally, using the roadmap/theory he’s learned along the way. 99% emotion and in the moment!!
For great guitarist like Steve Lukather, and many others the solo writing process goes much like this...
1)Feel the emotion and groove of the riff/song
2) incredible knowledge around the guitar helps, but careful not to dissect too much of that..
3)Roll tape and let loose
4) damn, I gotta learn what I just did!!
Then and then only do you dissect the theory behind it.
To recapture that, even for Steve is almost like asking the impossible.
@@Plowguitarist u gotta chill with the weed my guy
The tone is not raw as the original, is a little bit sweet
That was awesome. The quality of the audio is really well done. Your an incredible musician. Thanks for sharing your talent with us.
Thank you for your words, they're really appreciated!
David Escobar you speak portuguese
Best Solo i have seen on youtube. Spot on
GTA SAN ANDREAS
if the police can't stop you, you must be on.... the dust!!!
"We're in the dust, try not to shit your pants!"
"music never gets old, just a little dusty"
"You can cry about the miscarriage or keep drinking. Rock on."
"Non of that rap crap, the Dust"
First of all thank you, all I can say is I work as hard as I can to make videos with good playing, nice tone, readable tabs, musical diversity , and video quality.
I'm not perfect, and I obviously make mistakes. Keep in mind that all of these solos are transcribed by myself, many of them without ever seeing the fingerings the original players use.
Furthermore it is impossible to make everybody happy regarding what they want or expect to see and hear, so I can only try my best at what I do.
youre a humble guy which is cool .....must say you have this solo down scarily perfect from what i see.
Cool cover man! Did u use economy picking in that solo?
You do a fantastic job from what ive seen your videos are some of the best on you tube clear and accurate you are a clever guy indeed !
Thanks David!!!! Ive struggled with this solo for so long!!! Toto is one of my all time favorites! Thanks so much!
All your work is top class 👍
i wonder how did lukather come up with this beautiful solo
boni hutahaean No mere mortal can do this. He's part man and all guitar-god!!!
I’m assuming drugs played a factor in it
Wilson Minogue no doubt
Why do you wonder? The guy's something else!
@Anapsique Band Keep diggin'.
This is easily one of the most underrated solos in history, It is just one of the best solos ever!!
I stll come back to this after years, hoping that this is the day I am motivated enough to learn it from your transcription :D!
David you are flawless lol
Eres de los mejores guitarristas que he visto David, espero que pronto sigas subiendo videos, saludos!
The economy picking section is stunning, I think you played even more notes than Lukather himself
Nailed it!
¡Hala mierda! Te sale igualito :D
0:27 wtf? where does that bend note come from??
Lol... its pre recorded and he did not play the note on the video...Damn I did not catch that... I was focused on the tab and audio. .that note/bend which is hard to do btw and it be clean. I play the whole step bend on the 19th fret of the B string....it flows better.
I've also noticed that, but as it turned out, the backing track includes that note.
I'ts pretty much just the delay pedal. After the bend on the 17th he kills the note and the sound continues on with the delay effect. This guy is really good, I doubt he pre records his takes and edits them.
it sounds like delay
Really Really Really awesome stuff my man. Congratulations, subscribed and shared
Si señor me quedo sin palabras
Una pequeña correción
A little correction
El bending en el 0:23 (Cuerdas de la guitarra B - 17 G - 16) el bending se hace en la tercera cuerda. no en la segunda como indica la tablatura
The bend on 0:23 (Guitar String B - 17 G - 16) is performed on the third string, not in the second as the tab shows
Merci beaucoup.
Hands down best solo lesson. No boring talking or playing so slowed down that it loses it's melodic phrase. You have stop and play button, playback speed settings, and tab at the bottom.
Perfect!
Thanks man, the best idea in my opinion is slowing things down when they're passing by so fast, at least that's what I do. For developing your ears, you can slow things way down up to a 50% of the actual speed for the first fast solos you want to learn, once you gain experience doing that you can learn new solos at 70% speed and work your way up to real time.
I use Best Practice software that lets me slow down tracks, transpose and fine tune and even Karaoke. And the best part: It's free!!!
Do you maybe have an advice for learning a solo by slowing it down, when learning a heavily distorted wah wah solos?
Although i can learn a song when i slow it if it sounds more or less clean, i tried In a gadda da vida by Iron butterfly, and slowed down many parts sound like a giant mess.
7 people need their hearing checked! That was spot on and awesome! One of my most favorite solos from all time! Learning how to do the extreme bending from Steve Lukather made me a much better guitarist and opens up alot of new avenues on the neck for sure! Keep up the awesome work!!!
seems I have to say on every music video I see "why do you feel the need to have your views re-inforced by anyone else"? Forget others' opinions, forget your tribal tendencies and just enjoy what you will. Sheesh!
Perfect way of playing, perfect touch and sound, every time. I love!
I'm not even a Toto fan, but I love this song. Ive always thought this was one of the best solos I ever heard!
best solo ever!
The lick at the very end (bar 17 and 18) is one of the tastiest things I've ever heard...
Good ears. Love that and that extra note you wouldn't expect to be there, but that makes it even cooler and more unique.
You play it better than the original
you nailed this ;)
You are i guess one of the best cover guitar players in the world!
YOU ARE A GENIUS AT IMPERSONATIONS! This and sweet child o' mine are note perfect to the originals. I've listened to the originals of these two ( my favourite solos of all time) seen all the tabs, tutorials, even transcribed them myself, and YOU my friend are the closest anyone's ever come to SOUNDING like the real thing! That is true dedication my friend. Bravo.
Hi David.
It is really super awesome guitar solo cover I've ever seen before.
A part from this video, every your work is all awesome.
I will be even more happy if you would create an youtube lesson for "How to record the guitar playing like David".
Thanks again for your great playing.
Between 0:37 to 0:41 you shred off 61 notes! That's slightly over 15 notes PER SECOND! And every one is clean, clear, articulate and picked! VERY impressive! Dare I say maybe even a little bit better than ol' S.L. himself? Yeah, I'll say it!
for sure better than the studio version, nowadays though he’s improved so much to where very few can even touch him
Excellent job my friend! Excellent. Very hard to catch Steve's vibe and you did.
you're great man! :)
the last part of the solo (faster part) you play in "legato" or alternate picking?
thanks and congrats!
I use Economy picking for that, so all the notes are picked but keeping the motion from one string to another.
Man that wide vibrato is scintillating. AWESOME
How about the solo from Yngwie Malmsteen "I am a Viking"...especially that first up run is amazing...I would love to sse tabs of that!
What kind of microphone you use to get such quality ?
It's common to place a mic right beside the amplifier or just plug the guitar straight into a preamp. He said he used the first method for this. Exactly what such microphones are called, I don't remember, but they have a pattern that limits the amount of room tone they capture by only picking up sound from within a small radius.
Hi, sorry for not answering before, it's been a while but if I'm right I used an SM 57 and an AKG 214 for this solo.
Thanks Steve, I'm already working on another Malmsteen solo but I will surely work on I am a Viking after that.
Great! How do you play bars 12 and 13? economy picking? It goes into pure legato into bar 13 doesnt it?
I learn the solos by ear and then make the tabs.
I am looking for GTA san andreas comment
Subscribed-superb work!
Ive watched this an unhealthy amount of times
You're so damn faster than Steve Lukather lmao 😂 Very good job man
Like all of your solos, the most accurate version in every way. Just love all your work, especially 'Hold the Line'. Thank you very much. One challenge: no one on RUclips seems to be able to do the solo from "Magic Man" by Heart. Any chance you can attempt it? Also the 2nd solo in "Tonight" by Randy Rhoads. Best wishes for the New Year 2014.
sick vibrato
The key to this one is that super wiiiiiiide vibrato. Almost like a whole step of range between the picked note and the bending of the vibrato. And of course there’s to super fast shreddy stuff too, but if you can nail the vibrato you can kinda cheese your way through the super fast stuff and come out alright lol. Nice job, bud
Thanks again, I got it down great now. The fast alternate picking part at the end I just made up my own way, just followed the logical notes and it sounds the same, especially while muting the notes. I am very thankful for all your hard work. I can figure out solos myself, BUT, watching you, I don't have to. Love the Tab at the Bottom too. you are a great player my friend. Take Care, Tex!
Yes, E A D G B E
so many memories from gta.. this makes me wanna play that game again:(
Gta?
@@jonastorkelsen1813 Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Hi David: would you describe your picking technique as circular, or at least partly circular? e.g., it appears from viewing the video that you acquire some of your speed (ref: the fast, legato-lacking bars 12 & 13) via that subtle circular-looking thumb & forefinger motion-----as opposed to getting speed primarily via the wrist. As I've gradually developed a style of circular picking the past few months (though I've still got a ways to go; I'm still pretty sloppy when moving away from my typical speed-coming-from-my-wrist-motion technique) it does seem as though this gets me some additional speed that I hadn't necessarily yet acquired. Yet others say circular picking is *not* required to increase/maximize picking speed. Any thoughts? I'd really appreciate it!
I wouldn't really know what to say to your question. I'm assuming by circular picking you mean using economy picking and keeping the picking motion when going from one string to another. I use both alternate and economy picking depending on what sound I'm going for, since alternate has a more percussive sound, and economy sounds more fluid.
0:32...all those bendings perfectly equal and the last one with a flawless vibrato...what a skills
This solo is masterpiece for itself, work of genius.
Here 2019 to learn this timeless solo. Very well done, nice tone and flow. Awesome that you provided the tabs! 🤘🏽🤘🏽
Gracias Andrés, esta guitarra no tiene ninguna modificación, los pickups de fabrica son son 57 Classic en el diapasón y BurstBucker 3 en el puente.
Found your vid a couple of weeks back. The more I watch it the more in awe I become. Your right hand action is just beautiful, it looks so effortless and fluid! Well done sir! 🤘🏽🤘🏽
Fact:
Steve Lukather was only 19 when he recorded this.
how did you get that sound? the amp setting, please :D
How did this video get 88 dislikes! There are some real twats that exist on our planet 🌎
How long did it take you to get your solo perfect like this?
Going through this playlist I just see awesome solo after solo, you have good taste my friend
fck man that section starting at 0:36 and ending at 0:42 is so difficult :D. hardest 6 seconds i need to work on. Nice playing dude and love your other stuff! Keep on rocking \m/
Great playing of one of my favorite solos !
Your cover is spot on!
Out of curiosity, Lukather uses his neck pick up for the solo in the official song video; was that just a mistake in the video or did he actually use the neck pickup? Just wondering because I've noticed you're using the bridge pickup and it sounds so close to the original!
Haha busted. The track you're listening to has been mixed and isn't the same as the video. The video also looks like it's sped up in places, or it's been recorded at a slower tempo and brought back up again. 🧐
the video is just a acting, in the whole video his guitar is in the position of the neck but the riff and the solo doesnt sound to be in the neck pickup but yes in the bridge pickup
Just sitting here with my Yamaha Pacifica YMX wishing I had a fraction of this skill :(
His note choice is bonkers! I can play this fast but not those notes
Incredible talent man! Steve Lukather's solo put this song on another level completely. Incredible shred mix with melody!!
What model lp is that? I want a tobacco burst so bad but only finding em with fat 59 necks.
Bar 12 to 14 blew my mind lol that fingering and picking is just insane.
STEVE LOOK (ed) AT HER ) his real name :))
absolutely killer I got freaking goose bumps
Man every time I hear this the hairs on my arms grow 6 inches 🤟🤟🤟
A million thanks for posting this and for being so generous as to also provide the tabs with the real time moving indications in each bar. Congratulations on your wonderful playing and thanks again for your post. I absolutely love that solo (one of the best ever in my book)!
No me chingues, tocas excelente!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Y compones tambien muy chingon.
Eres un genio
I haven't tried it yet, but I will surely do it.
You think you can post the tab?
Hey David, awesome playing! For the fast part in bar 12 and 13, are you doing economy picking or just alternate picking?
hellguitar91 Hi, it's got a bit of both but maybe more economy than alternate.
David Escobar Cool, thanks for the reply!
Jesse Fildes
he says he's economy picking, and he might well be for bar 12 (i prefer alternate in that passage), but here and in the actual solo itself, i'm pretty positive the vast majority of it is legato other than certain accented or otherwise essential notes that must be picked. maybe we just have different definitions of economy picking
any chance tabbing a few other Toto tunes? - white sister or solo 2 Roseanna? that was top ... thankyou been trying to play this for a longtime..
Yes Joseph, I'll start working on it and hopefully Rosanna will be one of the next solos.
Goddamn that was fire🔥🔥
what's your e-mail?
Goddamn this solo is hard... I've been practicing this solo for like 5 months and can't still quite get the 0:35 part ;(
Extremely good cover tho! Well done!
The smoke on the water part?
.... I'll show myself out.
