Kendall’s expression when you pulled out that roasted croissant was hilarious!! And when Babish came in and snatched the burned bottom layer like Gollum… I laughed out loud. Your team is so funny.
Kendall was clearly so proud of that bake.
The level fiendishness he just took the burnt part without any doubts.
Roasted? That's burnt man!!!
@@JishinimaTidehoshi put a little french on it, call it "brulee"
My favorite part was when I clicked this video and before the commercials were finished, I saw this comment. Thanks for saving me the trouble of watching it myself!
I have never seen Kendall so excited over a pastry in my life
She's speechless as she marveled your work in awe.
"Excited" is a bit of an overstatement things may seem
😊😊
Yeah lol she's impressed
please make Ja-Pan #2
English subtitles:
"judge speaking in Japanese"
"Tsukino speaking in Japanese"
"Kawachi speaking in Japanese"
Yakitate Japan is GENUINELY a great show, glad to see it get some much deserved recognition
Still to this day I love to death the Detective Conan reference randomly thrown into one of the character's reactions.
Just dont read the manga. It’s controversial on a certain chapter.
I read the manga when I was 15 or something, it’s been so long😂
What happened?
awful and rushed ending in anime
"Alex French guy cooking" actually explored what the perftet amount of pastry layers, that would be ideal for a Croissant. he made a batch of 12 different ones. honestly quite interesting.
Yeah, I remember that, too! At some point, the layers became so dense that it had more of a cake-like texture or something? Not bad, but not a croissant, anymore. I forgot what the ideal number of folds was.
Actually, wasn't for croissant, but puff pastry
This was my first thought as well! Clearly a lot of people took something from that video :D
@Nicolas Lanza Ferreira The principle of so many layers that at some point they are indistinguishable still applies. The only difference is that one contains yeast and sugar, the other doesn't. The yeast leads to the more chewy texture but doesn't really do anything for the layers.
"Impressed but horrified" is my guess at his reaction
Yewh and was quite a long time ago
Looking at that thumbnail, I was like, “You’re supposed to bake a croissant, not send it to the crematorium.”
Thought the same thing until the context in the video explained what's going on 😆
Best comment I've seen this year 😂
Yakitate Japan could be a source for dozens of episodes just by itself
SHOCKER, a show about cooking could have recipes in it?!
They don't actually have recipes despite being cooking series, it was meant to be parody of those other more "serious" cooking manga anyway so most of those breads aren't replicatable irl.
@@CrnaStrela Yakitate Japan! did actually have baking consultants for its production, and each episode had a segment showing their research. A lot of the ideas said people used are...deliberately bizarre or envelope pushing for flash and flare but the techniques and mechanics behind baking are legit.
@@gtf234 and to think that the author just created the series because he was waiting for materials for saijou no mei. The editor simply said he should make a bread series meanwhile
@@yunan9610 Takashi Hashiguchi didn't write Saijou no Meii, he only drew it. It was written by Kenzo Irie and published 6 years later
I’m so happy that this anime got a second life. I watched this when I was a preteen. It taught me loads of food science + Japanese culture. Even though it may all be entry level little tidbit knowledge, this anime made me explore more of both Japanese culture and cooking, well into adulthood.
Same here. I watched it in bits on RUclips around 2008.
Glad to see people appreciative of it still
Watching Alvin on Binging with Babish was soooo confusing for me. like a multiverse or something. Legit took me a moment to realize it actually possible for them to work together.
Watched this series twice over 10-15 years ago. I actually even applied to a baking college after seeing it.
Legend
Did you end up going?
At first I thought you meant you watched Binging with Babish twice over 10-15 years ago, and wondered how time had flown so quickly.
I would've too, if a baking college was available where i live
Really appreciate that Alvin both uses and shows that he is using the scraps. One of my biggest peeves is these food channels typically wasting so much food.
It's so refreshing to see on camera talent giving credit to the people behind the scenes like what happens on this channel. I don't think I've seen it on any other cooking show/channel (at least to this extent), but it should be done more often elsewhere! This is one of the many reasons I love watching this channel!
I've seen some crazy stuff from anime in my life. A giant mech piloted by a horse. A parasitic tunnel-man made entirely of feet. Joey Wheeler. But this? This right here takes the -cake- croissant.
would love to see more yakitate breads in here. loved the show growing up, still rewatch it from time to time to reminisce.
And hey there's also the 648 layer croissant from a bit later in the series
I think I've done that at school.
I forgot how many times we folded it.
But as long as the dough can hold together, you can go as far as you want.
@@Poodleinacan infinite layer
Hahaha..Yea!! By that samurai boy!
When I was watching the anime as a child, I was actually curious if it's realistic and how it would look like in the real world. Glad that I manage to see a recreation of the 324 layer (minus 10) croissant :D
The world cup and the fact that morocco is advancing to the semi finals brought me to here, Yakitate Japan!
Alvin-Sensei, you are a true croissant master! Oishisou!
Arigatou goizamisu! Your recipes and videos are wonderful
nice
Nobody liked it
@@hypehypehypehoura at least i like it
It's better than nothing
@@hypehypehypehoura where'd you get that info from? I gotta say that it wasn't a very reliable source, because i quite liked it.
Yakitate is the manga i used to read when kids and now i became baker because of it, i ask my ex pastry chef when i started working as baker that it is possible to make 300 layer of croissant, he said possible but is hard because if ur not careful the layer will be broken and hes not reccomended it so i never make it. But man you made it and makes me want to read the manga again and try your method. Thank you
i'm glad theres many other yakitate lovers here
Yakitate Japan was the anime that inspired me to pursue my culinary endeavors, Im just so happy it’s finally getting a spotlight it truly deserves! Well done and can’t wait to try this
YES IM SO HAPPY!!! I NEVER SEE YAKITATE JAPAN STUFF GETTING RECREATED 🥐🥐🥐🥐🥐
i love how gentle he is with his ingredients
I love seeing Alvin on this show, he is so likeable and fun to watch
Watching with Walter
@@bubby1595 first time i watched him i didnt exactly like him because i was expecting more babish like thing but that quickly changed now i really love seeing alvin's takes on all these anime foods etc
@@blondie9909 true
The sheer joy in kendalls face as she looked at the croissant was amazing
I have been slightly curious about how realistic that pastry is for around a decade. Thank you.
All of the recipes from the show should be more-or-less legit. Both manga and show had bakers on hand to consult with.
When I first watched Yakitate!! Japan, I binged all of the episodes in a week. Not long after that, I got into baking and made my first Melon bread. I tried doing the rice cooker bread but that didn't turn out great 😆
Ahaha same
SAMEEE I MADE MELON PAN TOO 😂😂 failed ofc lol
You need gauntlet of sun obviously, thats why you failed 😆
メロンパンはほんと美味しいですね!!?
You don't have the solar hands
Alvin sounded so much more confident in this one. I loved his jokes and his delivery has improved so much!
I'm so happy Yakitate!! is featured, it's one of the best anime comedies ever made, and severely underrated. Thank you!!
Yakitate japan was the 1st show that made cooking look fun, and it helped me appreciate cooking
I'm curious as to what Babish has cooking behind the scenes lately, but boy howdy I am loving all the screen time Alvin has been getting!
Kendall's roll was the most beautiful thing I've seen in my life
I love that the BCU is like the MCU, it's all connected. Kendall makes croissants on her show, and then gets to be Yoda to Alvin's Luke.
Best cooking anime of allllll time!!! Thanks for covering this Alvin!
But do you have solar hands????
this just unlocked a deep seated childhood memory of watching this anime so many years ago
I’m SHOCKED that you’re doing a Yakitate! Japan episode. So happy to see it!
Either a title in the thumbnail or another perspective, that honest and seriously looks like a piece
Alvin and Andrew: [eats an entire piece of pure carbon with a piece of bread stuck on it]
Also Alvin and Andrew: [surprise pikachu face]
Maybe like 10 years ago, I visited a friend in another state, and he showed me something that I had affectionately been calling "Bread Anime" because I forgot the actual name.
Today, my life is complete.
Thank you for bringing back my childhood anime. It brings back memories going home after school just to watch this anime.
“May English bread, German bread, at French bread. Pero bakit walang Japanese bread? Kung ganun walang ibang paraan kundi ang likhain ito. Ang kuwentong ito ay seryoso, talambuhay ng isang batang nagtataglay ng “Solar Hands,” si Azuma Kazuma! Siya ang lilikha ng “Ja-pan” para sa Japan at para sa mga Hapones, na maipagmamalaki sa buong mundo! Magagawa niya kaya ito?…”
Igirisu-pan Doitsu-pan Fransu-pan! All I need to know is that first part to know it's the intro for the show.
This reminds me of watching HEROtv in the old days.... *CRIES*
so nostalgic qwq
HERO tv days
Words that I can hear. Hahaha. Old time favorite anime 😁 golden comedy talaaga Yakitate
Finally! Someone made something from yakitate japan! Haha. I wanna see someone make that mango bread & that sea urchin bread.
The accessories and outfit is just top notch….. anyone finding a hand model, Alvin is the best choice.
I find it hilarious that, fifteen years after naming my account after him (due to all my normal choices being taken back when unique usernames were required), I can still instantly identify Takehito Koyasu's voice acting (showing up here at roughly 0:07).
KONO DIO DA!
his voice is IMMEDIATELY recognizable and I smile like a geek every time I hear him
ZA WARUDO!
I was genuinely not expecting Yakitate!! JAPAN to make an appearance on this channel. I hardly expect it to even appear on anime channel. I am so happily surprised, I love it so much
Man, thank you for trying this so i dont have to wreak havoc my mom’s kitchen
I love you Alvin!
DO A SPIRITED AWAY SPECIAL WITH THE WHOLE TEAM ALREADY!!!
I can see it now..
Sola, Andrew, Alvin, Kendall, all working together on a Studio Ghibli FEAST!!
oh..this was 2 years ago..i was learning how to make them, and by watching your videos, i succeeded, that was my first croissant..
so..having learned bread baking for these 2 years, and i was a fan of Yakitate! Japan when i was in highschool, i understand fully now what kawachi meant by high sugar content was in the dough..not at the outer layer, hence, the one burnt was the dough layers, in your test here, the one burnt was the sugar layer
2:34 Now that’s a relatable moment.
Now that Arthur has ended, please make Leaning Tower of Pisa Honeycake from, "Dad's Dessert Dilemma", episode
No
Arthur isn't an Anime.
@@candispong9233 yes. But babish has done cartoons.
@@Mitwadus I know. He has done a lot of them honestly. My point was this video is a part of the Anime with Alvin collection. Not the binging with babish. I didnt mean anything bad by it.
@@Fartucus “No”
I would looove if you would make Kawachi's super fluffy bouncy crab shaped bread!!!
I never expected to see this day that you would make this croissant from yakitate japan :D
Why is Chef Dio freaking out?
YES! THIS IS MY FAVORITE ANIME! Thank you for acknowledging that Alvin!
For anybody wondering what the snacks in the cupcake molds is called it's Kouign Amann. He says it, in the video, but I had to figure out the spelling lol
Thanks!
whoa.. my childhood unleashed! I appreciate Alvin giving light to such an old anime, it was so fun to watch this episode.
It's now official knowledge that Babish has "solar hands" ✋
I have seen so many babish vids, even have enjoyed them but not a single one has made me as happy as this one. This recipe brings back so many memories when I used to watch this anime! Thanks a ton for making video and thanks to the person who suggested this
Yakitate Japan ahhh my childhood
I remember watching the show a few years back and I really wanted to see someone do foods from that anime. I'm glad someone finally did it.
iam amazed, that someone remembered the show and tried to bake this IRL. thanks. just had the song all day on my head and was wondering when this happened,... until i discovered that you have done the impossible. thanks man, was a pleasure to watch.
On any day in March, make Bruno's Hot Dog from The Casagrandes episode, "Dial M for Mustard"
No
I like that these Alvin episodes of becoming more recurring.
Never thought anyone would give recognition to this niche anime
I absolutely love how much credit he gives Kendall, Alvin is always so sweet, and I love to see him here :]
This is my favourite anime of all time and I am so glad you’re doing this!
Alvin should try out some recipe from the "I Love Curry" manga. there are some great ones in there (they always have the recipe from the story at the back of the comic)
Glorious Nippon croissant crafted with 324 layers, only matched by glorious Nippon katana steel
Okay, now that there’s even a specifically anime-focused series, we NEED to get curry buns from Black Butler 😂
Sweet, just started rewatching yakitate over the weekend.
That said, you’re doing it wrong. They were very clear in the show that you have to work the dough with unusually warm hands, none of this chilling lark
That's fantastic, bc it's the opposite of what you're supposed to do for pastry (where cold hands reign supreme) 😂😂😂
I rly need to watch this show
I thought about trying this so many times!! Thank you!!
I love yakitake Japan! 🇯🇵 You got solar hands! Woohooh!
I always wondered how they get all those layers in croissants! I always thought they literally roll them in! X3
Alvin: many folds to go
Mathematicians: the topology of a croissant
On Tuesday before or after Easter, make Eggs Bunny-dect from Close Enough cartoon
No
Yakitate Japan is so underrated! I’m glad someone is finally shining light to it!
I feel like Alvin is everywhere and doing everything that involves food :D
I appreciate that someone rediscovered Yakitate Japan and people can find out about the Original Gangster that came before Shokugeki no Soma when it came to stripping, transforming or deifying people in reactions 😅
All you forgot was the Space Odyssey 😄
This was my first cooking anime and i love it glad you've done something from it
Fun fact: you should actually do fewer layers; making the layers too fine eliminates some of the flakiness. They become too indistinct.
I was hoping for this specific episode so this rules!! I loved Yakitate! Japan in middle school and I still think about the 324 layer croissant :-)
But there's still one thing I don't really understand... WHO THE HECK IS KUROWA-SAN??!
Never thought i would see someone attempt something from this show 🤣
depending on the dough you can usually let the mixer do the work, at some point after a few minutes the dough becomes super sticky and rips everything off the walls :D
It is my duty to suggest, like every year since last one, the donuts from Kamen Rider Wizard. I want to see how you make Haruto's favourite plain white sugar donuts interesting.
Growing up watching yakitate japan, really wanna see how all the bread done in real life😂😂😂
Please make The Fried Orb from The Owl House
The clinking together of random object like they're wine glasses is so insane
I actually have wondered if it was possible to make one of this for a loooong time. Thank you for going through the trouble!
Anyone else reminded of pulling clay to make handles for mugs when they're rolling the croissants?
Black Quaso
I've never seen or heard of anyone combining the butter with flour for the butter block. I wonder if it's a placebo effect and the real difference comes from beating the butter, incorporating just a little bit of air and thus making it easier to work with. It would be interesting to see a comparison.
What if you made Homer's Roast Pig from The Simpsons episode, "Lisa the Vegetarian"?
No
Time to double check our work and count the layers
What if you made Adorabat's Egg Omelet from Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart episode, "Head Chef"?
No
Ah so glad yakitate is getting recognized!
Please make the Ham-Egg-Edon from Green Eggs and Ham cartoon episode, "Goat"
Perfect for before or after Saint Patrick's Day
No
I love that Alvin does little snacks with the extras in his videos
thanks for being in my recommended so I can remember my 3 hour old croissants
this is the damascus of baking
kurowa-san?
One of my favourite manga/anime.
