Great conversation! Our daughter uses a wheelchair, and there are definitely some positives about it. We get great parking spaces! 😊

I feel like a lot of access downsides could be improved if government made it law that places including old places need to be accessible. I get fed up of them using the fact it is a graded building as an excuse.
Would a table attached to your wheelchair help? I've seen others with some kind of plastic tray table thing that is attached to the chair.
Pro: independence for most part as couldn't do anything otherwise
Con: decent wheelchairs cost ££££ as well as adapted cars. Also hard to do the career I want in a wheelchair!

Hi Sarah, thank you so much for your comment. Yes, I completely agree with you.
I have a wheelchair tray table that I can attach to my wheelchair, but it's big and heavy so I mainly use it in the house or in the car especially during long car journeys.
Definitely, wheelchair absolutely give us the independence - I love that :-)

I've had people resent me more because of the support workers I have at uni. They assume they are helping me to get higher grades and is therefore unfair even though they just do the physical tasks as I'm too slow to do it myself. lol They don't realise the makes me more equal without help I'd take 10x + longer. 😂
My powerchair is from motability as I want a good chair seen as I can't drive anyway. I have to use public transport and some of the chairs are awful on public transport as they too big with the leg rests etc. Plus not entitled to one on NHS until I move but Derby has a shortage of wheelchair adapted properties lol As I only started needing a chair when I was mid 20's.
I was quoted £15 thousand for a private purchased decade old WAV 😐 My wheelchair takes all but about £30 of my mobility component of PIP
Free parking where I live (Derby) you only get 3 free hour street parking. Most actual car parks charge. Council run car parks only free if apply for a permit and show you get high rate DLA! I told them off saying most adults on PIP now. lol
