I loved Ghost of Tsushima, so much I had to do the platinum trophy. But I am enjoying this game and feel it shouldn't be compared as they both are different in there own ways. It maybe worth mentioning that the customization in Rise Of The Ronin is superb, from customizing the look of the character to using different skins to allowing you to choose to change the look if your amour to anything you have previously collected and when you change the armor to a better piece it will continue to look how you want rather than change to what the new armor piece looked like. I have made my character look like a fully blacked out sub zero.
I feel 7 out of 10 is fair. Personally I’d give it an 8/10. I’m enjoying the story. I like the twist that make certain characters you feel have plot armor get killed (keep that in mind when working on bonds, might be wasting your time). Certain villains have plot armor and “get back up”, can’t kill the final bosses at the beginning right? The story is a bit complicated and carries a lot of nuance. Basically everyone wants the same thing but has different methods of accomplishing it. Thing to keep in mind is your character is after something specific that isn’t part of what’s going on in the world. It’s really easy to lose focus on that though. The combat is fantastic however I find the R1 + right stick to switch styles feels imprecise and slow (I often take a hit switching styles). Building bonds with NPCs is great! Not only can you romance certain characters you are incentivized to do so for rewards at specific levels of bond. Combat style rank enhancements are awesome. Character creator is pretty good too! Got to make my anime waifu which always has me more invested in character growth. Graphic wise, it looks just fine. I don’t have any complaints while playing. It’s not over stylized like GoT (anyone that’s been to Japan knows that’s not how it looks, at least not every 10 feet). It’s a bit more realistic. As far as Ubisoft comparison goes I feel that’s a tired trope touted by the hive mind. It has more similarities to the Witcher 3 than Ubisoft games. So if you can make that connection than have at it. Unlocking things on the map have more meaning than you typically find in an Ubisoft game like skill points and such. And personally I don’t think there is anything wrong with enjoying Ubisoft games/style.
OR MAYBE people just don't like it that much and you can't accept it. There are people who put in 50+ hours and still found it mediocre. Not everyone likes it, get over it.
@@Rnzzy The overall user reception is very positive thus far and critics definitely went into the game with a lot of bias* and it shows, considering that it literally scored quite a bit worse than even Wo Long, which is kind of a joke. *e.g. RotR got a lot of harsh critique for its open-world formula while other games that do pretty much the same things regularly get a pass for that - most recently FF7 Rebirth.
The combat, setting, hell, even the gorgeous music score are top notch. The good part overshadows the bad one, to the point I want to master every weapon and combat style. In general, the game feels dated, but still, its a game I feel like playing every single day. Drawing distance is not great (why not show all the equipped weapons, also?), NPC routines are too basic, the loot system is quantity over quality. The game would benefit a lot from better populated cities and building interiors. That said, these are minor issues compared to the amazingly crafted combat, in my opinion.
Honestly, I love this game, but I might be bias as it’s one of my favorite parts of Japanese history. I will say the choices do fall flat. But, the way they had certain characters influence the ways things that did happen was about as good as it could be given that they didn’t want to stray too far from what roughly happened in the bakumatsu. Graphics are mid but the combat and certain characters stories really grabbed me. Solid 7/10 from my perspective but I do understand the negative sides of the argument.
Idk if I’m sounding rude by saying this (I probably am), but I’ve absolutely loved Alex’s reviews over the last bit of time and he’s a much better rapid fire reviewer than Del was. I don’t always agree with Alex’s takes, but he still does an excellent job explaining his points, pros and cons, and coming at it from a casual gamer perspective. When it came to Del, it was very difficult to understand his perspective because he’s someone who can put hundreds of hours into something, eventually trivialize everything, and even say the game becomes way too easy or boring after trivializing it. Not to say Del isn’t a good gamer, just not a great reviewer imo since he has a vastly different perspective compared to most casual gamers. Long winded way of saying it, but thank you for these bite sized and insightful reviews, Alex. Keep up the good work.
I definitely am not the type of person who spends hundreds of hours in any one game, but I do think that insight is valuable in this space. I do agree though, I enjoy Alex’s reviews more because it appeals to how I play games
I think that addition of Alex to the AJS was one of the best decisions ever made by Joe. Not only does he balance out opinions and tones but his individual videos also pair super well with the values Angry Joe seems to have for games wihle also covering genres Joe isn't familiar with.
It’s okay but not as good as Nioh 2 and Wo Long. It got boring for me on the second map (I’m still on Edo). However, storywise it’s pretty good. I always love how Team Ninja base their games around historical events.
I enjoyed this game but I had no urge to keep playing unlike Nioh 1, I know it’s a different time period, setting, and Nioh has Yokai. But still even the music was more memorable in that game.
This is literally all I ever wanted AC to do. Give me a sick ass combat system and I will enjoy running through your world doing every quest. Literally have fell in love with the combat. Great game. Hmmm I am somewhat interested, but sorta kill me with one feature you mention. Since I have seen it multiple times as someone who plays a lot of warriors game. The stupid ass temper system, Dynasty Warrior has it, Samurai Warrior has it, Nioh has it, Orochi Warrior has it, and I think Wo Long has it too. It's so dumb, makes you feel like you have to use the feature. Why can't I just pick a weapon and stick with it to the end, but no. You'll find hundreds of either par or worse, maybe get lucky and find a decent one, but that's such a hassle to constantly check and sell.

Good commentary
I hope Final Fantasy VII Rebirth gets the full Angry Joe review!
The game been out for 2 months now, so I don't think AJ cares about Rebirth at this point.
It's just another remake, not worth a full review.
@@joematic2896 looser

This games is super fun! Reviewers rush through it just to put a video out.
Team Ninjas bread and butter is combat so all these extra elements are not needed but I applaud them giving it a go 😎👏👏.
A rapid? A Review? Hopefully not for black myth wukong🙏🏽
It looks stiff and nothing new. I feel like I've played this type hundreds of times. No interest at all
Honestly, I love this game, but I might be bias as it’s one of my favorite parts of Japanese history.
Stellar blade needs a full review
Yo! The Joe cameo was welcome. Glad to hear from you as always Alex.
True, not every game is supposed to be played for 100s of hours...most story games Are Not.
I don't think it deserves to be a full price game. $40 or $50 would be more suitable for it.
Will get it at a discount when it comes to PC.
That's why I didn't buy it. Graphics aren't everything, but at $70, I expect the full package.
It’s okay but not as good as Nioh 2 and Wo Long. It got boring for me on the second map (I’m still on Edo). However, storywise it’s pretty good. I always love how Team Ninja base their games around historical events.
I’ve been planning to get this one, it looks pretty cool and I wasn’t aware that you could make your own character
It’s made by Nioh, Wo Long Team Ninja which you could customize your character as well.
There's also presets like William Adams (protagonist of Nioh 1) if you want to play as him
It’s fun definitely worth getting if you like samurai games.
@@eradicatedpulse6896Wait you can make your own character in Nioh? How the main character looks is kinda what turned me off the game.
@@HustlerKid0Nioh 2 let's you create a character
I enjoyed this game but I had no urge to keep playing unlike Nioh 1, I know it’s a different time period, setting, and Nioh has Yokai.
But still even the music was more memorable in that game.
The trailers really made this game look way better than it does
Not really. It looked horrible from day one to me.
Bro what it looks like a mobile game Mafia trailer
That's the point of a trailer
Ya they catfishing big time for this ps3 crap lol
Lol no. This looked like Ubisoft open world type slop since the first trailer.
This is literally all I ever wanted AC to do. Give me a sick ass combat system and I will enjoy running through your world doing every quest. Literally have fell in love with the combat. Great game. The exploring is fast paced and smooth. I love it. Team ninja did great for this being there first open world.
So i might as well replay ghost of tsushima
One of my favorite Rapid Fires in a while. Thank you, Alex!
Welcome to the rapid fire review for Sekiro Shadows die twice bargain market edition
This isn't even trying to be Sekiro
I like how Joe corrects him just for some humor. I never really watch these but might now. Didn't know you guys really had these.
While it is overpriced, i am enjoying the game. It looks decent enough and the combat is fun.
This may as well be an Ubisoft game. It certainly has the Ubisoft formula down to a T... just with more interesting combat.
Great review Alex, I'll skip it I think.
Game is awesome bro dont let this youtubers cloud your judgment
Same Imma wait for a sale, definitely not gonna drop $70 for this.
Wow?
No Stellar blade on main series? Are main series blocked by some big incoming review or something?
stellar blade deserves a full review ngl
Don't hold your breath
Thanks for the review. Knew next to nothing about this game but kept hearing about it. Now I know it's nothing worth caring about, especially with Ghost of Tsushima coming to PC pretty soon.
Really theres tons of people saying its a good game but instead of.playing it some shitty review changes your mind i swear gamers these days aint real gamers....
@@lordhorg999 The opinions of console consumers are worthless. You would buy a next gen console for a PS3 game disguised as a $70 PS5 exclusive. "Real gamers" don't buy into that shit.
@@atrocious7766 Fr tho, the $70 price point is crazy. $40 is more reasonable.
@@lordhorg999 I didn't claim it was a terrible game, just that I learned enough from this to know I wouldn't be interested in it. If combat is the only above average thing about it, I'll be happy to wait for Ghost of Tshushima. If I'm gonna invest in an open world game, it damn better have a good story, immersive world and decent side activities, which this apparently doesn't have.
@@atrocious7766 imagine being a grown adult and talking about "real gamers" 😂
This got a 7? So you're telling me if Ubisoft made a game with this kind of combat (which is at best TN second best) we'd get a 9/10 game?
7/10 is very fair. I think the story in this game is presented very poorly, in true Team Ninja fashion. The game feels too low budget in general compared to games like Ghost of Tsushima, which also didn't have a huge budget but still felt very polished and high quality.
The combat in this is very solid, one of the things Team Ninja always gets right. I think the side content is pretty much the best part of the game, it really allows you explore this cool world they've built. I beat the story after 64 hours and I was nowhere near done with the side content. Plenty of stuff to do.
I can't believe they're still developing games for PS3. I just might have to dust that thing off! This oldie is no more than $40 right?
Try $70 dollars😂
@@KAGIICHII In a world where I got BG3 for $50, this garbo has no business being a $70 PS5 exclusive. 😆

2024 seems it will be a year full of 'okay' games
Stellar blade demo looks sick tbh
This reminds me a lot of Way of the Samurai, so I'm really hoping this'll come to pc someday
Even tho I totally understand why people complain about "too much loot" It worries me because then we go from Nioh to Wolong :( from getting potentially too much to ridiculous low amounts, and so I much way much rather get too much then the opposite, so please mention that when you complain plz if you can... great review
What do you mean? All team ninja have exactly the same loot system. In Wolong instead of thoundsands of useless loot they change it to hundreds of useless loot. Not that I ever care about their loot system anyway.
Im enjoying it... personally its 7/10 for me. Its solid
Most underrated game this year by far
Maybe if it came out in 2014
If I may I ask if we will be getting a Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth full review or rapid fire review ?
You're not getting either of them. Aj said he's skipping and alex doesn't like ff7 rebirth.
I rate this game a 7/10 as well and for many of the same reasons too, but not all of them.
This is the best rapid fire review easily and that's saying something cause I love all of them.

Lmaoooo this gameplay is far better than GOT
Thx for the review.
Extremely disappointed by the graphics 😔 And after watching a few videos about it, I find the gameplay, combats, camera movements etc. looking a lot like AC Valhalla (but playing the game might actually feel different). I like, and often agree with, Alex's points of view, so when I hear him talk about a not so compelling story, and describe a loot/upgrade system ressembling AC Odyssey's..... well, I'll definitely wait for the price to go down before considering to purchase it.
Anyway, thx again for the review
Agree the graphics could of been like ghost of tushima , for a 70$ game
while ghost of tsushima wasnt exactly high poly textures itself apart from armours and swords.
Is it just me or does it looks like the horse is shitting itself when running?
it looks like they forced team ninja to make an open world game when they really didn't want to
Team Ninja is not known for graphics or writing but the combat is awesome. Really enjoying this game.
welp maybe they should improve the things they are not known for.
Team ninja needs to grow their games, they should stop trying to be one trick pony
I really want to play one of these new open world games set in Ancient Japan, haven't picked one yet. I'm a huge fan of the 3D Ninja Gaiden games, I'm not that into souls like games but will give any great game a shot. Would you recommend Ghosts of Tsushima, or maybe Sekiro, or this new Rise of the Ronin with that Team Ninja combat I love? From watching ganeplay, I'm guessing Ghosts is what I should try 1st.
Ghost of tsushima also had the ubisoft open world stuff too, idk why it gets a pass, and the one thing ubisoft games are not is ugly, look at origins. I think its just gaming snobbery tbh
Yeah people are sitting around at home just waiting to pounce on any ubisoft announcement and immediately denounce it because they find community in doing so
Stellar blade should not be a rapid fire. If you did a full blown rant for that suicide squad garbage, then do the same for this.
I’ve never played a team ninja game for its story😂 let’s get to the combat
the combat is a step backwards too. if you are a team ninja fan of course.
@@gamedone735even a lesser team ninja combat system is still better than 90% of games
Haha for a minute there I was thinking 'wait...what? I thought this was team ninja'
I’m having a blast with this game. It’s nowhere near Ubisoft level trash.
But it does have Ubisoft's empty open world
Its heavily built around the Ubisoft AC formula and that’s ok, im having tons of fun with it. Their Far Cry games are pretty boring and bland for sure but i still enjoy the AC games and we cant pretend like AC Odyssey wasn’t nominated for GOTY, Origins is one of their best games ever and despite the hate, Valhalla still had a pretty positive reception 🤷♂️
Agreed, havnt has a single issue with stuttering. I mostly chalk the dislikes up to people seeing the devs and assuming this was Nioh 3. It isn't, and never claimed to be.
Phenomenal review once again, Alex.

Assassins creed doesn’t belong in Japan. Japan has its own history.
